After having two kids then completing five years and ten months of active duty service, I steady gained nearly eighty pounds which put at the low end of BMI. Having other health issues, I initially qualified and was approved by my health insurance to have the gastric bypass. However, my first surgeon would not perform that surgery but would only perform the gastric sleeve, but my insurance, at the time, considered it experimental and would not approve the procedure.

This lead me to the surgeon that would eventually perform my weight loss surgery nearly two years after my journey began. The surgeon and I decided that the lap band would be the best procedure for me considering my other health issues. I am currently two years post op and I am loving where I am at but it is a constant struggle. Since my operation, I have suffered from constant acid reflux and night so I have yet to find my "green zone". I have constantly gone from fill and unfills. My doc wants to consider another unfill next month after the holidays.

This will lead to weight gain and another New Year's resolution to lose more weight and exercise more. I will admit that the exercise portion has not been on my radar in 2013. It seems that everytime I start my regiment I get sick and occasionally end up in the hospital for observation (this relates to my health issues). I do not want this to hold me back from incorporating exercise back into my routine in 2014 with hopes of losing more weight.

My goal is to lose another 26 pounds which is not my surgeons goal. Currently, I am a successful lap bander when it comes to the amount of excess body fat I have lost. I am looking for someone to buddy with in the new year to motivate each other.
