    Feeling Shaky

Wow Joonbug, lucky you for being able to take 6 weeks off. I'm only off for 2 weeks and then back in the full swing of things:mellow:. I am 9 days post op now and I got the shaky feeling at about day 4. By day 5, I couldn't eat another popsicle or jello. I called my doctor and they gladly advanced me to stage 2!! That was the highlight of my week....grits and cream soup never tasted sooo good. I'm still on stage 2 and just discovered some more foods to try. Otherwise, I was gonna call the doc again to see how soon I could go to stage 3. I'm glad I found some foods to hold me over bcuz I don't wanna rush it and cause problems.

    surgery done Monday

Sorry you're having a hard time but it sounds like you need good old tylenol right about now. You're 3 days out and you can expect to still have some soreness. Also, the shoulder pain is gas pain and it comes along with the ride.... I used Gas X strips and it helped alot with the gas pain. On day 3 I was on clear liquids and I wasn't hungry. But my mouth missed chewing and it missed the flavor of food. I can't speak like a real pro bcuz I was only banded one week ago. Hope this helps a little

  4. Hi Msdeneen!! You're band date was close to mines (8-18-10) and I'm trying to get to know other August bandsters...and I'm feeling the sista hood on your visitor messages :-D And yes, the clear liquids phase was killin me!! No, I mean really...I had diarrhea and if I put another jello or popsicle in my mouth, I would've lost my mind. Thank God my doc advanced me to stage 2!! Good luck to you!

    I just got banded...

BTW, I agree with KPgrll... Most docs will not give any fill at all when the band is 1st applied. You have swelling from the foreign object and they wanna make sure that goes down 1st. Most people don't even need a fill and aren't hungry immediately post-op.

    I just got banded...

Wow, he told you to take tylenol one day post-op?? That's so bogus!! My patients who have less invasive surgery than lap-bands get sent home on much better stuff than that. (I'm a nurse). That was one of my pre-op questions...."How will my pain be managed afterwards?" I was banded on 8-18-10 and I had a hernia repair too. I had a one day overnight stay with a morphine PCA pump. I wasn't discharged until 9pm the next night and was sent home with prescriptions for tylenol with codeine and prilosec. I couldn't imagine getting through the pain without it. I know that feeling of breathing and hurting with every breath. That happened to me too the 2nd night when I went to sleep without pain meds. Also, why did he have you "break up" tylenol immediately after surgery?? Maybe u should suggest he tell his patients to take elixirs and not pills!! But I'm glad the doc found a medical reason for your discomfort and he knows it wasn't anxiety! He sounds like he needs to attend some seminars on management of post-op bariatric patients. It might change his plan of care!

This site is sooo helpful and so empowering!! When I have my moments ( I'm sure I will) I'm going to seek threads like this and take good advice, there's plenty on here!
  8. Green puss sounds like something you wanna call the Doc about! Does it have an odor, and do you have a fever?? Good luck, and let a doctor take a look at it!

    Anyone doing their pre-op diet???

Sorry I'm so late to reply. I worked 3 nights in a row before my big day in order to have 2 weeks off. I was told I could go back in one week if it didn't involve heavy lifting, or pulling. I am going back in 2 weeks and I'll ask to be put on a unit that is usually lighter than the other units. No one likes to work there either so it shouldnt be a problem. Good luck every one! I'm 3 days post-op and doing as expected!

I agree with the other posts...Look for another doctor to do your fills stat!! If possible, try to find a doctor who does it under flouroscopy. That way, they'll be able to see if you have proper restriction as they're doing it and put the appropriate amount of fluid in. I'm sorry to hear tha you're having a hard time but now that you have the band, you have to find a way to make it work for you. You have to make the band do what it was intended to do. Give you restriction so you can control the amount you eat!! So don't be discouraged and give up....YOU CAN'T DO THAT NOW!! You just have to get empowered and make that band work...after you find another doc!! GOOD LUCK!!

    HELP failed surgery

I would get a second opinion but not allow another physician to operate. Just tell another doctor about the "boggy floppy" stomach thing and see what he/she recommends. There may be some validity to what the 1st doc said. Keep in mind that everyone is different
  13. Hi! Sorry you feel that way, but it does get better (so I hear). I'm on day 9 of my pre-op diet and I actually feel great and it's surprising. But, my doctor does a modified liquid diet. He has me taking 2 protein shakes and a meal per day. The meal is protein and veggies. So far, so good. In fact, it made me feel like I can do it even longer than 2 weeks!! Hang in there, it'll be worth it!
  14. Hello!! Yes, I am very excited!! I am on day 10 of my pre-op diet and to my surprise, I feel great!! My doctor does a modified liquid diet, he allows us to have one meal a day along with the 2 protein shakes.

    August rush 2010!!!

Hello!! I'm also fairly new to this site. My band date is August 18th and I'm doing my preop diet now. I feel much better than I expected, I'm not hungry and I don't feel fatigued. I think the protein shakes are making all the difference by keeping me full. My starting weight is 278, I'm 5'10 and my BMI is 40.

    Anyone doing their pre-op diet???

By the way, I joined this site a few months ago but never posts....I just looked around.... Now I'm 9 days away from my band date and I'll do better being interactive. Besides, I need all the info from other bandsters I can get....
  17. Ok bandsters, this is my testimony. I'm what I call a "recent fatty". I started gaining weight 9 yrs ago. For some reason, I decided not worry about my health. I stopped exercising and started eating foods I had never eaten...I call that my rebellion...Except, I don't know what the heck I was rebelling from.:mellow:Now, I'm 34 yrs old, 5ft 10in at 278lbs, bmi 40 and my band date is 8/18/10! :thumbup:I have 3 co-workers who have the band, 2 of them are not happy with it, one loves it. The band is the perfect option for me bcuz I'm a "power eater". I eat about twice a day but super-large portions...if I was a "grazer", I would've chosen the bypass. (I'm glad I'm the power eater bcuz the bypass scares me).

Anyhow, I look forward to my band journey!!

  18. chubbynurse

    Just starting the journey

    Good luck!!
