  1. Have any of you heard of sugar-free Carnation Instant Breakfast? Also, where is it for sale? Thanks, for your help!

    major itchy incision sites!!!

I was sleeved on Dec. 9th and had the same issue. It was an allergic reaction to the steri-strips. The Dr. told me to put Benadryl on it. It helped some and I also took an antihistamine (my idea). What I found that did help was gently rubbing the area to make sure there was no adhesive residual left and then I put cornstarch on. It seemed to settle down after that. I hope you find relief soon!
  3. Thanks, my friends! I did find some today at our Albertsons and am looking forward to having it tomorrow. (It takes very little to get me excited!)
  4. Hi, Gang! I was wondering how your diabetes has been affected since surgery. I was sleeved on Dec. 9th and had higher blood sugar, but now am back to my regular levels. If your blood sugars have gotten lower, when did it happen? I sure appreciate any input you can give!

    And the stupid comments begin...

I have explained to people (that I trust) that I had weight-loss surgery to help with my diabetes. That usually validates the need for it. They have been very supportive. Some people worry that I won't be able to stop losing weight when I get to my goal. (They don't know me very well, do they?)

    Got Poop?

Thank you so much! I will try Miralax first and then up my fiber. I know I will be lighter on my feet soon!

    Food Cravings

I'm 10 days post-op and on a full liquid diet. Yesterday I went to 2 family Christmas parties (but took it really easy). The food I wanted most was pizza. Luckily I was able to get away from it and enjoy visiting with people instead. It's surprising that I'm not starving like I thought I'd be.
  8. Hi, there! Sorry to hear about your frustration. I am 10 days post-op and (like you) had a hernia repair. I was only on clear liquids for 3 days. Unfortunately, the choices at that stage are pretty limited. It will soon be behind you, though, and you'll be in the liquid stage and have alot more choices. It might help you to try some different types of unsweetened kool-aid and add as little or as much sweetener as you like. I know it is hard right now, but it will get better!
  9. I was wondering if your stomach still growls after the VSG. I currently have the band and my stomach growls so loud, it's embarrassing! (Especially in church!) Does that still happen post surgery?
  10. Hi, I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad. I saw my surgeon (final pre-op) and he said to take omeprazole (anti acidic medication) and Maalox to prevent the pain you're experiencing. I hope it will help you!

    Any December Sleevers?

Hi! I'm having my surgery on Dec. 9th. They are also removing my old lap band and fixing a hiatal hernia. Hopefully recovery won't be too horrible, but I am planning ahead just in case--making sure all of my Christmas stuff is done before surgery. My pre-op diet starts the day after Thanksgiving. I know it is alot to go through, but I am confident that it will be worth it!
  12. Hi, gang! I was wondering if you get gas alot post- surgery. I have been told that it can be very odiferous (stinky) after regular gastric bypass and I was hoping it wouldn't be true for the VSG.

    Got Gas?

Thanks for the info! I am having surgery in December and am trying to get information on the importand stuff ! Your posts are such a help, Tiffykins!
  14. I am having surgery in December and will start the pre-op diet in November. Right now I am having a terrible time because I can't seem to stop eating sweets. It is like I'm on death row and am having my last meal! Have any of you gone through this? I have had the Lap Band and did very well until I developed a hiatal hernia. Now I have to have the hernia repaired, the Band removed and then a VSG done. I guess I am worried about the surgery and I'm comforting myself with food. Any feedback?

    Eating my head off!

Thanks, everyone! You are a compassionate group and I appreciate your words of comfort and encouragement. We will all get through this together!
  16. Hi, Vicki! I'm 53 and my surgery is scheduled for Dec. 9th. I'm a bit anxious about it because they are doing a hernia repair, band removal and VSG. My doctor and nutritionist have told me that the recovery will be longer than for the band. Bummer, LOL! I'm sure it will be worth it, though. I am eating like no tomorrow, but am told that it's pretty normal. Low ca...

    Eating my head off!

I think having the Lap Band has helped me to understand a bit more about the dietary changes, but it is still scary to think about having something so permanent done. I am convinced, though, that this is the best option for a lifetime tool that will help me control my diabetes. Thanks for your comment!
  18. I have gone to Puget Sound Surgical Center in Edmonds, WA (it's a little north of Seattle). Dr Landerholm has done my Lap Band and is going to revise it to a VSG. He does a great job and has a wonderful bedside manner!

    "Cure" for diabetes?

Thank you Cheri! I am so site challenged, it will take me awhile to get the hang of posting and replying. Just know that I'm working on it!
  20. Hi, Everyone! This is my first post and I am wondering how many of you have "cured" your diabetes since having the sleeve. How long did it take?
