How much have you lost July Butterfllies??
mrsjones0728 replied to lotzasunshine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! I am one week post op and I have lost 10 lbs! -
I was re-banded on the 14th, too. I don't have the shoulder pain though. I came back to work today and feeling pretty good :-) I go to the doc for follow up tomorrow. I gotta say I am looking forward to the liquid phase being over! Take care all!

I have such a large slip that I have to have my old band removed and replaced with a new more improved band. Has anyone had this happen to them?
-
Thanks for the responses! Starrgirrl, good luck with your surgery, too.
-
Cathy231- Thanks for your response. When you were re-banded, did you have to prep before surgery like the first time?

What happened to me: I had chronic heartburn for about 6 months. I really didn't think too much of it at first but then I ended up in the ER with chest pain. No heart attack; stress test and echo normal. Upper endoscopy showed the band was not positioned in the right place and some erosion. Barium swallow confirmed slipped band. I think the radiologist said it was the worst slip he has seen! Went to surgeon for unfill. He said that the slip was so bad, an unfill wouldn't resolve it. I am scheduled for removal and replacement on 7-14. I have gained all but 10 lbs back of the 56 lbs I lost. I am starting all over again :Angel_anim:

Liquid Diet Prior To Surgery
mrsjones0728 replied to frazzledmomof2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So on the preop liquid diet, what are we talking about in calories? About 1000? My doc wants me to do Optifast but it's $180 for two weeks...that's more than my regular grocery bill! I have soy protein powder at home that I was using when I would get a fill. I think I will ask if I can use that instead of Optifast. -
Hi Dawn, Congratulations on getting approved! For me, everything that is old is new again...LOL I am having my slipped Lapband removed and replaced on July 14th.

Anyone been re-banded since July 07 ??

That same thing happened to me in 2004----I had to just have my port replaced not the whole band though. -

Liquid Diet Prior To Surgery
mrsjones0728 replied to frazzledmomof2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just checking back in. I was banded 11/4/02, but due to mechanical failure (slippage), I am being banded again on 7/14/08. I have to do Optifast for 2 weeks prior to surgery which means Monday! I am quite nervous because when I was banded before I just had to follow 1000 cal per day for the week prior to surgery...so much has changed. -
Has anyone experienced a slipped band?
mrsjones0728 replied to kandiceb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Heartburn, but mine mimicked esophageal reflux really. I didn't have gut pain but jaw and chest pain from it. I ended up in the ER in December to be sure there was nothing wrong with my heart. I had a stress test on New Year's Eve! No cardiac issues though! Now, of course, I wish I had talked to the band doc when the heart burn first started and then I could have maybe avoided another surgery. Thanks for your good wishes! -
My doc is getting stuff in order so I can be re-banded. Initially, I lost 56 lbs and have PCOS w/insulin resistance.
-
are the chances good that all liquids for two weeks will fix the slippage?

Has anyone experienced a slipped band?
mrsjones0728 replied to kandiceb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have confirmation of a slipped band. Symptoms: bad heart burn and weight gain. Too much of my stomach is above the band. I have a friend who has a slipped band from persistent vomiting. Her's has slipped up so that she has a hard time keeping food down and she has gained back weight, too. I had an upper GI series and endoscopy to confirm. The doc totally unfilled my band and gave me my options: take out the band, replace the band or gastric bypass. I am opting for a new improved band since mine is almost 6 years old. -
I have confirmation from a barium swallow that I have a big slip. I have chronic heartburn and weight gain  They are unfilling my band tomorrow to see if that will correct the slip, if not, they will have to surgically correct. Just be aware, symptoms can be so different from person to person. If you don't feel right, call your doc.

I was hoping I could join, too. I was DX'd with PCOS in 1995 and IR in 1997. AFter 2 years of infertility treatments and no results, we gave up. My primary doc doesn't think it's necessary to treat PCOS

My band has slipped after 3 years of being banded
mrsjones0728 replied to Jessiebear's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There are a couple of reasons for my weight gain, but I suspect the biggest one is the slippage. My pouch is larger than it should be and not having it checked last year just made the weight gain worse. On top of that, a couple of years ago I underwent infertility treatment and gained about 25 lbs from the hormone injections. I am looking forward to getting back on track and getting this weight off once and for all. -
My band has slipped after 3 years of being banded
mrsjones0728 replied to Jessiebear's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi ....I haven't been on in a while now. I was banded 11/4/02. I didn't go for any fills last year since my insurance plan changed at work and no coverage for anything related to weight loss. In December, I had to go to the emergency room with chest pain. After a visit to the cardiologist, it's been determined that my pain was caused by chronic heartburn. I had an endoscopy this week and the doc said I have some minor erosion and probable slippage. They are setting up the barium swallow to determine how bad the slippage is. The doc said I had too much gastric tissue above my band :smile2: Originally, I had lost about 60 lbs but now I have gained back 40 of those and only down 20 lbs. Any advice before I go for the barium test? Should I just do liquids to see if that helps? -
I was down to 212 which was a 50 lb loss but I have regained. I had no insurance coverage for fills since 1/1/07. I had a 3.8cc fill in December. I am sure that has all evaporated by now. What happened? Failed infertility treatments, depression....I can't afford to pay out of pocket for fills so I have this tool I can't use.
-
Just checking in since I haven't been here in a while. Haven't had a fill since 12/8/06 :-( and now I am 5 yrs out from surgery and back where I started.
-
Not even sure if I belong in this group anymore. I was banded nearly 5 years ago and down about 40 lbs. I have gained 20 lbs in the two years. My insurance plan changed and didn't cover any services related to bariatric surgery so I haven't had a fill in 6 months :-( I did get back to exercising after knee surgery in December 2006, so I think I'm getting back on track here. Please help me!

The scale hates on me....I've been stuck since July
-
I haven't done as well as I had hoped I would. I had to have my port replaced in 2004. I am happy that even though I haven't lost as much weight as I wanted to this point (I haven't given up), I have kept it off:clap2: Please don't let my failure to lose oodles of weight, hold you back.
