14 CC Band vs Restriction
s.smith replied to s.smith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the reply, I guess what makes this more frustrating to us, is because we have a 4 hour drive one way to the Doctor's office. I want to maximize what my band is doing, at the rate I'm going it will take a year to get restriction. -
I have a 14 CC band and I am soon to be 3 months post op. Can others who have a 14 CC band tell me how full their band was when they reached restriction. I currently have 4 cc's and my doctor is telling me and my friend the same thing that we can only get 1/2 to 1 cc with each visit and we only go every month. This is frustrating as I have now lost only 30 lbs. The majority of my loss is from the liquid diet. The scales have just started moving again. I can attribute the rest of the weight loss to Zumba. I started two months ago going to Zumba classes that burn 600-800 calories per class and I do 7 classes weekly. I am loosing inches I have gone from a size 20 to a 16 but I want to see pounds! Beginning to get really frustrated with the whole thing!

Well I am almost 3 months post op and I have just hit the 30lb mark. (Much slower than I had expected) I go for my third fill August 9th. I hope to get some restriction. I really have not seen restriction since my swelling went down. I will say that I have joined Zumba classes and I do 7 classes weekly. I have lost from a size 20 to a 16 so at least have lost inches but not sure that the surgery itself has done a whole lot! I lost most of the weight on the liquid diet and I'm sure the Zumba it the majority of the rest.

Family/Friends reactions once you have the band?
s.smith replied to KimDB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose not to tell anyone but my immediate family and my work friends because a close work friend is doing it too. Now another person from work is having it done in Mexico, she is a size 12 and dont need the surgery. It is rather amazing to watch how others react. None the less, I am excited about my decision and look forward to reaching my goal! -
I had my surgery on the 4th, and returned to work on the 6th. I was slow moving but was ok. I have one incision that is about 1 inch, with another two small ones one right where my bra line is and one on the other side about 2 inches down. He said he had one pin hole incision in the upper middle but I cant locate that one and the other two already are very hard to find. I think the doctors are perfecting this surgery as they go! I have not had any neck or back pain. Went for my followup appointment yesterday and I will get my first fill June 28th....

10 days post op and I am down a total of 21 lbs since I started the pre-op diet. I have had gas really bad up til today, so I am hoping and praying it is gone! I am sure this is the best decision I have made in my life. I already feel different (in a good way) and so excited about my journey. Amazing how different you feel with just a few lbs off. Even went walking last night with my dogs and hubby!

See what your insurance requires, most only require a 6 month physician supervised diet that is under 1200 calories and low sugar and low carb.

BCBS = 1 ; Patient (me) = 0

I would pull your medical policy and read the requirements for approval. BC/BS requirements vary in each state. With my friends she had to have a BMI over 40 for a period of three years and be on a six month doctor supervised diet with no proof of weight loss. Mine required a BMI over 40 for a period of 5 years or a 35 BMI with one of 6 co-morbid conditions and a six month supervised weight loss proving that I could loose at least 5% of my initial body weight. They can all be tricky! Just a heads up... -
Banded May 6th. Cant wait for the gas to be gone.

Gas x and moving helps the gas but I read on here that the "left sholder" pain is a nerve thing. I was banded on the 4th and went back to work on the 6th so you can do it. I have a desk job, my main thing was lack of energy which has recovered now. Keep your shoulder moving my pain went away after two days but from what I read some have the shoulder pain longer. -
anyone's Dr NOT sew your incision shut?
s.smith replied to lauragshsu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have glue, steri strips and a large clear water proof with a large waterproof bandage covering all of the above and I was told to leave them all on until they came off naturally. -
Good luck, I will give you one tip that no one told me was to get a sports bra, my incisions are really high, I thought they would be low but my underwire did not work with the incision locations. Good luck!

The only reason I decided not to tell is because so many people have a wide range of opinions. I know I made this decision on my previous weight loss history (not good) and if anyone gets hurt it is me. So I didn't want any thing negative and I don't want to be let down if it doesn't work for me. Guess I have had a few too many diet failures. I just want to focus on the positives and right now every pound is positive and I am not subject to any negative feedback.

Well I was banded 05-04-10 the procedure took about 45 minutes then I was another hour and half in recovery. I have not had to have any pain medicine since recovery. Dealing with a little gas well alot of gas. GasX strips are the bomb by the way. I had lost a total of 13 lbs on the 10 day liquid diet and another three so far since surgery. 16lbs down and I can't wait to see where I will be in a few months. My husband was great, during the surgery process and I will say it is nice to have someone support your decision. I decided not to tell to many people. My work family knows because another friend from work will be banded in the next week or two but other family and friends do not know. Looking forward to see more positive results.
