Oatmeal, farina, cream of wheat?
goldngrll replied to JustBreathe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It wasnt allowed for me, till the mushies stage...and definitely not pre op!! pre op you're trying to shrink your liver to make surgery safer.... to be honest though, I wouldnt even bother with either of these...there are much better higher Protein options out there, like cottage cheese or greek yogurt...the more you limit your processed carbs, the more results you'll see! hang in there!! it gets better!!! I was banded on July 1, and am down about 100 lbs...while the banded life aint a bed of roses, I'd do it again in a heart beat!!! -
hi, since you just recently got banded, and are still healing, you prolly dont have any Fluid in your band, or very little, so you're not getting much restriction. this is why you're getting hungry. it may take a few fills to get you to the point where the hunger is satiated.....hang in there! while the previous snack suggestions are healthy, what is going to keep you full longer is Protein. you need to make sure you have Snacks on hand that are protein rich. I love cottage cheese with soy crisps, nuts, Peanut Butter......greek yogurt is packed full of protein, and you can always add Protein powder to your shakes, and yogurts......I actually add a scoop of protein powder and a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter to my shakes, and it really keeps me full for a long time... take care!

YES!! its blue raspberry, and its great!! pricey but I love it!!!! I make it an after gym reward! to be honest tho...I know the Protein is there, but it doesnt fill me up much, like when I make a shake with the eas mix, the protein powder, the pbutter, and banana, but a really nice change!>.. -

HELP Liquid Diet!!!!!!
goldngrll replied to kelhough's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I was banded on July 1st, and have lost about 100 lbs so far....hang in there, YOU CAN DO THIS!! more importantly..you NEED TO DO THIS...the pre op liquid diet is to shrink your liver, and make your surgery safer..the post op is to let your body heal...seriously...it aint pretty, but you need to do this...birighter days are coming! so... I do basically 2 shakes...(still) I like the EAS shakes..great Protein, low carb, you can get them at bjs... now I get the choc. ones, but I really like the strawberry.. I also do te EAS Protein powder... so for the choc ones, I use a shake a scoop of powder, a half banana, and a scoop of pbutter...(yum) I also do a berry variation a scoop of vanilla powder, a splash of v8 splash, some frozen berries, and a few scoops of greek yogurt, or an eas shake...you can mix it up by changing the flavors, but make sure to keep it hi protein..it will keep you fuller longer..... I would do this again in a heartbeat...it aint perfect, but its the best option out there! -
hi, I was wondering if any of you have had your port replaced with the low profile port?? Mine really sticks out, and I'm not done losing...was wondering what anyone's experiences were with the procedure, and is it worth it? thanks!
-
THAT is crayzee. and it is crayzee that he doesnt know why, even under flouro.....my initial thought was a leak, perhaps in the port or tubing, but before I let him place another band, I would want another opinion....did he remove all of the fluid to make sure it was really in the band?
-
hi, I did, but this is not a magic wand, or the easy way out!! I lost 50 lbs pre op, and I spend about 2 hrs a day at the gym most days. this is just a tool, and you have to work the tool. Usually folks who have a lot to lose can lose quicker initially. I started out at 366 lbs. I wasnt aiming for a certain weight loss, just to develop good habits and routines...that has to be your goal. you didnt get overweight in 6 months, and its not realistic to think your problems will be solved in that time....it is all behaviour modification with the band...meaning you have to change what and how you eat, and how you move. baby steps!

Foods you eat/don't eat?
goldngrll replied to sawyer77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sounds like you need an unfill?? I mean, most of us avoid breads, etc, but if you are eating mostly soft foods, then you need an unfill....you should be able to eat solid hard Proteins and not get stuck... you dont want to risk slippage or erosion! -
Intense hunger 5mos after banded. What the heck?!
goldngrll replied to making.a.change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi! there are lots of things that effect your band....it is a Fluid thing, so as you lose weight, and your body changes, or you get sick or have your cycle, yeah, the band can get tighter or looser. it sounds like you need another fill though...I would start there, and yes, get rid of your carbs, and up the Protein. -
Questions to ask surgeon
goldngrll replied to jblady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, I have been banded since July and have lost about 100 lbs (50 pre op). I love my band!! I think the most important part of the surgery though is the aftercare....you need to understand what types of things are emergencies (vomiting, too tight, etc) and how to reach him. you need support groups, and nutritional counseling to understand how your new way of eating will be....this is not a "diet". you need to know their policies on fills and unfills (are they going to make you wait after initial healing times, etc???) probably most importantly, you need to understand the pre and post op diets, and you have to stick to it. there are reasons for it!! you would typically go on a liquid diet pre op to shrink your liver to make surgery easier and safer. yeah , kind of important, dont cheat. post op, your body is healing....you need to let it rest so stick to your surgeons guidelines....... and mostly you have to have realistic expectations and understand what the band is. It is only a tool...you still have to do the work here....I am at the gym for 2 hours a day most days...yeah, not the easy way out at all.....not trying to discourage you, but you need to understand what banded living really is....its a great tool, and it will work for you, but it aint always a bed of roses.....it is though, by far the safest option out there.... good luck! -
Dr. Arthur Glasgow - Dr. Arthur Glasgow is great!
goldngrll replied to Sue Magoo's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
hey, Cheryl! you're not far at all from me!! I pass by there prolly daily, lol!!! soo...no..no nausea...they load you up with all kinds of anti nausea meds...what I did have was pain in my shoulder which passed pretty quickly..they said that was from the anesthesia, and they also inflate your abdomen with gas, so they have room to do the surgery....I was walking around that day. it really wasnt a big deal for me, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.... banded living aint a bed of roses, but realistically, it was the best and safest option. its amazing to me how I dont get hungry, and get really full on a small amount of food.....you have to work at it, though, it is only a tool. I also go to the gym for about 2 hours a day most days, so believe me, this is not the easy way out! stay in touch with Adam, go to support, and work your tool...you'll do great!! here's adam's email addy adam@massweightloss.com and here's mine: goldngrll@yahoo.com feel free to get in touch anytime!! do you have kids?? if so, you prolly have seen me at the playgrounds....crayzee lookin redhead (well not so crayzee lookin anymore, lol) with triplets plus one...usually chasing some child around the playground, lol!! -
your surgeon should load you up automatically with anti nausea meds...I had no nausea, and really not much pain at all...to be honest, the surgery was no big deal....but since you are going through all of this, make sure you take care of your band!! keep in touch with your surgeons, go to support, stick to your post op diet....if you at all feel like you are too tight, or are vomiting, do not wait!! a good lap band surgeon should be available to see you first before even an er in the event of an emergency.....
-
seriously...if you are vomiting at all, contact your surgeon.....this is not normal, and can turn into an emergency. when you vomit, your stomach is contracting, and can cause your band to slip or erode. Neither of these is a good thing. that being said....that is not the normal case for the surgery. everyone is different. I've been banded since July, and have lost about 100 lbs. This is by far the best decision I have made for myself, and I'd do it again in a second. Banded living is not perfect, mind you, some times, well, its a royal PIA, but it is by far the safest of the bariatric surgeries, and it does work. if you work it. if your surgeon hasnt given you nutritional guidelines, you should see a nutritionist if you dont know how you should be eating. Basically you need to live a low carb, high Protein lifestyle. Since you've just been banded though, you need to stick to that post op liquid diet, and let your body heal...you will not be in this place forever!

Dr. Arthur Glasgow - Dr. Arthur Glasgow is great!
goldngrll replied to Sue Magoo's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
HI!!! I was scanning posts and I saw Norton!! I live on S. Worcester st... I was banded in July by Adam, and simply put, I think he is PHENOMENAL. I am down about 100 lbs (lost 50 pre op) and am appily at a good fill level....I am really loving my band!! I have emailed Adam, seriously, and had him email me back minutes later, and when I had a problem, he insisted I get in there that day no matter what time, he waited for me... EVERYONE in that practice has been phenomenal, and there is soo much support...both doctors have been on staff at Norwood hospital for many, many years....Arthur was chief of surgery for many years, and has been there for close to 40 yrs, and I believe Adam has been there for at least 20.... Adam did my surgery alone as far as I know, I didnt see Arthur that day...to be hones, I prefer going to Adam...he's a little nutty, so he doesnt look at me like I'm nuts like Arthur does, lol...havent had any bad experiences or anything, and I would see him if I needed to... -
Foods you eat/don't eat?
goldngrll replied to sawyer77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 100 lbs down in 6months or so.....here's what I eat.... Protein shakes (eas choc, add 1/2 banana, scoop peanut butter) cottage cheese w/sea salt soy crisps (hood full fat chive..yum!) salads I make homemade chili about every other week eggs cheeses (I keep babybels around for the hungries) nuts (planters nut trition pre portioned packs) I love roasting edamame, and chick peas...very addictive! I avoid pastas and breads (unless I am frying my eggs in arnolds high protein slice, runny yoke) primarily protein and veg....not very much red meat I love this website....(go to the bottom and click home for more recipes) and this particular recipe is good...I use ground turkey and extra spinach... hang in there!! http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/burger_scramble_florentine.html -
ditto....would do it again in a heartbeat!! down 100 lbs in 6 months....wish I also had done it sooner!
-
I was wondering that same thing...how DID you get it covered???
-
I got really stuck on scrambled eggs, too......I tend to do fried with runny yokes now.....good protein!!! oh, I had a deviled egg over the holidays, and that worked out pretty well....
-
Like Indiogirl said... this is just a tool...this is not the case where "the surgery is doing the work for you" that is an illusion. You. have to work this. I have lost about 100 lbs in 6 months. I have a very good friend banded longer (a lot longer) than I, who has lost almost nothing. Y? I go to the gym 2 hrs a day 5 days a week. I eat Protein first....then veggies and salad. I stop eating by 5pm. I go to support groups, keep in touch w/ my dr, and kept getting fills (and an unfill) till I got where 3 meals do the trick, and I am not hungry. I cut waaaaaaay down on alcohol. I dont eat sweets. so what do I eat?? hmm.....salads, cottage cheese, soy crisps, homemade healthy chilis and Soups. seafood. veggies. very little red meat. Protein shakes. nuts. Peanut Butter....I keep healthy snax around (the cottage cheese and soy crisps are my fav!!! ) but also heart healthy nut packs, baby bell cheeses, EAS shakes......I cook at the beginning of the week to make sure there is something around for me to grab quick, because if I get starving, it isnt good.....eggs are also good protein, and have gotten a bad wrap.....hang in there!! You have to make a decision to put yourself back on the map. its really as easy as that, and no one is busier than I am. I have triplet 3 yr olds, a 5 yr old, and no outside help. My youngest son also has a disability so throw in many hours of appts, and therapies every week, and I still get myself to the gym. its all about priorities......!!!
-
ditto what the above posters wrote...you are too tight, and if you wait too long you are risking A. dehydration B. Erosion C. Slippage. ALL. BAD. and it all hurts like heck.
-
just because that fill worked for you 7 months ago, doesnt mean its the right fill for you now!!! I would re assess and speak with your dr..perhaps its time for a fill, and get back to a high protein diet!! I dont have to tell you about exercising, but getting rid of the hungries and back on track with your eating will help motivate you... hang in there!
-
hi, great job on your weight loss!!! hey, it actually sounds like you might be too tight....have you told your doctor you cant eat meat, and it gives you pain?? you should be able to eat most Proteins and veggies..I cant do chicken...I have problems with carbs, but thats prolly a good thing!! I am down about 100 lbs in about 6 months.....I eat primarily Protein and salads.....I make chilli with ground turkey, eat a lot of seafood, cottage cheese, soy crisps........drink a lot of milk and Water.....over the holidays I hung out with the shrimp cocktail.....lol..... you dont want to mess with being too tight...be careful!
