    Public restroom stalls!

We will be able to fit into those stalls made for ultra thin super models?! Oh yeah!! No more handicapped stalls for me soon!

    Got the Jitters

If you mean by "diet", watching what and how much you eat then yes. You won't be able to gorge on a banana split or a load of wings. You will have to eat small meals. I've started weighing my food so I get 2 oz. of meat, 1/2 cup of starch (rice or potatoes) and 1 cup of vegetable (assuming I can find one I actually like). My snacks consist of fresh fruit or sugar free pudding and I try to keep it to two a day. Not easy right now since I'm not banded and I keep getting hungry. I hope it will be easier afterward. Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as a healthy lifestyle because it IS a lifestyle change.

    Got the Jitters

I haven't had the surgery done but it probably depends on how you react to those things. You will probably be able to eat them just not near as much as you used to. Ask your doctor. He will have the answer. Just remember, you CAN have the band removed but more than likely you will gain back what you lost and maybe then some. This is a life-changing event. Do you want to be healthy? Do you want to look and feel great? The band can only do so much. You have to want to make the change to healthier foods (you may not even want to eat those after the band!) You want stop eating, you'll just be eating healthier.

Pressing play for a life on hold.

Ahhh, parents. That is why my father will not know until after I have the surgery. When I was a teen, he told me that I could be really pretty if I just lost some weight. Then he told me I would look slimmer if I just stood up straight. He also told Mom one day, "Why don't you just slap that on your hips? That's where it's going anyway." Now he's probably around 300 pounds and looks like hell. Let me tell you what I am anxious about. I'm worried that I'm going to fail, that I will gain back what I lose and then some or I won't lose at all. I'm not worried about surgery. The mortality rates are extremely low. Getting this done will be the greatest thing for us. I can remember the one time in life I was skinny. I had confidence, I felt great. And guess what, it's going to be that way again. Keep the course! You're doing great!
  5. You ARE a success story! And an inspiration! Keep up the great work!

Delays are aggravating. Glad to hear things are back on track.

What kind of vitamins do you take?

Cars vitamins or Nemo. I hate adult vitamins (even the gummy ones). The kids vitamins just taste so much better.

    May 10th

Not on May 10th but I'm scheduled for May 5th.
  11. It's very normal. My hubby is Coast Guard and I've been working out at the gym for years. Can't seem to lose the weight. I recently lost a cousin to heart disease at a young age. It was the kicker for me. I'm both scared and excited. I'm looking forward to a healthier me but I'm afraid of the steps it's going to take. I need to be strong. Don't be ashamed. You're thinking of your health and your kids. You want to be around for them.

    I can't believe I'm doing this!!!

Welcome to the forums! You'll get lots of support here.
  13. My surgeon sent my info to Tricare yesterday. I'm waiting on approval now. If I get it, my surgery is scheduled for May 5th. Hubby has appeal letters waiting in case they deny me (he worries about things more than I do).

A time for rebirth....Spring and Me

    Congratulations!
  16. 1. I'd like to see my cholesterol go down. I've also started noticing knee and ankle problems. I'd like those to go away. I want to be able to keep up with my now 2 year old. I have aunts that went through knee and hip surgery. Both are overweight. I had an uncle and a grandfather die from major heart attacks in their 50's. I just had a cousin die over Christmas. She was very overweight and so is sister so has diabetes. I really don't want any of that to happen to me. 2. I'd love to be 140 pounds but will be satisfied with 150-160. 3. I can remember when I was a healthy weight. I had a lot of confidence in myself then and would like it back. I wasn't afraid of having my picture taken then either.

    Yeah -

Congratulations! I'm in the same boat. I'm scheduled for May 5th and am waiting on insurance approval. I should know by the end of the week.

    Emotionally Tied to Food

Pardon me for saying so, but if your friends are keeping you from being healthy then they aren't really friends. Your true friends will support you and those who drop you never really were your friends to begin with.
  20. My most embarrassing moment happened years ago when I was still in the military. I was showing a journalist around and when we got on board a boat, I heard my pants rip. I have a habit of buying clothes a size too small figuring it will motivate me to lose weight. Well, I had to spend the day with a rip on my rear. Sadly, it wasn't enough to convince me I needed help.
  21. Congratulations to you! I hate when no one listens. I had that problem with a doctor several years ago. Told him I was depressed and it was affecting my menstrual cycle. He wouldn't believe me. My depression passed (thankfully without medical help) and my body righted itself. Sounds like you have a great nutritionist!

    calling insurance

I hate having to call people but just pick up the phone and say "I was wondering where I stand with this." It's polite and may get them moving knowing that you are keeping track of their progress (or lack thereof).

    Second Thoughts????

I certainly understand the fear. I've gotten so used to being overweight that I'm comfortable with it, sort of. I hate having my picture taken and I despise mirrors but I'm afraid to change. Yet here I am waiting on approval and scheduled for surgery. What I do is try to remember how I felt the times I weighed less. How confident I felt. And I try to think of my son who's 2. How he will feel when Mommy can keep up with him and be around for him. Fear is natural but we can't keep it from controlling us or we will never move forward.

    Newbie from New Jersey

Welcome to the boards. I'm new here myself and am just waiting on insurance to approve the surgery. It's scheduled for May 5. It's nice to meet other Jersey people.

    Parents...

I refuse to tell my dad. I will tell him after the surgery, most likely when I see him next in August. I really don't need his comments. I find them hypocritical or way off mark. He hates doctors and thinks everything can be done without ever seeing one. I don't think he will understand.
