Liquids don't really do the trick during an episode. Walking helps me, once it passes then I drink some water and go on liquids for the next meal juuust to play it safe!

How long to eat after waking up?
NicVio replied to Smiles4Di's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't eat in the morning. I usually have a shake or try (try) to get a light yogurt down. 99% it's the shake. I'm ok to eat maybe 1 or 2 which is my typical lunch time anyway. Bands tend to be tight in the morning. I see so w people drink something warm to loosen it? I prefer the shake. I don't want to loosen it -

Doesn't hurt at all!!! It takes 2 or 3 mins (and i may be stretching that) and your done, it takes me longer to walk from the parking lot and up to his office then it takes to get a fill. I feel nothing.

what should I eat the day of my first fill?
NicVio replied to AbbieL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would ask your doctor as each Dr is different, my doctor told me it didn't make a difference what I ate, as long as it's been about 1 hour between food and fill. -
Daisy I'm also on the 6 small meals a day and it's not easy, these suckers are indeed small. I do find it easier to do. 3oz chicken is one meal. Amazing.

Stuck Episode and drinking too fast....
NicVio replied to Kimbergro's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the same way w bread... Unless its toasted I won't even dare! BTDT and do not want to deal w the bread being stuck! -
I went for my 1st fill about a month or so after my surgery & I went back every 4-5 weeks. I missed all last year due to insurance issues, but started again this year, same schedule every 4-5 weeks. Your doctor will give you a "fill schedule" Good luck!!!

It depends on your Dr on how many cc's you get, it doesn't hurt 1 bit. Small needle... Takes literally all of 1 minute, and I'm prob stretching that out.

3 years since surgery and never had to crush pills. I did change the x I took them. 8pm is my Vitamin,Biotin hour now.

I can't explain it but it happened to me this week. Fill on Tuesday AM, was fine w food wed and thurs am. As if I had no restriction. Then bam it hit me like a ton of freaking bricks. The dr said sometimes it takes a while??? The human body, go figure!!' I had to have a slight un-fill yest.

Shrimp is actually a tough food to eat if it's overcooked, can become very hard... Did u pop the whole shrimp in ur mouth or take bites of it? I have to cut my shrimp up and eat it piece by piece if I don't cook it myself... Good luck on your journey and eat slow & chew chew chew.

I never had a prob before, my dr encourages juicing bc we don't get enough veggies & fruits in our (little) diet lol. Just have to remember to hold off juicing so close to a fill. I love love juicing. But I will never ever make this mistake again... Ever

So, my dumbass self just had a fill Tuesday, had great results since my March fill (lost 9lbs in 3weeks). So today I decide to juice for b/fast orange, apple, carrot, and a few strawberries... I have done this before and have had NO problems, none! Yeah well 3 sips in, BAM! STUCK like I have never been stuck before - was pb'ing, sliming, throwing up, u name it for a good 4 hours. Its Juice, ok. so I go to my Dr, & my nurse yells at me <lol> too much fiber, too much in the orange, too close to the last fill... now she took fluid out & im instructed to s ay on liquids for 2-3 days, but NO juiced drinks Blah! Mind you, I have about 10 oranges up for grabs, anyone want em? lol Has anyone had a problem like this before?
-
Yes!!! I used to love bananas now I can't even smell them, makes me sick. The first time I tried one after I was banded I wanted to die!!!
-
Trust me maddy I will from now on lol

Usually on my fill day, I'm told to eat mushies that day and the following up to dinner time, for dinner ok to start reg food. This is the 1st time since 2011 that I was put on liquids by the Dr. though.

Took me about 2 or 3 fills to really feel restriction. Don't worry, you will get there & you are doing great!!!!

What does stuck mean?
NicVio replied to browneyedgirl84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A little bit of both I would say.... Please remember to eat S. L. O. W. and stop before you are "full". This is going to take time to get used to. If you are "stuck" then that also means that you are unable to get any other food or liquid down. It's a literal meaning to the word. When I get stuck, it's bc I ate too fast. Usually walking helps me relieve the pressure and somehow makes the food pass. Just be conscious, small bites, chew chew chew, and go slow! You should be fine! Good luck! -
How well do you tolerate soda after banding?
NicVio replied to PraisingHim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. said all carbonation is out. I have had sips of soda here and there and even the smallest sip HURTS! Not worth it IMO. Thankfully I wasn't a soda junkie. Seltzer was my poison, I have the soda stream now and I can control how much carbonation my seltzer has if IF I get the urge, which is almost never! -
After a whole year (2012) of no fills due to lack of insurance, and me not being able to afford $350 p/fill, I went and got my 1st of 2 INSURED fill last month, I maintained my weight for the 11months i did not have a fill, which my Dr. said was pretty darn good, as he said he expected a weight gain, as did I. So we were both pretty surprised. 1st fill was 1/10/13 - weight was 259, 2nd January fill 1/31/13 - weight was 254. Im going for my 3rd tomorrow and i cant WAIT!!!! The hardest thing I think i had to "get used to again" was the restriction. After almost a year of being able to eat more than I should, its pretty difficult to only eat 1cup of food. Mentally this is hard. Sort of like starting over again but, Im excited and ready for 2013!!! Have any of you out there had the same experience, how did you overcome the mental hunger - bc its getting more difficult each day.

My doctor as well told me NO. I did have a craving for soda a few months ago, once in a blue moon won't kill ya right. My heavens when I drank it I felt horrible. I mean maybe 2 or 3 sips, I was so uncomfy and it felt like something was stuck in my throat. Dr office said the carbonation did that. It hurt like hell and I said never again. It's not worth it.
