Weight Watchers Online: Support Thread
Rsilversea replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I actually lost 2 pounds this week. I've been sick and haven't felt like cooking. The only thing that tasted good is ice cream. I have a horrid sore throat. In an effort to not sabotage my efforts though, I ate WW ice cream (but I still manage to eat the entire box--won't be doing that again soon). Hopefully this sickness goes away soon. I hate looking like I'm testing my Halloween costume (I have pink eye in both eyes). -
It sounds to me like you need to see a psychiatrist and work out your food addiction. Until you do, nothing is going to help you with your weight loss.

Exercise Ideas
Rsilversea replied to LoserHeather37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently bought a bike. I like the alone time I get riding and seeing the different sights along the way. I will say that I don't enjoy headwinds though but the majority of my rides make up for it. I find it a lot better than riding on stationary cycles at the gym but I do like doing the elliptical machine (which isn't so hard on knees). If you're not interested in biking, just go out and walk for 15 minutes. Find a nice walking trail in your area and you may find that your 15 minutes was a lot longer. -
Successful Surgery
Rsilversea replied to LadyInBlack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my next appointment in a couple of weeks. Surgery went pretty easy for me and recovery was even better. I'm back on regular food but now I have to learn to eat better. I keep eating too much. I will see what happens when I see my doctor next. Glad your went well. -
Another western New Yorker! My school used to play your school in sports. I went to Byron-Bergen Central.

Wish I didn't have to journal but I find if I don't write everything down, I gain weight. Better to deal with a little inconvenience. I had meeting today and was surprised to find I had lost .5 pounds. I've been eating like a horse since I've been able to get back to mostly normal eating. -
My Lap-band decision
Rsilversea replied to hope@50plus's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tricare just changed their policy to BMI so you might want to check out their policy again. I don't know the specifics on the new policy but my husband (who works at a medical clinic) just told me that they had changed it (about two weeks after I had my surgery). -
Feeling depressed over this whole Tricare thing
Rsilversea replied to FattyCakes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I understand that Tricare just changed their standards and go by BMI. Might want to check into it if you can. -
Why SF Jello and Popsicles?

Sugar turns into fat. I lost a good amount of weight just cutting out the sugar. -

Yep, they are normal. Things will improve rapidly though. -

Well, got back from my meeting. They were trying to get me to pay for the week I missed. I don't think they liked it when I said I couldn't make it because of doctor's orders but they didn't make me pay. The meeting was huge this time. All the retirees are back from Florida or coming down from Philadelphia for the summer. Couldn't wait to get out of there. No one would shut up and it was hard to hear the leader (even though I was in the front row). -
I try to stay away from staples. I think they'd hurt if you swallow them.

Sex after surgery?

You'd probably be best asking your doctor that question. He has a pretty good idea about how you're healing. -

Still here. I'm going to my first post-op WW meeting Friday. Gonna tell them I had my gall bladder out last week (to excuse my absence). I HAVE had my gall bladder out but that was almost two years ago. Been wanting an egg salad sandwich but I'm almost there. Pureed for the next few days then I can move on to minced and soft. Started drinking my son's chocolate milk and I'm going to have to wean me off it again (drat, I love that stuff). -
So long as you aren't driving, you should be fine. Besides, you need to get out and walk.

Get enough vitamins, broth, jello for as long as you will be on liquids. Definitely make sure you have enough water and protein drinks. Don't forget your medication. You will need this to keep comfortable. Even if you don't need it during the day, be sure to take some before bed so you can rest. Unfortunately, you will probably have to get it the day after surgery (get whatever the doc prescribes). I wasn't real hungry for the first couple of days so I ended up with more broth and Jello than I needed (and wanted ever to see again).

Completely understand! Was craving an egg salad sandwich today for lunch and I don't know if the grocery store will let me in after what I tried to do to the Jello section!

7 days post op and I am STRUGGLING !!
Rsilversea replied to ashbuch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why does everyone worry about their damned weight so soon after surgery?! Wait until you heal first! Yes, the liquid diet sucks! I have also discovered that if I ever see Jello again I will vomit. Talk to your doctor. Find out what else you can possibly eat. Me, I can eat about 1/2 cup of something and not be hungry. I'm almost a week out from surgery but I would definitely like to eat something else other than liquids. You can do this but it will be a struggle. -
When I got out of surgery, the first thing my husband said was "You just got banded. How come you haven't lost any weight?" Yes, we tease each other because we think that posters who worry about not having lost weight since being banded one, two or three weeks ago are being, how shall I put this, block-headed (or at the very least were not informed). I know you hurt. I was banded June 15th. I want to eat real food not liquids or mushies. I'm still getting rid of my gas. I can feel the damned port and it makes it difficult to sleep. I too question sometimes (usually when tired and sore) if this was the right answer. Believe me. It will get better. You just had surgery. HEAL FIRST! Weight loss, later.

Do you update your weight loss in a ticker/program/website/app for each pound?
Rsilversea replied to HolliJ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I update my ticker and I keep track on my calendar (where I also keep track of my goal weight for each week). -

My head is still trying to deal with the liquids stage. I was so excited to go back to full liquids this morning that I gulped my first taste of Carnation Instant Breakfast. Had to remind myself to slow down. I went back to logging my points today (and also use FitDay). I'm not weighing myself for another 3 weeks just to let myself heal. I figure I'll lose weight due to the liquids stage but will start to gain some with mushies. I think I'm still swollen with IV liquids. My mom's wedding rings, which had been a little loose prior to surgery, are a smidge tight. I just keep a picture of a dress I want to wear to a wedding up on my computer screen to remind me where I want to be. -
Frustrated - Tricare!!
Rsilversea replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Not much I can offer except DON'T gain the weight! It's not worth it. Tricare (which is woefully behind the times) is in the process of changing their policy. I don't know when they will change it but when they do, you can always re-apply. -
Depressed, is this normal after surgery ?
Rsilversea replied to Houstontx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The medication that they pumped into you can cause you to be depressed. Also being on a liquid diet that long can do things to your mind. I can't tell you that things will get better as I was just banded Tuesday but by reading other posts, I am optimistic.
