Bubblebutt: Just had to say thanks for the slaw recipe, made it today, put it thru my salad shooter for the right size pieces, worked perfect, took it to church and it was gone in seconds, the small bowl I left at home is gone to, teenagers got to it. Laurend: I'm going to try your vinegar slaw tomorrow, It sounds awfully good too. Thanks. Everyone else: keep the recipes coming, I love to cook for church, friends, family, etc.

I get my band on March 20th and was wondering what kind of restrictions you were given and for how long. As in lifting, house cleaning, driving, Etc. I need to be prepared and may need to arrange for some help with my granddaughter, I have three older kids 21,19,17 plus 3 younger foster children 14,13,6 at home to help, but what about when they are at school. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

AMRDMR, Congrats on your surgery date. Mine is the same day in Tj. with Dr. Huacuz. I also live in Wa, Eastern by Spokane. How about you?
-
Thanks so much. The baby weighs 16 lbs, I will definitely ask my doc.

I was wondering how long do we have to wait to have sex after surgery?
-
Congrats to you. Its wonderful to hear your having such a good recovery. Best wishes.

Davyna Thank you for your post. I forgot to say the granddaughter is only 6 months old. The two oldest are at college most of the day 8-4:30. I'm more concerned about when the younger ones are at school, and I'm alone with the baby, should I get someone to come in and help with her during the day. I have all my food and the kids meals for 3 weeks prepared and in the freezer so in that aspect I think I'm set. The laundry can be done by the kids and most of the cleaning but I'm kind of a clean freak. My oldest is going with me. We leave monday 3/19 and return friday night 3/23. My friend is staying with the others until I get back. My hubby will be home the weekend I get back ( he'll leave on monday3/26) but will that be enough time for me to care for the baby myself?

I don't know where you got that from. I said I GET my band March 20th.

Thanks Carol, We hope it to be a great success. He just turned 50, it was such a shock, he takes good care of himself, exercises, eats right, etc and for this to happen. I know they, my sister Sandi and Brother in law Tim will be going to Sturgis this yr also. Of course due to Tim's health they will take the motor home and leave their bikes at home.

My pre-op diet is only for 5 days. My BMI is like 54 so it really seemed odd to me. But I guess its really a doctor thing. I'd be interested in doing a poll and finding out how many days everyone had to be on a pre-op diet if they had one at all.

Sparkette, Tell you what I did. I got the idea from my PCP. I called several reputable Mexico Dr's and explained that I only had $7500.00 to spend and that my PCP had said if I didn't do something, I would be dead in 2 yrs. :clap2: I got a return call from one of the Dr's. I have to pay my own airfare but I got it from Spokane to San Diego for $150.00 RT on Priceline. which is normally closer to $400.00. I will stay a extra day for a hotel price of $45.00 per night which was normally $100.00+ per night. Best of luck

Hi All, Just thought it would be nice to get to meet some of you. I'm from the Spokane area. I'll be in the Everett/Marysville area April 28,29,30 for a Benefit poker run. Would love to get together for lunch, brunch, whatever. This is where I'll be the 29th. everyone is welcome. We are going to a Benefit Poker Run for stroke victim (my Brother-in Law) Tim Goodrich on April 29th. FYI: Tim does NOT know this Benefit Run is being put together for him! Hopefully we can all come together with our bikes, streetrods or daily drivers so that we can raise as much as we can to help him continue with the Re-Hab that is making a difference. He's nearing the one year mark since the stroke, although he has come a long way, there is still much that he can benefit from through continued Re-Hab. Hope you can be there, if not, we hope you will keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you Tim is a member of North Snohmish Co. chapter ABATE & N Cascade & Puget Sound HOG. Registration from 8 am to 10 am. Starts at Wellers Chalet exit 208 off I-5 (Arlington) ends at Granit Falls Eagles. Poker hands $5.00 per hand. All poker hands must be turned in at Granite Falls Eagles by 12 noon All bikes and vehicles must leave Wellers By 10 AM Silent auction at the Granite Falls Eagles 12 - 2 pm. AMEN But I couldn't take it and finally nailed my mom down and got to the root of the issue. It was that she is afraid of me dying. After hearing a story of her friend dying from stomach stapling, ( back in the late 60's) which I do remember hearing about but was young, I now understand. I'm in the process of educating her about the lap band. Maybe its kind of the same thing with your mom. I know when my mom gets a idea in her head its hard to change. Best of luck

You may not necessarily need surgery to remove extra skin. I have a few friends who didn't need any. They are young like you are, which makes the skin more elastic and more likely to shrink back. Of course they work out at the gym regularly. Best of luck.

What's the worst thing someone said to you?
amom replied to annieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most of us agree that when the comments are made we remember them like yesterday. I will always remember the day I was walking into WAL-MART. As a young thin woman walked past me, she paused and said, Slim-Fast is on sale in isle 5. I was mortified. My daughter was so mad she chased her down and told her a thing or two by starting with a comment (The woman couldn't get her items in her car fast enough.) about her teeth being crooked, her boobs two small, her feet two big, her cloths old and out of style, her butt was flabby, her nose to big, and other things as she thought of them, ending with (as the woman drove away), her car sounded like it couldn't make it around the block. I ofter wonder if the woman has thought about what was said and if it made a difference. -
Welcome Mary, I have surgery March 20th. I can't wait either.

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
amom replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wheetsin, You look fantastic. I find tears in my eyes knowing that I will soon (3/20) be blessed with the band. I know I will have much success. (positive attitude) I have lost 9 lbs since gearing up for the 5 day liquid stage. I've cut all breads and stick to liquids, proteins, and vegis. -
My mom has a hard time chewing the pieces of slaw that you would get normally from slicing so I put it thru the grinder that came with my kitchenaid mixer. I also found the magic bullet does a good job on carrots, of course your not going to do huge amounts with the bullet, it would take to long. Thanks for the recipes. Good luck

7 days postop to much protein?
amom replied to maya94115's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Go to the unjury website http://www.unjury.com/reg/calculator.shtml and use the protein calculator. -
:help: I was wondering what kind of vitamins to get. Pharmacy recommended liquid Centrum. Should I start taking them when I start my pre-op diet?

I fly Delta, They don't charge for the extra seat as some airlines do. They are very accommodating to work with. I call ahead and let them know I'm handicapped and their right on the ball. If you can board early (handicapped board first) it's much nicer, you can ask for a seat belt extension and you don't have everybody looking at you, like you have a sign on your head that says I'm Fat. Southwest is the worst for charging extra. United and Alaska are next in line. They give you a 17 in space to fit in and if you can't put the armrest down all the way you pay extra. Some even tell you they will charge extra when you go to check-in, and most of the time its by some little skinny young girl who has no clue what it's like to be heavy. Some airlines say they don't charge, unless someone complains your crowding them. Call the airline before booking and ask what their policy is. best of luck.
