  1. I, too, like Unjury...you can even buy it on Amazon. Go ahead and order things now. I was banded a 8 days ago. I had everything ordered and ready to go when I was banded, but went grocery shopping for the family 2 days after surgery. You will be alright if there is something you don't have. I would have plenty of soup on hand as well as protein shakes. I also just got chewable kids vitamins and chewable fiber and calcium supplements. Good luck!

    Soft Foods

Dr. gave the okay today to move to soft foods. Yay! I had a little sushi with brown rice today for lunch. Healthy and also very yummy. Feeling good and ready for the weekend. My possible fill date is in 3 1/2 weeks. Exciting!
  3. I was banded a week ago, and besides a little soreness left and my visible incisions when I change clothes (lol), I can hardly tell I had it done. You will feel better in no time flat!

    One Week Banded

I am at the one week mark....yay! Now that I am getting over this cold I got post-op (thanks to my sweet children at home), I am feeling much better. I had some pain at my port site for a few days, but even that has subsided. Overall, I feel fantastic. Last night, I cooked dinner for the rest of the family, did some cleaning and then relaxed. At work, I just get up and move around throughout the day. I took just two days off (Thursday and Friday). I had a lot of work to come back to, so I'm glad I didn't have to take off more time! The only rough day was the first day back. It was not fun being sore, having a cold, and just wanting to be back at home. I am still living on my instant potatoes, protein shakes, natural applesauce, and light yogurt. And, I"m okay with that. The scale really hasn't moved much the past couple days, but I'm okay with that. Now, if only I could stop jumping on it 4 times a day! How is everyone else doing?

    One Week Banded

Thank you, LoseIt! Smilchic, I know what you mean about the water. I kept drinking the first 4 or 5 days, then the past couple, I have had to push myself to get liquids in!

    ok i have enough

My nutritionist is the one who initially recommended sparkpeople. I have the app on my iPhone and it's so easy just to plug in my food when I'm on the go. It helps keep me motivated and also charts my weight. Love it!

    Need more protein!

I have EAS Chocolate right now and it's decent. I purchased Unjury and Bariatric Advantage before at the doctor's office and those have been the best---but also the most expensive! I drink 2-3/day to make sure I get all my protein in, but I also just had surgery, too.

    ok i have enough

Try sparkpeople. com ....I use this site everyday to keep track of my foods. I just put in what I eat and it breaks it down for me. I initially entered a goal weight set for January 2011 and it breaks down how many calories and how much protein, carbs, and fat I can have each day. It keeps me on track while I have no restriction.

    My liquid diet

Keep drinking protein shakes. With a good protein shake and nonfast milk, it should be around 200 calories. If you drink 3/day, you will at least get in around 600 calories and all of your protein for the day. Trust me, you will feel better!
  10. I was just curious as I know some people need them and some don't. I am on my refill already (I had surgery 6 days ago). First, for the throat pain after surgery and now for the port area, which just began to be painful a few days ago. I'm just ready to be off of them completely, as I take them about twice/day, but I still hurt some.
  11. Good point...I don't think people much if they are without pain and without much to report. I guess, with me, it's the social comparison when you are in pain. I didn't have any gas pain, but I did have drainage the day of surgery due to a cold coming on, and my throat burned afterwards. I may be guilty of "overdoing it" a bit after surgery, though, because other than my throat, I felt overall good. And, it hasn't helped that my drainage turned into a full blown cold this week. When the coughing started, I started to really feel pain!
  12. They gave me liquid Lortab, enough for twenty doses. I went through that and about 4 doses of the new bottle.
  13. That is a great story! Not being confident with my body holds me back from enjoying a lot more than I openly realize. I can't wait to get this weight off and regain confidence!

    Amount of Calories??????

The apple/cheese comparison was absolutely fabulous! When I started dieting after I had my daughter, I was MISERABLE trying to keep a diet of around 1500 calories. Now that I am post op and watching everything like a hawk, I am lucky to get in 1000 calories. And, I would also agree with the statement that most of us were eating over 2500 calories (or way more) before the band. So, this is a huge lifestyle change.

    5 Days Post Op

The first day back to work yesterday was okay. I lasted about 7 1/2 hours out of 9 then called it a day. I took ibuprofen with me, but it wasn't cutting it. I was so happy to get home and take my pain meds! I fixed some thin, instant potatoes last night as yesterday marked the first day I could eat thicker, full liquids. They were so yummy and I'm not even a potato person! I had a serving of that and a serving of tomato soup for dinner and it was actually quite filling (I'm on high alert for portion sizes these days!). A couple hours later, I enjoyed a small container of actual pudding, which was a welcomed step up from popsicles (I need a tiny break from them). Today, I had a protein shake for breakfast, leftover soup/potatoes for lunch, and I figure i will drink another shake this afternoon so I can get my protein in. I think I might puree some leftover taco soup for dinner tonight. I am trying hard to at least get 1000 calories in. I haven't been doing that after the surgery and I find I don't have very much energy and my weight loss stalls out. I actually gained 4 pounds from the liquids during surgery, but lost it (and one more, too) as of this morning. One thing I make sure of is that I take my chewable vitamins and get my protein in. That is a must. Thank goodness for sparkpeople to keep me on track! My incisions feel better today, too. Not as sore and I was actually able to move around from my back to side last night without realizing it. Usually, I wake up to change positions because it hurts. It is also easier to get in and out of bed. I still have a bit of a sore throat, but it is so much better! I think it has healed from the surgery but what is left is from this cold I am trying to shake. The kids have it, too, so I will be glad once it leaves the house. I am thinking that my throat probably hurt worse than it should because I had drainage on the day of surgery, which I'm sure didn't make the tube situation better. I did bring my pain meds to work today. I took them shortly after arriving at work this morning so it'll be worn off by the time I drive home. Luckily, I have desk job and a position that will allow me to take pain meds and still perform. They are helping 100%. It is so hard to sit upright during the day, all day long, at the moment. I know it'll get all better and I'm hoping to be off of pain meds completely in the next couple of days. Each day,I fell better and better! How is everyone else feeling since surgery? Any additional weight loss? What does your diet look like now (even if you are months post op, what do you eat?)?

    5 Days Post Op

i hear ya! The pants I am wearing today are looser through the legs and the butt. I can definitely tell I'm down 18 pounds. But, the waist is uncomfortably tight. I have it buttoned below my incisions and everything but MANNNNN! I am going back to stretchy pants tomorrow....
  17. I am still using the protein shakes to ensure I get enough protein in....I am only full liquids right now. However, after i get the okay for 'real food' I plan on eating a lot of chicken! I found that my family loves the grilled chicken from KFC. A couple pieces are just the right amount of calories and protein! We even piece it up and throw it on salads.
  18. I had surgery on 9/30. I am trying to get more calories in, via my full liquid diet (using protein shakes, etc). I was steadily losing until surgery, when I gained 4 pounds in fluid weight. I lost the 4 pounds I gained and lost one more pound. I think when I was only taking in 500 calories/day after surgery, my body kicked in to starvation mode. If I keep it around 1000 calories, my body starts to lose again.

    Post op day 1

Congratulations on your band! I'm glad to hear everything is going well. Just keep sipping liquid and make sure you get enough walking in to keep the gas at bay!

    4 Days Post Op

aka "Back to work day". I probably should have taken today off to just sleep, but there always has to be a first day back, right? My throat pain has gotten a lot better. Unfortunately, it seems like a chest cold is settling in with my drainage. I was super freaked out about coughing and slipping, but my surgeon's office just told me it would be okay and it will get better :-) I have another dose of pain meds being called in (thankfully) and can't wait to get home, put on my pj's, and rest. My incision area has felt really good, considering, and is just sore due to some coughing. I hope everyone is doing okay..I have managed to escape most of the gas pain and I feel extremely grateful for that! Back to work and trying to remind myself to get up an move every hour!
  21. I was banded last Thursday and went back to work today. I am managing just fine, but I would have rather had a full week off to rest.

    Night 2 Post Op

It's a little after midnight here. I just got up and my throat is killing me! Anyone else have this problem after surgery? I'm really wondering if I should go in to have it swabbed or if it is just maybe normal to have this. I have a lot of drainage, too (although, I had drainage on surgery day, too). Also, I was on antibiotics a few days before surgery. Ouch, help!

    Night 2 Post Op

Thank you all for the suggestions...I continue to walk, which keeps gas at bay. I'm surprised that I really haven't had much at all! I have my sugar free pops which helps with my throat. I'm thinking I might have to have a refill on my pain meds to get me through another couple days (primarily, at night) but then I should be good!
  24. qtney1

    Tomorrow is My day!

Best of luck on your surgery tomorrow! I had mine Thursday. The best advise I can give is keep fluids pumping and walk, walk, walk. I have had virtually no gas pain and I think it's because I've walked so much :-)

    Night 2 Post Op

No temperature. I called the nurses line yesterday and they said if I do get a temperature, to be seen. But, I guess I will just gargle with salt water and keep on my pain meds for a little while longer :-) Still completely worth the pain, though!
