You could try thinning down your protein shakes a little more. I find they settle better with the new tummy when they're thinner. Don't taste as good, but small price to pay for no tummy ache

Severe headaches post-op?
HatheryOnHerWay replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ditto on the making sure she's getting all her water in! -
That makes sense! Sounds like your surgeon encourages more of the tiny meals through the day approach rather than the 3 "meals" approach. It's crazy how different everyone's plans are!

Bent the camera
HatheryOnHerWay replied to guidosleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a video of my procedure. My hubby watched it and based on the "Oh my god, Oh my god" I kept hearing from him, I do not intend to watch it. haha -
3 weeks out eating about 1200 cal/day
HatheryOnHerWay replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeve or no sleeve, weight loss is about calorie intake and energy expenditure. So if you burn enough calories to create a negative balance at the end of the day, you'll lose weight. Truthfully though, most American women don't burn enough calories to justify 1200 calories. But if you're a truly active person and track your calories vs. exercise, I see no reason why you couldn't eat 1200 calories daily. Like you said...you'll probably just lose more slowly. -
I'm pretty sure most people eat more than 3 oz once they have the sleeve and are healed. Did you just mean during the healing phase?

Waffling, Waffling, Waffling
HatheryOnHerWay replied to CharmingTortoise's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When my husband and I first discussed (*ahem* argued) about me getting the surgery, he was angry that I had lost 100 lbs on my own, then put it all back on. He thought I "quit" on that diet. What I tried to explain to him is that LOSING weight isn't my problem. I know I can lose weight. What I can't seem to do on my own is keep it OFF! That's where I need help. That's where I can't do it on my own. That's why I need something that will support modest eating for life. -
Thanks Lynda! I couldn't keep anything down for the first few days AT ALL, but then it seems like my body just kind of decided to go with the flow. My incisions don't hurt and my tummy feels more or less normal (other than holding less!) I'm hoping that I'm just healing quickly It took me a whole work day to finish a Protein drink today, so it's not as though I'm eating anyone out of house and home. haha

Are you going to the hospital alone?
HatheryOnHerWay replied to FindingElise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep seeing this talk about bra and panties, but I'm at a week now and still not wearing a bra. It lays RIGHT where my one incision is -
I'll be a week out tomorrow. I can do about 4 oz. of soup for a meal. Granted it takes me about 1/2 hour, but still
-
When you say you can only have 2 oz, do you mean that's all you are ABLE to eat or that's all you're supposed to eat? Because I can already have way more than 2 oz of Soup in one sitting...

My surgery date is in the morning! Question!
HatheryOnHerWay replied to ravenwatt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kept taking the pill. If I'm not mistaken, the big risk with the pill is blood clots. So maybe if you're lower risk to begin with, it doesn't matter? Not sure. -
Why do some folks have drains and others don't?

I just had my sleeve on Wednesday. For the first few days after, I could only keep minute amounts of liquid down. After I drank even a little, I had to make sure I sat upright for at least a good 1/2 hour or I'd probably throw up. Thursday night I woke myself up coughing and spewed all over the bed. Oops. Since I couldn't keep liquids down, I didn't bother with the liquid Vicodin. By Friday I could drink a few sips at a time, and keep it down. Definitely had my salivary glands working overtime, and I kept a bucket nearby to spit into. I was able to sleep on my side with no problem by Friday. For me, there wasn't so much pain as just gassy nausea. I'm on my way home right now, and feel pretty normal...other than I have to sip slow and only 3 sips max at a time. My surgery was outpatient, so bear that in mind.

Anyone not take pain meds after surgery? (this is a constipation thread)
HatheryOnHerWay replied to NMJG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would just barf up the liquid Vicodin anyway, so i stopped taking it after the first failed attempt. Children's Tylenol went down better, and worked just fine. I has surgery Wednesday, and my first BM today. It was pretty horrifying. Haha -
I'm currently on my way home from surgery, wgich I had outpatient on Wednesday. I had no more issues outpatient with this surgery than I did with my gallbladder removal. As far as questioning why the surgeon "wants you out the door so fast", my surgeon does it outpatient so it's more affordable for self-pay patients. Hospital costs are what really rack up for self-pay patients.

Ideas for what to tell people?
HatheryOnHerWay replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm choosing only to tell a very few close individuals. I wouldn't mind everyone else knowing if I could just tell them and be done; but unfortunately, I know a lot of people who would choose to never let the subject drop. I want to get on with my normal life, and not field a constant barrage of "How are you feeling?", "How much have you lost?", "I read that such and such had the surgery", etc. I just don't need that extra stress and accountability to people that don't matter to me. -
Hey! Well I got sleeved yesterday morning. I got the go-ahead to start sipping water today. Both times it has ended with me throwing it up. Any idea how long this phase will last? I'm hoping only a few days

Spitting up
HatheryOnHerWay replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My flushing and hot redness have gone away I'm feeling much better, other than sipping still ends in foamy vomit 1/2 the time. This morning I woke up coughing and proceeded to throw up all over my bed--that was lovely. The doc said once I pass gas or have a BM ( haven't done either yet!) I should feel even better. Right now, the continual icky taste in my mouth is the worst. I wash my mouth out constantly! -

Spitting up
HatheryOnHerWay replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm worried I may have a fever, too. My chest and cheeks are so flushed and hot, but not my forehead. The doctor is coming by in about an hour so we'll see what he thinks -
Spouse worried about surgery - afraid I won't be the same
HatheryOnHerWay replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My hubby was not on board either. I just got sleeved yesterday, and he has been great. Even just cleaned the puke off the floor where I just spit up. It'll take time, but he'll come around -

HatheryOnHerWay replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! That makes me feel a lot better! Thankfully I'm not in too much pain, because my liquid pain meds were the first thing I projectile vomited. Haha -
