    6 month mark

I recently had my 6 month anniversary and I am 47lbs down. I started at a size 26 and now am a size 18 which is actually about too big. It is very surreal to me how far I have come. I have definitely worked hard at it. I look forward to 47 more pounds to be lost in the next year. I have had my ups and downs but am happy I did this. I am off all meds now and only take multivitamins and allergy meds. It feels good to be healthy again!

    A question for women

I have a question for women that are still menstruating. Do you find it harder to eat or have more issues getting food down during your period? I thought I read somewhere that the fluid retention and bloating can cause some issues.
  3. The past few weeks I haven't lost lbs but have lost inches. Why is it I fixate on the number and not my loss of inches. My doc told me not to weigh myself but of course I did and am now mad. I am down 5 sizes but seem to still be focused on the weight. How do some of you not let the number rule your life?

    Doctor is treading water?

My doctor does them in his office and has a fluro machine to do fills. A doctor's office can have the fluro machines and it doesn't have to be done in a hospital to have these fluro/xray machines.

    Doctor is treading water?

The lapband plan is a two year weight loss goal plan. some weeks you might not lose anything and the next week 2lbs. It is intended to be 1-3lbs a week, no more. Also, is your doctor using fluro to do the fills or just doing blind fills? The fill doesn't take long and I have never felt it was painful. Be patient, you are doing great!

    Post-op Cheaters

I was always scared to eat what was not on my post op progression diet. I might have ate an extra bit of Jello, yougurt etc but I couldn't even fathom eating a sandwich. I am 6mos post op and cannot eat bread at all. I hope you learned why the diet is a progressive one and I would call your doc to see if you need to be seen. I would go back to mushies and liquids for now if I were you. I hope you feel better and take it one week at a time!
  7. Bump! I was curious if anyone lately knew how she was doing. I cannot find any recent info.

    To the lost email sender

I received a message the other day asking me about what my nutritionist had recommended the other day and dammit if the message has mysteriously disappeared. Of course I cannot remember their username either. So to whomever that was I will write it here in the hope they will read it. I was having trouble with feeling full and thought I needed a fill. Turns out I didn't. I went to visit my nutritionist and she recommended I eat 4oz dense protein(meat) at each meal and 3 oz veggies. I admit I wasn't eating a whole lot of dense foods. I tried this and it has helped. My weight loss has resumed.
  9. I don't think the weight should play into it as much as BMI and other co-morbidities. I don't think a number should be placed on someone wanting to improve their health.

    Water question?

I was told 15-20min before and 30-45 after. The before isn't as important as the after as I learned the hard way. I drank a sip or two immediately after I ate and I had projectile liquid coming out of my body. No fun!

    Coke drinking poll

My doc says no carbonation at all. I was never a big soda drinker so it wasn't a big deal for me to give it up.

    Help

I had a BMI of 42 and hypertension. It too 6 mos and 2 denials to get through the approval process. I see you are from NC. Who is your doc?

    9 months banded........not happy

"OK, so in all honesty.. it's been months since I have been on here. I have been through SOOOOO much in my life.. not making excuses.. but I am now ready to get moving on this again. I had my surgery 11/09 - i am down just about 25 lbs.. i REALLY was expecting a lot more of a loss.. but again, i didn't put all 100% of myself into it. what I am shocked by is, as of right now i have 5 CC's in my band. i had .5 removed because i was getting stuck way too often. So even with 5cc's i still get stuck not AS bad though. I have cut out just about 80% of carbs and breads than I used to eat. mainly because i just cannot get them down.. i REALLY do eat A LOT less than I used to.. and although i am not eating strictly salads, and veggies.. nor exercising as much .. i would think i should be down a lot more by now... what is frustrating is this.. the PA who does the fills in my surgeons office, is very judgmental.. she does come down hard on us.. and is very hesitant on giving fills.. now i am speaking more for my sister because I lost my insurance and haven't been there for a few mths. my sister is at 6cc's and can still eat a huge plate of food.. no problem. there is something wrong with that.. YES. she really shouldn't be eating a huge plate of food.. but the purpose of the band is to help us eat less and feel full quicker right? so being that this is a tool.. why isn't it working?.. and yes, i am expecting a bunch of replies about how we need to work at the weight loss as well.. blah blah i heard and know it all.. how is it that some people lose massive amount of weight with little effort.. and some need to feel like they are on a diet their whole lives? is it the Dr? i dont get it.. and it's very frustrating. some days i feel like i just want this thing out of me. it causes more aggrivation than anything. the pain of eating is getting old now.. and yes, i have slowed down and chewed my food well. " This is a post you did a while ago. People gave you very good advice then and seems you still want to blame others instead taking some responsibility here. Having the band is not an easy way out and yes it is a diet forever. It is a tool help you lose weight and you have to put in the effort. Depends on what you are eating whether you will feel full with a certain amount. I had this issue and went back to the nutrionist. I now eat denser foods that make me feel full. More proteins is the key. Softer consistency food is not. The problem may not be with your band but your diet. See a nutritionist and get back on track. Sorry to be blunt and harsh but lets be honest here. I do wish you luck and success.

    Annoyed at my husband

Just remind them they are not eating the "good stuff" as you said. What they are eating is far more harmful to their bodies than allot of things.

    A question

Occasionally I get a pulled muscle pain under my left rib or left side. It is not painful just uncomfortable. It comes and goes and is very sporatic. I have asked my doc about it and he has said it is just from the surgery itself. I was banded in March 2010. Anyone else have this?

Is there something wrong with me?

I actually didn't have much pain either after surgery. I had more issues with the clear liquids. I had no energy from just jello and broth but other than that I felt pretty good.

    Hair Loss?

You will notice more hair in the shower from now on. This is normal. Make sure you are taking your multivitamins and getting all your protein in. Don't worry, you won't go bald. If you starting going bald or getting bald spots you need to see your doc asap! Your hair will thin some because of the surgery.

    I think it is time

I have been banded since March 2010 and have had 2 fills. Until now I have felt like I was where I needed to be. I feel like I need a bit more to feel full and weight loss has slowed. I have a appt Sept 23rd, should I wait until then or call for a sooner appt? Also, how often do some of you need adjustments?

    Pressure from Others

I get tired of people asking me "How much more weight have you lost?". So my answer is that I don't know because I only weigh myself every 2 weeks, which is true. I am sure most people just are curious but it gets tiresome to keep answering that. I always have to tell them the lapband is not like bypass. It is gradual 1-2lbs a week.

    Anyone Else do this?

If you are doing it all the time, yes it is harmful. Are you eating slow, small bites. Taking 20-30 minutes to eat? What are you eating? Also this is a sign that you are too tight. Being too tight is harmful too. Best bet go see your doctor.

What to do with too-big clothes?

I just gave a bunch of clothes to a local mission. By donating to a charity I helped some people and I get a tax credit too!

    My rant for the day

Why is it some people think that once they get the band that they can eat whatever they want and it will lose the weight for them? Did these people not pay attention during the eval process or better yet how the hell did they get through the eval process? It was not an easy decision for me to decide to do this and I do not take it lightly. I knew I would have to change everything about my eating once I had this band placed. I am not perfect but I sure as hell don't expect it to lose the weight for me. It is a tool people! You have to make healthy food choices and exercise!
