    Attention Tattooed Lapbanders!

Darcy - I just checked out the tat you are getting - too cool. I haven't gotten one yet and think maybe after hitting goal I might get an ankle chain with a small cross dangling from it. My son has several - his first was the christian fish with Jesus on the inside (alot like your dove) and then the scripture Is. 40:10 - he was 16 when he got that. My daughter also has scripture on her side - from Psalms - she has about 4 and she even has one on the inside of her lower lip. LOL don't ask! Now my 16 y/o is aching to get one.

    Vanity...

definitely vanity for me - I'm in very good health (the past 6 months of pre-op tests have proven that!) but I have a LARGE family history of heart disease so first I quit smoking (almost 16 months now- yipee) and decided to do something about the weight - of course I had all the failed diets - in the course of 10 years of dieting I gained 60 -70 lbs so I really needed help. I had gotten so I HATED clothes shopping and felt like I was wearing the same thing over and over - just different colors. BUT the biggest thing that made me decide to do this was my face. Clothes can hide the fat and rolls but when I look at pictures of me 30 lbs thinner I didn't have the FAT face - and though it sounds conceited I've always been pretty and my looks have helped me in all aspects of life. I liked being pretty and even my daughter who's 20 said mom you are so pretty but when you lose this weight you will be beautiful again. I know my husband misses his beautiful wife (he loves me and would love me no matter how fat I got) but I just can't stand the sight of me - I cringe when I notice how the fat in my face has distorted my looks and I can't wait to have the surgery! My journel is titled "trying to find the real me" because I feel like a thin person trapped in a fat body. I was 103lbs when I got married, granted I was only 17 but even after my first baby(when I was 23) I still only wore a size 3 - after 3 babies I was an 8 - Needless to say I don't want to weigh 103 again, my goal is a size 8 - whatever weight that will be - if its 150 then great - if its 130 I'll know when I hit 150 LOL - so my future health is a major concern but vanity is the #1 reason.

    hi from MN

hi and welcome - I was born and raised in northern mn - Grand Rapids
  5. I'm a size 16 and I can't cross my legs comfortably. I can cross them but it feels like my muscles are straining just to sit like that. I was shocked to see this post because I had just said to my daughter the other night that I can't wait to be able to sit with my legs crossed and feel comfortable doing it. And I'm definetly an apple! go figure!

    Does it never end???

I meant to say - I think both are good. I feel like the chiro puts me in alignment and the dr gets me comfortable

    Does it never end???

ouch! sorry to hear about the back! I know how it feels - I went to Hershey park at Easter and 3 days later I couldn't stand up - yeah I love the roller coasters - so I go to the chiro and I thought I would DIE! I honestly didn't think my legs would hold me. I somehow made it home (in tears) called my doctor - pcp - and said on a scale of 1-10 pain I am at a 9 and ready to go to the ER. She called me in a script for muscle relaxers. Took one that night or maybe 2 - called off work - stayed IN the bed all the next day - sleeping with the muscle relaxers - did stretches and cried that evening - that night I CRAWLED to the bathroom - crying in pain - went back to bed - got up the next morning and I was fine. Bamm! just like that I was better. I have been back to the chiro once and have gotten a refill on the muscle relaxers once. Theres nothing wrong with drugs when you need them. I was actually thinking she would give me something for the pain when I called in - and was pretty upset when all I saw was muscle relaxers but I guess they know what they're doing. Hope you feel better and call your dr.

    almost there

I am feeling so impatient this past two weeks. For the past 6 months I did my doctors visits and now that all my tests are done and I'm just waiting on the insurance to give the go ahead I am so irritated by it all. I had my last doctor visit Oct. 11, called my surgeon on Oct. 18th and PA said all was good, just needed the doctor to double check it before he could send it into the insurance and would call if there was anything the doctor had questions on. That was almost 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard from them so it must have all been ok. So in my right mind I know that the insurance could take up to 4 to 6 weeks but in my unrealistic mind I'm hoping it could be today. I just want to get my surgery done. I wasn't so excited or impatient until I started reading lapbandtalk. Maybe I should quit reading it until I hear from my doctor again. I know this sounds silly but my nails need done and I don't want to pay to get them done when I know I have to take them off for the surgery. And then on the other hand it could be a month until I even hear from them! Maybe I'm feeling this way because my job is about done. I work at a golf course and today is our last day of the season. I will still go in to do my office work but I don't have much work to do so ... I read posts! Ok so my whole plan was to work this all out so that when my job was done for the season I'd get the banding and be on my way to losing weight. I absolutely hate being fat! I hate to look in the mirror and when I accidently see my reflection in a window I cringe. UPMC - call me!!

    Humana working on it...I think

that stinks! I'm playing the waiting game too. I went through the whole 6 month consult stuff, all the tests, sleep, heart, liver, pysch, breathing...and never missed an appt with pcp and now I wait to see if they will approve it. I have UPMC and I'm told they usually approve it after all the previous mentioned are in. I called my doc the other day and I was told they had sent everything in and it would be 1-4 weeks before we hear from insurance. They want you to have 6 months to make sure you are serious about the surgery. My pcp told me not to miss a month because they go by calendar months and if you miss one month you have to start all over. I wasn't feeling impatient or anxious until I got through my final visit and started this waiting. It hasn't really been that long - last visit was Oct. 11, I called surgeon Oct. 18th and they had all the info, Dr. was just going through it to make sure all was intact. I called yesterday, the 2nd and was told its all been sent in. I guess I'll wait until the end of next week and then call the insurance company. I'm praying for you - say one for me too.

    Sleep study?

I had the sleep study done and it sounds just about identical to yours except they never gave me a sleeping pill! After I was there she told me I could have taken one if I had wanted to. Geesh! Too late for that! But I did sleep - woke up once to go potty, and then a couple times to flop over. The next morning she says so how did you sleep? I said ok. She said how many times do you think you woke up? I said 3 or 4 - she said 27 times! LOL no wonder I never feel rested! The found I have restless leg syndrome but no sleep apnea - I've had my tonsils and adnoids out since I was 12 so I didn't think I would. They said that I could take something for the restless leg thing but I chose to just say no. LOL I take an otc sleeping pill when I really need to get a good nights sleep. When they ask me how I sleep I say I don't sleep - I've had insomnia since I was 18. Don't drink caffine after 2:00 and have even cut that down too. Oh yeah - when she came in she says ok lets get you untangled. LOL She said I am a very restless sleeper - I flop all night long - dh says just like a fish out of water.

    I'm ready

I feel ready now - I finally got fiscal reports done at work, everything is in order here so I can take time off any day now for the surgery. And I bought myself a pretty blue sweat suit.

    Just waiting

sorry to hear you're down - I hope all went well for you today. Why wouldn't they give you birth control before? What does that have to do with being banded? just wondering. Good luck - Steph

    feeling better

I called my surgeon today to see if they had heard from the insurance company, not yet but everything has been submitted and she said it normally takes 1 to 4 weeks to hear from them I was busy at work so didn't have time to stew over it. Went to prayer meeting tonight and talked with my friends. I got an encouraging word from Teresa - I said pray that it happens fast and she said maybe its not happening fast for a reason. Maybe theres things you need to deal with or take care of before you schedule it... maybe. Made me think all in God's time. This is going to happen I feel very at peace with having the surgery. Its good to have friends who are behind you during this.

    Decision Made

you sounded like me - I am also 44 and know that its just a matter of time before my weight really starts to affect my health. I quit smoking a year ago because with heart disease in our family I knew that being over weight and a smoker was a heart attack waiting to happen. I have made the decision, gotten past all my pre-op tests and consults and just waiting to hear the ok from insurance co. and get my date. Best of luck to you and Steph (btw.. what a great name! lol )
