Anyone Have Their Band Replaced With Another Band?

I didn't lose a tone of weight. Thsi kind of surgery screws up your body enough where you kind of come to a halt. I have lost weight but not like when I first had the band. It really sucks the second time around because you know what you have to go through. Ignorance is bliss the first time around. Though I feel tons better since the surgery it has been a hard recovery this time around. -

I was at my goal weight pre op so weight loss hasn't been an .issue. I have had to do the diet progression as before and that sucks. I have no fluid in my band and go back in Sept to make sure all is healed and I can start getting adjustments again. -
Anyone Have Their Band Replaced With Another Band?
ICUnurserachel replied to Gigi_Girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Uh no its not. Well my surgery wasn't just having the second band put in. It turned into 4 hrs of surgery to fix a hiatal hernia, tons of scar tissue and remove part of my stomach. I had this done July 11th and have never been in so much pain and discomfort. All these were caused by the first band and its complications secondary to it being messed up. I had to spend 2 days in the hospital unable to eat or drink until the swelling went down enough to wear I could pass the GI study. I will never go through this again. -

It is ok to eat out. Having the band teaches you moderation. I have learned in 2 /12 yrs that eating out is not a bad thing. I usually order something not fried and semi healthy. Eat 1/4 to 1/2 of it depending on the portion they give and take the rest home and get 2 more meals out of it. Having the band is about balance, not giving up everything. Sometimes I just order an appetizer and that is enough to satisy me and I am not the only one still eating while everyone else is done. -
Tips On Staying "satisfied" Longer..
ICUnurserachel replied to nipper75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As a general rule 4oz protein and 2 oz veggie at each meal is a good start. eat some dense proteins when you feel hungry between meals, like cottage cheest, greek yogurt, protein bar etc. Make an appt with your nutrionist and they are very helpful and knowledgeable in giving you help. -
Lap Band Take 2, Fail Surgery #4 Success!!!! Now To Decide Whats Next!

No they replaced my band. Since I had success with the band insurance wouldn't cover a sleeve because I am not considered a weight loss patient anymore according to insurance. The insurance covered and approved a revision for medical reasons due to the slip. -
I just had my band revised 2 weeks ago after a slip in May. I went through 8 weeks of hell from the pain and reflux. I ended up with 4hrs of surgery , hiatal hernia repair, pouch dilitation repair, tons of scar tissue and replacement of the band. I had to wait 4 weeks to have the surgery so the swelling could go down. I had to do a month of steriods and prilosec. My surgeon was very proactive and told me all along the way the process would be. This has been the most miserable I have ever been in my life and wouldn't do it again. I am doing better now but it has been hell. I would encourage you to seek a second opinion if you feel your surgeon isn't being proactive. Band slips have a process you have to go through to get prepared for surgery if needed. The reality is only 25% of bands return to normal postition after a slip. The event that caused the slip, the swelling all cause complications that I never imagined and had to have surgery.

I would suggest meeting with the nutritionist again. This helped me greatly and helped with my success.

Lap Band Take 2, Fail Surgery #4 Success!!!! Now To Decide Whats Next!
ICUnurserachel replied to emialiaubri's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just recently had to have my band revised. After a the band slip it caused a hiatal hernia and ppouch dilitation along with tons of scar tissue. What was supposed to be a 1 1/2 hour surgery turned in 4 hrs and a couple days in the hospital. I never want to go through this again and wouldn't. The pain and misery is enough to tell me if this is a fail I am not going this another round. -
Also you could have stretched your pouch. I would eat mushie or liquids for 48hrs and if not better or not able to eat at all then call doc.
-
A slip can happen at any point post surgery from 1 week to years out. The only symptom I had was bad reflux. I mean bad reflux that woke me up. I could eat more then I could before also.
