    Trying to decide

I agree with you Lisa. Hind sight is always 20/20 and this band is no exception. The band failed me, I didn't fail the band. I was too tight over a year ago and have not been able to handle dense protein or fibrous veggies or fruit since then with trying to find the "sweet spot". I can't wait to start this new part of my life with the sleeve.
  2. I'm still going to Dr.Garcia, that's who I paid my deposit for. I'm not sure if there is more than one but I'm going to Dr. Fernando Garcia in TJ.

    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

I'm 5'2 and I'm revising from the band to sleeve on 5/31. My highest weight was 218, CW 188, GW 125-135. Can't wait to get this band out and start my journey with a healthy lifestyle.
  4. I hear ya! I have a ton of clothes that I can't wait to fit into. I can't wait to get my sleeve! Come on May 31st!!!

    Trying to decide

I am revising from the band to sleeve May 31st. I too an not a huge eater but that's because of the band and I resort to slider food to not vomit. I want to sleeve so I can eat healthier without vomiting after I few bites. The band sucks and I wish it was taken off the market as it causes more harm than good. I wish you the best with your decision!
  7. How about I just spent hours reading all 29 pages of this thread. Got my soap opera fix for sure! And since I did read all of it I feel entitled to give my 2 cents! Lol American doctors will do a WLS on those with a 30 BMI because they are still considered obese. We all have food addictions or wouldn't be obese to have the surgery in the first place. Doctors in Mexico have years of more experience in WLS than in American. Some of them trained American doctors. We all to some extent do this for vanity. The main reason may be for health but I have shopped in plus size stores and hated it and want to feel good about myself. This isn't a crime! We all wish we could have taken control of our weight but didn't and that's why we are where we are. Even if someone has 40lbs to lose that still isn't easy. It's easier said than done to just diet and exercise. The sleeve is a tool to restrict the amount of food you can consume and we all need it to get to our ideal weight or none of us would be here. Congrats to those trying to take control over your life and weight before it gets out of control and you can prevent future health problems. Having said all that. I love fluffy bunnies, fried bologna, snickers, bread, pasta, wine and narcotics!

    Who did you tell?

I'm 29 and am revising from the band to sleeve. When I got the band I told my husband, parents and sister. Other than my husband all thought I was crazy and "not that fat", but my whole family is overweight and has health problems. I'm revising due to band complications and only told my husband. However we are extremely private people and really don't like others all up in our business it's always been this way. I may tell my parents after its all over and when all is well or I may not. They know I am private but am also a ball of fire if they give me grief about it or told anyone without my permission. This is no different to me than not telling everyone I got a new car, job, house, purse or that I'm going on vacation. This is just who I am. I have lost lots of weight off and on thru the years so I'm sure no one will be suspicious when I pop up thin. Especially since I don't see extended family often. IMO this is your body and life and if you don't want to tell people that's your right.

    HUGE fight with the Hubster

I would say give him time to adjust to the idea of the revision. My husband was not on board at all with the idea and on top of that I'm going to Mexico to have it done. He was terrified. I have not had the surgery yet but I laid it all out there for him and didn't bring it up anymore. After a few weeks he's now extremely happy for me and is anticipating the day. It's not easy having someone that loves you be against you in something you feel passionately about. Just give him time and show him some success stories. Like cowgirl, she would be a good one to start with. Most of us are here for you and I hope things get better.

    Mexico and financing?!?

No. I'm paying cash. Pinching pennies to have it all in time.

    Mexico and financing?!?

I am actually going to Mexico for $5500 that is including removing my lapband with Dr. Garcia. They have several financing companies you can use. Depending on which doctor you choose they will send you the information on the finance companies. I am choosing Mexico because it was going to cost me $17,000 here in the states which you can use care credit here.

So Who's The Fat Girl Now?!

    You look awesome! Congrats!

    Final cost: $54,855.30

When billing insurance companies they jack the price up significantly then the price is discounted if its in the network. I think they charge that just to see how much they can get IMO. Self pay cost is much cheaper than what they charge insurance. My cousin and I had a breast reduction around the same time with the same doctor. I went thru insurance and My EOB from my insurance showed $26,000 when my cousin self paid $5500 for the same surgery.

    Texas Forum?

I too am from Houston area. Dr Hollis did my lapband back in 2010. I have had several complications and he said I needed to be revised to the sleeve. My insurance will cover but Beth said since my BMI less than 40 now she won't send to my insurance so off to Mexico I go! I will be sleeved on May 31st.
