Numbing medication with fills
trassy replied to jessicakolman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went for my first fill on Monday (4wks after my surgery). I found it an unpleasant experience as well. I wish it would have been numbed because the doctor kept poking through my skin to find the port. It felt so weird when he'd keep hitting the metal around the port as well. I could feel it vibrating through my stomach..yuck!..lol. He said I still had too much post op fluid so it was making it difficult to fill. In the end he was only able to get in 1.5cc. He also said the orientation on the port was difficult. Hope that doesn't mean each visit involves a dozen pokes through my stomach!! I go in a month to try again. -
Thanks! I take it this is quite common to feel this way in the beginning then, until the fills start happening? Right now I can see the scars and feel the port in there so I know I've had surgery...but other than that I feel like will this surgery ever work?...lol

Hi everyone I was banded on March 23, 2010. I have been in the WeightWise Program for the past year and have worked very hard to finally be approved for surgery. I lost 50lbs through the program before they would consider performing the LAP-BAND® surgery. After the surgery, (while on the yummy liquid diet for 2 wks), I lost another 10lbs. I am feeling a bit discouraged right now though cause since I was able to go back on solids I've gained back 2lbs. I am not feeling any restrictions with the band now that the surgery swelling etc. has gone down and I realize that my band has still not had a fill yet but this is the first time since I began this journey that the scale has gone up on me and it freaked me out a little. Not really sure what to expect from here..I have a 3wk post op appt. with my surgeon tomorrow so I'll see what happens next I guess. I am so happy at this stage of things to have found this site so I can see I'm not going through this alone.

Congrats! The bloating and gas pressure in my body was the worst after the surgery. I didn't realize they put gas inside you to perform the surgery and it was so painful for me. I could feel pressure right up into my shoulders and collarbone. That was one thing I wasn't prepared for after the surgery.
