How Much Did Price Affect Your Decision?
stefaniwg replied to SerendipityHappens's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I asked Nina about this and she said that they may not be offering this anymore due to payments not coming in on time. So the in house financing was not offered to me. -

Gastric Sleeve Surgery Date Set.....low Bmi
stefaniwg replied to Texasgirl73's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I read all 16 pages of this thread on my phone and loved them all! I am 29 5'2 with a bmi 33-35 183-188 depending on the scale, time, day or month. I had been going back and forth on what dr to go with but while reading this thread I placed my deposit for dr Garcia on 5/31. My whole family has obese with diabetes, hbp, strokes, heart disease well you name it they got it. I am revising from the lapband to sleeve and started out well and but started having problem with pain and vomiting. With the lapband I told my parents and my sister and of course my husband but didn't get the support I intended especially from my sister. She is very critical and thinks she has all the answers. So none of them will be told about the surgery. My husband is starting to come around. I told him if he wasn't going to be supportive then I didn't want him to go with me and I would do it alone. He has some time to get use to it. I too am tired of being told " you're not that fat". The fact of the matter is that I am and that I am heading down the road of taking 20 pills a day like the rest of my family because they refuse to do anything about their weight. As for the stupid comments I would like to add mine. My husband is 6'1 and 165 pounds. A stick! Many years ago (we've been together since I was 15 and 117 pounds) after I have put on much "love" weight we saw someone we knew from high school and she said well I know who's been eating everything at your house! It took everything in me not to beat the crap out of her! Lol Good luck to everyone and let's keep this one going! -
Thanks Amanda! I will ask Nina about it.

Choices Choices - F.Garcia (TJ), Aceves (Mexicali), Alvarez (Piedras Negras)
stefaniwg replied to Cyant's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am in the same dilemma as you. I am between Garcia and Aceves since they seem to have most experience in revision surgery. I will have to save a little longer if I go with Aceves and I am ready to get this done! But I also want to make sure I make the right decision on what dr I choose. -
Something horrible happened last night...
stefaniwg replied to bee13's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I totally understand where you are coming from. I currently have the band and had it done here in the states. I told my parents and sister of course my husband and they were not quite understanding about it then how about me going to Mexico to be revisited to the sleeve! Uh heck no I'm not going to tell them!! Maybe one day I will and maybe not. They would rather me stay obese and develop my family genetic diabetes, high blood pressure, stokes and heart disease than get healthy from a surgery and definitely not one in Mexico! Just kidding but not really. They love you even your husband though he went about it in the most horrible way it was out of love and fear. Now he would for sure be in the dog house and deserve whatever you give him. We can't give you answers but you have to do what's best for you because no one else will. We are all here for you. -
Dr. Aceves, Mexicali, and Me!

Going to Dr. Aceves solo in summer 2013
stefaniwg replied to ahri's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I really want to go with Aceves and so does my husband but the cost is making it difficult. I too am revising from the band and want someone who really knows what he's doing and it sounds like he is it! I have half of his cost saved and really want to have this done in June. Decisions. Decisions. -
Has anyone ever used this company? If so how was your experience? I just can't seem to find much info on them. TIA

I assume they do stand behind the doctor being the coordinator listed it as a finance option but mymedicalloan is also on that list and I have heard horrible things about that place. This is for Dr. Aceves in Mexicali for my revision from band to sleeve. My next option will be Dr. Garcia in Tijuana.

Fundmydr.com was on the list of finance options from the dr but I just haven't heard much on this one. Hmmmm...

Help Making the Right Choice
stefaniwg replied to tamarlarae's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am new here but I currently have the lapband. I initially got the band so my husband and I could have another child and at first I did great. Lost about 50lbs my first year and then it all went down hill. I couldn't get past that 50lb mark. So I was driving over an hour every month to get fills/unfill's trying to get that sweet spot and as if I thought life couldn't get any worse that last fill/unfill set me off to sliming at every meal. What I mean by that when a piece of food would get stuck it starts with reflux, hard chest pounding, eyes get watery, can't talk and running to the toilet. Then slime(thick silva) and the undigested food will come up. This is not like vomit but has been my life for over a year and it sucks!! I have had the band for 3 years and am looking into having the sleeve. I'm going to have to be self pay this time as now my bmi is too low for insurance to cover it even though I have gained 20 of the 50 pounds due to eating around my band with slider foods just so I wouldn't slime. I have gotten pregnant only once which ended in miscarriage in 2011. From my personal experience I would not recommend the band. It's not meant to last forever and the complications that I have seen far out weigh the good. It's just not worth it especially since my husband never wants to take me out to eat since the first thing I do is look for the restroom. It's embarrassing. I still have at least 50 more pounds to lose so sleeve here I come! Do what's best for you and good luck! -
Lapband to Sleeve in Mexico.... Who did you use?
stefaniwg posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have had my band for almost 3 years and I hate it!! Dense meat is not an option for me and most fibrous veggies won't work either. I slime, puke, pb or whatever you call it at almost every and I am sick of it.. I could never get a "sweet spot" and never really a good amount of weight. I am 5'0 weighed 200 the day of surgery and 188 today bmi 37. I went to my surgeon who did my lapband deemed my lapband and failure and suggested to I covert to the sleeve. However the person who does the insurance said I didn't "weigh enough" to send it to my insurance and it called out the $17,000 price tag to me. Which was out of the question. So I am looking those who have gone to Mexico to have a lapband revised to sleeve. What dr did you use? What was your experience with surgery and care? What was the cost? -
Lapband to Sleeve in Mexico.... Who did you use?
stefaniwg replied to stefaniwg's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
In looking for a surgeon, I first need skill and sucess with band to sleeve revision, hospital setting and then cost. I'm a stay at home mom with a young daughter so I am on budget and my husband is making sure of that! I will not sacrifice going the "cheaper" route when we are talking about my life but I'm having a hard time trying to squeeze out that extra $5,000 to have this done or convincing my husband to unclench his pocket. He's understanding but doesn't understand what it's like to be overweight since he's been a bean pole his whole life. I asked him if he would take the money out of his 401k and he looked at me like I was crazy! Lol maybe I just need to save a little bit longer. -
Lapband to Sleeve in Mexico.... Who did you use?
stefaniwg replied to stefaniwg's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I would love to use Dr. Aceves as I have read and read about how wonderful he is however I don't have that kind of cash being quoted $10,500 I would have to save a little while longer and I am ready to get this band OUT! Lol I'm still looking and am wanting to have this done sooner rather than later. Does anyone know why he's like $5k more than others? Just curious... -

My lapband to gastric sleeve revision
stefaniwg replied to nanalisa46's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am so happy for you that you now have the proper tool to get you where you want to be. Who is your current surgeon? I also went thru true results for my band and am looking for a revision. I went to see my band dr as he also does the sleeve and gastric and his office told me even though I vomit daily they wouldn't submit it to my insurance since I don't "weigh enough". I weighted 200 the day of surgery got down to 158 and have now gained 30lbs back. I've been looking for another dr and even considering going to Mexico. If he is in the Houston area please let me know. -
True Results - Houston
stefaniwg replied to MySkinnyDream's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded by Dr. Hollis and have never attended a meeting also due to the drive. I live in West Columbia which is about 45 minutes to an hour away sometimes longer depending on traffic. I stuggle with this journey and could really use a face to face support group but I'm also concerned about making the drive and no one shows. -
Getting/Being pregnant after being Banded
stefaniwg replied to Adrienne86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said the same as everyone else's did. I went back and forth on this and I wondered if I should wait until I have another baby to get the lapband or lose a good amount of weight prior to having a baby so that I would have less complications than I did with my daughter. My husband and I tried for several months to get pregnant prior to getting banded with no success. So I decided to get the band first and hope for the best. I have been banded for almost 6 months and I will see what happens next. Good luck!
