This too shall pass. You have given yourself a great gift - a healthier you. Give it some time and keep up the good work.

Congratulations to you! I wish you the best of luck. You have a hard road ahead, but so many have been there and are doing great. You will too.

I haven't had my band done yet, but I have had gallbladder surgery and I had a lot of shoulder and upper back pain. The only think I found that helped was a lot of walking to break up the gas. Happy Mother's Day and I hope you feel better soon.

As my surgery date nears, things are starting to come quickly. I have my dietician appointment set up for this coming Friday AM. Then I have a support group on the Friday PM. I have a class on Monday the 17th and my surgeon will see me on the 25th. I am really getting excited now. I've been going to the gym for 3 weeks now and I am so amazing that I didn't think I could walk or peddle or push or pull, but I am doing it all and I am so proud of myself. For all of us taking this journey I wish us all well. It is not going to be an easy trip, but I want to take the ride. :cursing:

HELP ME! I'm on my pre op diet and making bad choices.
Bklynike replied to Quinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are cheating on your pre-op diet, what are you going to do once you have the surgery? Perhaps you aren't truly ready, in mind and heart, for the surgery. You should absolutely not eat anything off the prescribed diet plan without first speaking with your doctor or dietician You are making bad choices - this is a lifestyle change, not a change when you are in the mood. -
Congrats to you on a great job done and I accept your challenge! My surgery date is 6/21 and I will be reporting from time to time on my progress. Keep up the amazing job you are doing. And to everyone else on this board who is considering weight loss surgery, who had had weight loss surgery or who is scheduled for weight loss surgery in the up-coming months, best of luck to us all. My dreams of a healthier life for us all will always be in the forefront of my thoughts.

I was actually able to get out of bed this morning after my first workout at the gym last night without as much discomfort as I thought I would have. I know if I keep up the hard work, my surgeon will be very happy with me come lab band day. I will go back tomorrow night and perhaps I will be able to walk the treadmill for more than 15 minutes. Keep your fingers crossed.

preo op requirements
Bklynike replied to karmaandkismet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance company will not pay for any part of the surgery - there is an exclusion clause, so consider yourself lucky you only have to wait 3 months before sending in the paperwork. Perhaps your doc can manipulate the dates since he is aware of your situation and if you have been under his care for any part of the diet... Good luck. -
Sounds like it is working for you. When did you have the surgery? Mine is on June 21st and I am so excited that I am actually vibrating! Was it the best thing you ever did?

Best of luck. We all have to start somewhere.

First night at the gym - an hour and a half. Felt good to be working out, slowly, but boy am I sore already. I am afraid of what I will be like tomorrow. My surgeon is very happy I will have 2 months of exercise under my belt before my surgery. No one said losing weight was going to be easy.

Meg, you go girl! 40 lbs since March is so impressive. I wish you continued success.

I have been a yo-yo dieter for years. I can lose some and then gain it back and more. Each time I say this diet or that diet will be different, and for a while it is. I know I can't do it alone. I know as much as I try, it isn't going to work. My insurance company is not going to pay 1 cent towards my surgery, so it is up to me to save my own life. $13,400 is very difficult, but on June 21st I will be lying asleep on a table being banded. Since the 21st is actually my birthday, it will be my re-birthday. Go change your life and make living every day special and better than the day before for yourself and your family.
-
People are very afraid of change. I bet you always put your family first and now you are actually taking control of yourself, putting yourself first and they are scared. Having surgery to help us lose weight is anything but the easy way out. We will have to work very hard not to slip back into old habits. If the people who were eating cake in front of you aren't supportive, find other people who will be. This is a huge step - take it and don't look back. My banding will be on June 21st, so I will be thinking about you on your magical day. Feel better and let us know how you are doing.

I am so impressed by your attitude. I am excited about being a June newbie and am also reading everything, including people's blogs here at this site. I start my first day at the gym tomorrow night and I am really excited about this part of my life. I can only hope to follow in your footsteps and the many others who have come before me. I have made only one promise to myself and that is to try my best everyday to accomplish my weight loss goals and get as healthy as I can. Keep up your good work - bklynike

I just got the prescription orders from my surgeon's office for my blood work on June 3rd and my PCP's release for my surgery on June 8th. I will have to take some classes called Journey 1 and 2. Has anyone taken these classes? Since I am self-pay, I do not need a psych eval, but will meet with a nutritionist. I am not a veggie person, so I am a little nervous about what they will say I have to eat post-surgery. Any suggestions from any of you who are veggie-phobes like me?

Surgical and non-surgical treatment of morbid obesity is not a covered benefit?
Bklynike commented on Joy Joy's blog entry in Joy Joy's Journal
I was supposed to have gastric bypass 2 years ago. The day before I met the surgeon his office called to say my insurance company (Aetna) had an exclusion to anything to do with obesity surgery or treatment. I went so far as to write to the Insurance Commissioner of Florida because of all of my co-morbidities. There was nothing that could be done. So I called a lawyer - same answer. So I cancelled my plans and started saving. We have since changed insurance at work and my new company also has the exclusion. Apparently, if the place you work will opt for a waiver, you will be covered. But, most companies will not pay for it because of the insurance costs involved. I will be banded on June 21st as a self-pay - $13,400.00. My life is work any amount of money, so I am getting ready. My self-payment will cover 2 years of free fills and doctor visits. I understand that a fill could cost as much as $175.00, but you must find a way to keep up with it. Good luck. -
Only 8 days until your life will completely change - for the better. I am excited for you and happy that you have been able to stay the course. I have a while to go, 6/21, but you are right when you say this is not easy. You hang in there and do what you need to do. I can't imagine anyone going through all of this and then cheating. You would only be cheating yourself. Good luck.

June anyone!?!?!??
Bklynike replied to YoungBlackAndBanded's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
June 21st - my birthday and re-birthday all rolled into one. I was supposed to have it done on December 21st, but I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to take care of that first. Can't wait, though. Good luck to you. -
You are doing amazing well. Who cares what these people say or think? You are changing yourself for your, your family and your good health. If these people are judgemental and not sincere, why should you care what they think? Keep up the good work. I don't even know you and yet I am very proud of you.
