Dr's. Osuna and Ortega
HatheryOnHerWay replied to citizenwill's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Out of curiosity, where did you see/hear that they work with Dr. Rod? On his webpage the other members of the surgical team are listed as Dr. Aramburo and Dr. Chavarin. -
Piercings/Jewelry?
HatheryOnHerWay replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder if that's the same across the board no matter if you're in US or Mexico? I would think if a plastic retainer was put in it wouldn't bother any monitoring or possible electro-shock equipment...guess that'd be a questionf or the surgeon beforehand :thumbup1: -
Has anyone gotten the ?Super Sleevectomy? (TGVP) with Dr. Jose Rodriguez?
HatheryOnHerWay replied to mellifrits's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Thanks for the great reply, Tiffykins! I read in one of the articles about the plication than by the stomach being "folded" it more or less restricts the Ghrelin from being released...but that doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me as tissue is somewhat porous so I would assume the hormone could still find ways of seeping out. I like the idea of a surgery that could be done via endoscopy, but it seems to me I would need lots more research before I chose this as a viable option! -

I was thinking it would be best to put plastic retainers in...sounds like that is the concensus! -

I just found this article about gastric plication which seems very interesting. Would love thoughts on it :crying: Bariatric Times Reports on Latest Gastric Sleeve Plication Clinical Trial - Journal - U.S. News Health Community - Inspire -

So do you know if the Gastric Imbrication is as effective as the VSG? Seems to me that the Imbrication method is less invasive (I believe they do it through the mouth rather than through lathroscopic incisions.) I'd love to hear more if anyone knows. -
Two Weeks Since Surgery
HatheryOnHerWay replied to txrdnk903's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maybe you should just tuck the scale away for a while and pay attention to the way your body feels...I think if you focus less on the scale, you'll be able to start seeing the little changes taking place that you might be overlooking :crying: -
Had Surgery on 5/3/2010
HatheryOnHerWay replied to 1SunMoney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I never understand how people can just walk so far right off the bat...I haven't had surgery yet, and I'm at 280 lbs. My legs freakin' KILL me after about a block; it's like they're on fire, even if I stretch. -
Am I the only one that thought of Dr. Nick on the Simpsons when I saw that post title? haha

I decided to try out some Greek Yogurt since I always see people talking about it on here. I compared the nutritional content to that of the "normal" yogurt I eat (Stonyfield) and am confused...the Protein content is exactly the same. The only difference I can see (besides the consistency) is that the Greek Yogurt has WAY more saturated fat and therefore calories. What is the advantage of eating Greek Yogurt? Thanks!

What's the deal with Greek Yogurt?

Where did you have your surgery done? -
Has this 5-month diet been supervised? Many insurance companies that cover WLS make you have 6 months of documented weight-loss attempts before they'll cover the surgery.

How much is VSG with Dr. Aceves? I emailed the address on his webpage a while back but never received any reply. -
Having second thoughts

I LOVE this post. I think everything you said is exactly spot on! I can't wait to hear how your surgery goes -
Okay, I have a question...when I went to the nutritionist a few years back, she said I was "pre-diabetic" (that my insulin gets out of whack from me being obese.) Basically what happens is if I don't eat every few hours, I start to get this queasy, dizzy, lightheaded yet SUPER hungry feeling where I feel as though I need to eat everything in the room in order to get my blood sugar back to normal. It's like a reactive hypoglycemia thing, I guess. My question is, after the VSG surgery where you can only drink liquid at first, wouldn't that reactive hypoglycemia reaction go nutso from not getting any food in? I know it would eventually go back to normal, but I just wonder if the first few weeks wouldn't be hellish. Just wondering if anyone else has/had this pre-diabetes thing and how the VSG effected it. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies! I definitely don't think that would work for me. I'd much rather give myself credit for my accomplishments than a higher power. -

I went to the website for overeaters anonymous and read their 12 step plan. There was a lot of talk about God and realizing that a higher power can help us...that doesn't work for me. Does that tend to be the way these meetings go? -
In Kind of a Funny Place on the Journey...
HatheryOnHerWay replied to Keys Pirate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I worry I'll go through this when I finally get surgery, too. Even now when I try to think about how my life would with VSG and eating tiny portions, I almost get this surge of resentment that I wouldn't be able to eat as much as I want to until I'm stuffed. I don't know what that's about--I'm guess it's my mental dependence on food, and something I will likely have a hard time overcoming. Am I the only one who felt that resentment, almost anger, about not being able to eat as much? -
