for those of you that had band to sleeve in 1 step
stefaniwg replied to socalfosh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had mine unfilled for about 6 weeks prior to my revision. It does make the surgery easier IMO. -
Prior to last week I was just being more aware of what I was eating and would think "oh well that's not too bad" but I guess it was. I started keeping my carbs under 25 per day. I always cook chicken, turkey or seafood and veggies. Eating my Protein first I may get a bite or two of the veggie as I get full off of the meat first. That has helped tremendously. It sounds hard but once you get started the end result is the same eating baked chicken as if it was pizza, and that's full and satisfied! I try to get in as much Water as possible and I do exercise 3-5 times a week but I was doing that before I started this. Let me know if you have any questions!

stefaniwg replied to mrsplusamericajacksonville's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

If your hair is going to fall out, it's going to fall out and really in my experience there is nothing that you can do about it. Taking at least 5000 mg of biotin will help with healthy new hair growth but won't prevent it from happening. Nothing will prevent it. It starts around the 3 month mark. Good luck on your surgery!

Thanks! That gives me hope! Walgreens had it on sale BOGO so I have plenty and will use it everyday!

How much weight have you lost after revision to sleeve?
stefaniwg replied to SandrafromNJ's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 8 weeks post op and I love the sleeve most if all because I'm not throwing up at every meal now like with the band. I have lost 21 lbs so far. I wish it was coming off faster but I'm am at my most steady weight with the band and only 7 pounds away from being the lowest I have weighed in about 12 years! I couldn't be happier with the sleeve, I only wish I had it first. -
It's by NIVEA and suppose to firm and tighten skin.
-
Sleeved May 22nd and still at the same old 21 pounds!
-
I will and me too. I have been putting it on daily for about a month but I was focusing more on my thighs than my tummy until about the last 2 weeks. My thighs do seem smoother though.
-
I'm 29 and 8 weeks post op. I will be 30 next month and am concerned about saggy skin in my tummy and thighs. I had a breast reduction several years ago and well now that's where I'm losing the weight first! I have stretch marks on my tummy and I know it won't look super hot but I just don't want it to sag! So I'm putting Q10 lotion on it every night hoping it will help but we will see in time.

Self pay sleevers: BMI of 30 or close
stefaniwg replied to Tripletmom's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My bmi was 33ish when I was sleeved 8 weeks ago. I previously had the lapband at a 40 bmi so I was fully aware of what I was getting myself into. I considered this to be a preventative surgery to me, instead of waiting until I had to do something about my weight and I was even more miserable than ever with a mile long list of co morbidities that I was just waiting to happen. I have since lost about 24 pounds and am at lowest weight i have been in over 10 years! I'm happy, socialize like always but now I eat to live instead of living to eat! A 30 bmi still makes you obese so there shouldn't be any judgement but there will be. Not only from here but friends and family. This is your life and you only have one. If this is what you want to do. Do it and screw everyone else! -

Our PCP doesn't want to do Post-Op care after Mexico surgery
stefaniwg replied to gamergirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also went to Mexico to see dr Garcia at Florence oasis 8 weeks ago and the care I received was top notch! Better than any surgery I had in the US that's for sure. I went for a revision from the lapband which I had done here but my lapband dr wanted me to gain 30 lbs in order to revise despite the fact I was having issues before he would submit to my insurance. So off to Mexico I went. Once I got there they did several exams and panels of blood work to make sure I was ok for surgery. I plan to see my pcp once I'm 3 months po for my annual physical and blood work. I will tell him I had the sleeve just as I did with the band and he asked no questions. Hoping for the same this time. If not I do have a back up bariatric dr that will see patients that went to Mexico that's about an hour away. -

Has Anyone Managed To Keep Surgery Completely Private?
stefaniwg replied to bettyboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am extremely private person and I don't tell anyone my business so the sleeve was no different. I'm 7 weeks post op and only my husband knows. I didn't tell my daughter, parents, siblings, friends NO ONE! -
birth control after sleeve?
stefaniwg replied to lankymom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have had the para guard non hormonal IUD and the mirena. The paraguard was fine for the first few years and then my cycle became very heavy and cramps were so bad I would have to call in to work every month because if them. Then we decided to try for #2 but I ended up getting the lapband and needed to go back on birth control for awhile so I got the mirena. It was horrible!!! I cramped and bleed non stop from the time I got it. After several month I decided to have it removed. It messed my body up so much I have not had a successful pregnancy since. My last was a ectopic pregnancy but not within my tubes! Therefore I had to get rounds of methotrexate (which is a form of chemo) to get rid of it. My hair feel out like crazy and I was very depressed. Now I'm on lo lo estrin fe 28 and I no longer have a cycle. I did have to get off of it for 2 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after but I've been fine. I too would never recommend the mirena to anyone Asti has made me give up on ever having any more children. -
