  1. Sounds like you are doing really well, congrats. I was banded on 6/21 and have lost 10.2 lbs since. I am on mushy/pureed foods because the liquid diet was not cutting it for me. I feel really good and hope I can continue to do as well as you appear to be doing.

  2. I am so glad to hear you are doing better. It isn't easy, but we are all in this together. The gym is the best! I love the treadmill on the random setting - having the floor go up and down. It is fun. I would love try Zumba. My gym offers the classes - I'll have to check the schedule. Have a great 4th.

    It's time for Vay-cay-shun!

You go girl. How wonderful. Every inch is a success so toot, toot, toot. Have a great vacation. Can't wait to see what Wed brings. I am now going to start measuring myself!

    Horray!

No more soup! I just couldn't take one more spoonful. As much as I trust my doctor and want to follow his instructions, I just had to take the situation into my own hands and last night my husband pureed tuna fish w/lite mayo and I ate about 3 or 4 oz. I felt so good afterwards - didn't run to the bathroom for a change. So, this morning I scrambled 2 eggs and cooked them in Smart Balance and kept that down. Didn't feel hungry until lunch time today. At which time I had chicken salad. I feel so good - not overly stuffed, but not sick to my stomach from the soup. As of today, I have lost 10.2lbs. I am so excited. I am working out at the gym and loving that. My visit to the surgeon is on Tues. I am looking forward to seeing him and hearing what he has to say. To all of my friends here, keep up the good work and let's all get thinner together.

I just got my day for surgery

You are making a great choice - for yourself and your family. You lose the weight and live longer and healthier. That is it in a nutshell. You may have a problem lifting the baby (congrats on the birth), but it will be a short time. Walking will help, but if you can join a gym and start working out now, the recovery will be quicker. good luck to you and keep posting to let us know how you are doing.

    Surgery yesterday. Feel pretty sore.

I am sorry to hear you are not doing well. the pain in your shoulder and/or neck is from gas. They put so much gas into your stomach to help them make room for the surgery that it has no where to go. You must walk, walk, walk. It is the only thing that will help. Some people say GasX works, but I didn't need it. I walked back and forth in my condo and it passed quickly. I had my surgery on the 21st, my birthday. I am doing very well. I really didn't have much pain, but I think it is becuase I started working out at the gym 2 months before my surgery. If you hurt everytime you drink, you may need to change to warm drinks. Call your doctor and fill him in. Good luck.

    Support Issues

Does your doctor offer support group meetings? If so, you should go. If not and you have health insurance, they will probably pay for you to visit a nutritionist. There are great tips on line. Since you have had a fill, you probably get full after 3 or 4 ounces of food. Make sure you chew really well and drink your water. Low fat, high protein is the way to go. Avoid starch, if at all possible. Exercise is very important, as well. If your doctor cannot help you, you need another doctor. Have you talked to your primary?
  8. Well, how are you feeling? Make yourself get up and walk around, even if it is just around your home. I have a small condo, so I walked around my dining table and back and forth from the front door to the back sliding glass doors.

I just noticed your date of birth, which makes you about 2 months older than my son! My goodness I am old, but getting thinner!

  9. How did your surgery go? Please remember to do as much walking as you can, sip, sip, sip and rest. You might want to try GasX - I didn't need it, but a lot of my other bandster buddies say it worked really well. Please let me know how you are doing. This was the greatest gift we could have given ourselves. Enjoy it, embrase it and live a long, healthy life.

    I can't believe it!

Hi, all. I have to say I am doing really well since my surgery. I have had no problems getting my proteins or food down and keeping it down, although I have not had the 70-80 grams or protein they want me to have, but the doctor's office said that was normal in the beginning. I have been drinking my water. The pain is barely noticable anymore, even when turning over in bed. Today was my first day back to the gym since 6/18, with my surgery on 6/21. I thought I might last on the treadmill about a 1/4 mile, but did 1.35 miles and then was on the Sci-fit for 15 minutes. I felt really great. But the best part is that when I got on the scale I learned I had lost 7lbs 4 oz since my last visit. How amazing is that? I am totally in shock, really. My husband said I looked as if I had lost a lot, but I can't really see it. But now I believe him. I am returning to work tomorrow, wish I could win the lottery and never go back, but living in the real world...I sit at a desk most of the day so there will be no strain other than the fact that I am a Customer Service Manager and get stressed enough! Friday I start on the pureed and mushy - OMG I will get to hold a real fork and chew something other than a teeny-tiny piece of chicken from the cream of chicken soup. Enjoy your Sunday to all and I'll check back again soon. Thanks for all of your support and encouragement. This is the greatest place!!!!
  11. How's your journey going? Today is my 6th day after surgery and have already lost 7lbs 4oz. I can't believe it. I will be on pureed foods on Friday - finally! I hope I remember how to use a fork. I see my surgeon on Tues. I can't wait to see where this journey leads me.

  12. Well, it has been 6 days since my surgery on the 21st. I feel wonderful. I was finally up to going to the gym today and did great. I walked 1.35 miles and did some upper body workout. When I stepped on the scale, the last time was the 18th, I almost fell over becuase I have lost 7 lbs 4 oz. I am just loving this band. First doctor's visit is coming on Tues. I am excited to see when he will want to do a fill. I start Mushy foods on Friday. I can't wait. How are you doing, your lucky dog?

  13. Today was my first day back to the gym and I weighed myself. I almost fell off the scale when I saw a 7lb 4oz weight loss. Can you believe it? I know it will slow down and I will need a fill, but this is the biggest loss I ever had in a 10 day period. I go to the surgeon on Tues. for my first checkup. I know I am doing great - I feel wonderful. How did your fill work out for you?

  14. Maggs, just wanted to let you know I am loving this lap-band. I was at the gym today and have lost 7lbs 4oz in 10 days. My last weight was taken on 6/18, banded 6/21 and today my heart nearly leapt out of my chest with the loss. How is your moving coming along?

  15. Cris, how are you doing? I was back to the gym today and lost 7lbs 4oz since 6/18. I can't believe it. I feel great and can't wait for mushy on Friday.

    Am I too old?

    Bagel Thins

Your surgeon okayed a bread product? My doctor says no bread, pasta, potatoes for a very long time and then only in moderation, if ever. Good luck in your weight loss.

These will be a few of my favorite things...

Getting off all of my medications for the horrible co-morbidities the weight has given me, shopping in a regular store - not the Avenue or Lane Bryant, Looking and feeling better, with or without clothes. Not being looked at like a lazy, fat person anymore. These will be some of my favorite things.
  20. Hi, Miami - I'm in North Miami. I was banded on June 21st, just 6 days ago. I am feeling really well. I have lost 7lbs 4oz since the 18th. How are you doing? Who banded you? I used Hollywood Bariatrics, Dr. Thomas Bass. Keep in touch.

24 hours before the surgery and I gained weight

This surgery is only a tool to help you lose the weight. But you are the one who has got to do the work. When you cheat, you are only cheating yourself and you will only make yourself feel worse. You can do this, but you have to really want it. Your future depends on it. I am 6 days post-op and happier than I have been in years and lost 7lbs 4 oz this week alone. You can do it. Don't give up, just make up your mind to listen to your heart and what you want is a healthier, happier future. Go for it.

Did anyone cry the first week??

I was banded on my birthday, 6/21/10 and am calling it my rebirth. I have not been this happy in years. The crying is just your hormones or perhaps some nerves. I feel great and have already lost 7lbs 4oz since the 18th. Just look ahead - feeling better, losing weight, having more confidence. Hold your head up high girlfriend, you just gave yourself a precious gift. Cry tears of happiness because you are a lucky person. Keep us posted - it will get better.
  23. You will do great. Keep walking and sipping your water to break of the gas after the surgery. Watch your diet and enjoy your journey. I am happier than I have been in years. This will be a great year for you so enjoy and keep us posted as to how your journey is going for you.

  24. I wish you the best of luck tomorrow. Monday after my surger I was sore, mostly in the incision by the port through Tues. The gas was really the worst part, so walk, walk, walk and if you have a significant other ask them to massage the area that hurts. I walked back and forth in my condo, sipped my water and rested the first 2 days. It is wonderful. Good luck and keep in touch.

  25. Thanks for your reply to my blog. I am going to check out the website you suggested for food recipes. My husband does most of the cooking, but I will forward him stuff I would love for him to try.

I returned to the gym today. My last visit was on the 18th, just before my surgery. Today I weighed myself and to my great happiness and surprise I found I lost 7lb 4 oz. OMG. Thanks again.
