    Hernia Question

I didn't have that test done but did have the ekg. When I woke up I was told that I too had a huge hital hernia and it was repaired. I wasn't surprised since I had been suffering from acid reflux for several years.

    Zumba

I bought the zumba dvd's did them twice and my dvd player broke. I just got a new and started back again today. I love zumba! I am one of those who would feel silly doing it in a group so the dvd's are great for me. I would give it a try and it does have a 30 or 60 day money back if you don't like it. Good luck!
  3. You are not alone. I have been at the same weight for about a month now and am totally frustrated. My highest weight was 209 and surgery day weight was 200. I lost 10lbs in the first week or so after the band. I gained a few back after I started the mushie stage and have been fighting just to keep these last few off daily. I feel that I can eat however much that I want or whatever I want. I have zero restriction. I go for my second fill in the morning and hope that I can get more than .5cc this time. I try really hard to exercise 3-5 days a week and eat healthy meals but it's hard keep at it when the scale isn't moving. Good luck and skinny wishes to everyone!
  4. I was also more hungry after my first fill than I was prior to having one. I am not sure why this happens so if someone knows why I would really like to know. I go for my 2nd fill on the 22nd and I hope this doesn't happen again.

    Halloween Challenge

I'm in! I put myself down for 20 lb. I know that's pushing it but I got to get my 2nd fill in a week and I have increased my exercise so I'm hoping that I can make it happen! Good luck to everyone!!

    Carbonation!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL Shay 7997 about the drinking from a straw in public. I totally feel ya! I had a food addiction and along with that I had a soda one too. I went from drink tons of coke to now a small amount of coke zero. That was a huge change for me. I am just taking everything with this lapband one day at a time. My doctor never told me to not to have carbonation but the nut did say I shouldn't drink from a straw but I do every day with my protein shake. That is the only way I can drink it. So I choose my battle. I drink thru a straw and I do have more gas but it's the gas or protein. I choose the protein. As far as being in any pain when drinking from a straw or having soda it's never happened to me. But like to others have said everyone is different. Just like with food now you just have to try it to see if it works for you.
  7. Thats great news! I can't wait until I can say that. Congrats to you and your success!!

    Using a Straw

My doctor has the no straw rule and I'm a girl who love the break the rules!! lol I still drink from a straw from time to time but it does give me extreme gas but I just let it rip and keep on going. I normally drink from a straw to drink my protein shakes since I hate them some much I seem to be able to drink them faster with a straw. I also use them when I go out to eat. But if you don't mind the gas I say go for it!

Dr. Ken Hollis in Houston, TX

I was banded by Dr. Hollis on 7/22/10. I did have hital hernia but I didn't have to pay any extra at least not that I know of yet. I have United Healthcare. I did use True Results and they were great but when it came down to having the surgery his office in Webster was awful. I was told the worng stuff about alot of things and they were many problems. I was suppose to have the surgery on May 10th but they gave me so much crap I said nevermind about the WLS. After a month or so I had decided to go ahead with it again and everything went great this time. Dr. Hollis was very nice and had wonderful bedside manner. I saw at my 4 week post op appt and was only given a .5cc fill, that is the only thing I can say bad about him since I am so hungry still!! lol

    need to admit this...

I know what you mean. I am pms'ing right now and totally went off on my husband this morning and made a banana cream pound cake!! I only had one piece and took the rest to my parents house. That was the first time I had sweets since surgery. After I ate the cake I felt so bad. I'm trying so hard to make this work for me. What has helped me in the past is when I plan every meal and snack for one week at a time. That way its easier to not deviate from my meal plan. I am going to re-start this today! Take you some healthy snacks along (protein bars, pre-made shakes, fruit,) Something else that I have found that I like is Special K potein water add ins. They only have 5g but it's pretty good, comes in iced tea, pink lemonade and strawberry kiwi. Good luck!
  12. I totally understand how you feel. My doctor only gave me a .5 cc fill for my first fill last week and I had 1 cc during surgery. I am still starving!! I too am to only have 1 fill per month. I have been stuck at the same weight for more than 3 weeks!! I eat according to my doctors plan and exercise 3-5 times a week walking 2-3 miles each day. I get all of my Protein in a day, no snacking, drinking all my fluids. I am beyond frustrated! I hope everything gets better for the both of us soon!
  13. If you are feeling weak you may need to up your iron intake with how frequent your cycles are you may becoming anemic. I'm not sure why you are having this problem but I would talk to your gyno, your surgeon probably won't be able to do anything for that. I am about 5 weeks post op. My last day of my cycle was the day of surgery. I had my next cycle about 3 weeks later and it was very different. Like someone else said, I had no symptoms when I normally do. It was also very cloudy looking and lighter which was weird since it's normally heavy. Are you taking any type of b/c? Since that is suppose to even your cycles out maybe your gyno will put you on some.

    First fill...Where did it go?

I am 5 weeks post op and had my first fill on Wednesday. I was told that I had 1cc from surgery and was only given .5cc for my fill. I was very disappointed with the small amount of fill that I was given. I am still hungry all the time and I dont go back for another fill until the 22nd. Thats along time to be hungry. It also seems that I am more hungry now than I was before the fill?? Anyone else have this problem or does the fill kick in days later with everyone?
  15. I just had my first fill on Wednesday at 5 weeks post op. I was also nervous at first but it went smoothly. I don't go back until 4 more weeks. I had 1 cc in during surgery and only had 1/2 cc on Wednesday for a total of 1.5 cc in my 10 cc band! I am so hungry still! I am more hungry than I was prior to having the fill. Is this normal?
  16. My family is taking one more mini vacation before school starts on Monday and I am HUNGRY! Over the past few days I have been able to eat a whole lot more than I was able to a weeks ago. I am worried that it took forever to get out of the 190's and now I am going to blow it all on vacation. I am trying so hard to exercise several times a week and to eat all the good things, fruit, protein shakes and bars, salad etc but it already seems to be getting harder and harder to loose any weight. I do weigh myself everyday but I don't freak out about it (anymore that is) but for the last two weeks it has been staying the same... I can't wait until I have my first fill next Friday. Hopefully that I will help me out with kicking my weight lost up a notch! I hope everyone is doing well!
  17. I totally understand how you are feeling. I am 4 weeks post op and have only lost 12lbs, 10 of which were in the first week! I exercise 5-6 times a week and I really don't eat a whole meal but several times during the day I will eat small amounts of food. As the others have said you need to find some type of way to get your body moving and to sweat! I have gotten very bored of the treadmill so I am looking for some other ways to exercise. Also since you are still fairly new to the lapband I'm sure you haven't gotten to your "sweet spot" yet and once you do I hear the weight will melt off of you !! I can't wait for that time to come. Don't give up on yourself we didn't gain all this weight overnight and it isn't going to come off over night either. Be encouraged and just keep going!! Good luck!

    Concerned: Pregnancy after Band

I have also been concerned about getting pregnant with the lapband. I have a 4 almost 5 year old daughter and and I will be 27 next week. My husband and I tried for about a year and was not able to conceive then I got the lapband 4 weeks ago hoping that once I get to a good weight I can have another baby. I didn't want to have another child once I got close to 30 but hey sometimes decisions get made for you. I am terrified of having a c-section. Does anyone know if you are more likely to have a c-section with the lapband?

    Zumba

Zumba does look like fun. I see the infomercial all the time and I want it bad! I am trying to talk myself into going to a classto try it out but I don't want to go by myself. Maybe I'll try an early morning class once my daughter starts school next week. Does anyone know how much the class cost?

    August 12

How is the P90X going? I just ordered it and my husband and I are going to start once we come back from vacation on the 22nd. I am only 3 weeks out but have been on the treadmill almost everyday since around day 3 or 4 post op. I am ready to step it up a bit!
  21. When I first went into the dr's office they told me my bmi was too low I needed at least a bmi of 42 to even submit to my insurance and my advocate told me to go to academy to "gain" some "weights" and come back to get weighed again. I was approved within 3 weeks!
  22. I also had both done when I was banded on 7/22. It took about 2 weeks for it to go away with out it bothering me at all during the day. Take deep breaths through out the day (i know its painful) and walk as much as possible. Let the gas out! It will get better. Good luck!

    Protein shopping

I try to take in as much protein at one time as possible since I would prefer to eat my protein rather than drink it. With that said while I was on my post op diet I used EAS whey protein which has 23 grams per scoop. I use two scoops with soy milk which the one I buy has 12 grams of protein per serving so that gives me 58 grams of protein per shake. When I don't feel like cooking or just eating I have one of these. I know of some that use sugar free syrups for coffee in them to make them a little more tasty. I haven't tried it yet though. Good luck!

Dr. Hollis' Fast Track for Weight Loss Guidelines

I am also a patient of Dr. Hollis, this plan worked very well for me during my pre-op diet even though I was only on it for 10 days I still lost 6 pounds!

    Weight Gain!!!

I am also 3 weeks post op and had a similar problem. I only lost 6 pounds on my pre-op diet, lost 10 pounds my first 2 weeks and gained 4 lbs at the end of last week, when I started soft foods. I am not a calorie counter but I know that I don't have no more that 1,000 per day. I dont eat very much at all. I have a protein shake in the morning after I exercise, have protein water and a snack around lunch time and eat like 1/2 cup for dinner. Making sure that I get all my protein in is very hard for me, but I don't want to lose my hair so I do it anyway. I decided to work really hard this week to get those 4 pounds off and I did. I do about 2-3 miles a day on the treadmill and am think about joining a Zumba class. I was very frustrated and disappointed in myself when I gained those 4 pounds and was driving my husband crazy. Then I realized that once I get a fill then I will have true restriction. Even though I don't eat much now but I am sure the pounds will start to fall off quickly then. I get my first fill on the 25th and am really excited for some more progress. Just try not to put so much pressure on yourself at this point about the weightloss it will come. I started measuring myself and even though I'm not seeing the numbers I would like on the scale, I am seeing the inches fall off!! It will get better. Good luck!
