After battling weight problems my whole life and having PCOS I came to the realization that I needed to discuss with my doctor some options for a healthier me. I was divorced with two children and was lucky enough to find love again. I met a wonderful man and got engaged. Turned out he got sick and diagnosed with esphegeal cancer and died 6 mths later. The shock of watching him die at such a young age made me stop and realize the important things in life and to get my  priorities straight. It was then that I realized my health had to become my number one priority. I owed that to myself and my children. Two years ago I learned of the Weight Wise Program in Edmonton, Alberta.  It was a program designed to educate people before weight loss surgery could even take place. It took one year for my application to finally go through, and then I began travelling to Edmonton for my appointments at the hospital. I met with RN's, Doctors, Dietitians etc. I also attended many Modules about eating and weight loss (which was mandatory for the program if you wanted surgery). In the span of 10 months I completed all the expectations of the program and lost 50lbs. At this point I met with a surgeon and discussed which surgery I would like to have. I decided on the band and I just received my surgery on March 23, 2010. I am just short of a month post op and have had my ups and downs with the surgery so far. In the beginning I was discharged after surgery the next day but ended back in the hospital two days later dehydrated and very sick (wanting to throw up-dry heaves). The two weeks of liquid diet was not fun either!! But I got through it. Since I've started solids I haven't felt much of a difference yet, but realize I haven't had a fill yet. I meet with my surgeon on Monday so hopefully I will learn more then.
