  1. So, last Friday, I met some friends at a bar after work. It was a last minute thing, so I didn't have any protein shakes with me. I had a couple of drinks and people started ordering bar food... I ate some of it. I could have gone on to "mushies" that day, so I legitimized my chewing the food really well. I haven't eaten anything but liquids since, but I can't let it go. I'm so afraid I screwed something up. I feel fine, but the guilt is killing me! I guess I'm looking for someone to tell me to get over it. I can't do anything about it now!
  2. No way! I'm only a week and a half out and I LOVE it! You have no idea what a relief it is to know that you CAN'T overeat the way you used to. It has been amazing. It's scary to think about... but it's much scarier before (and thinking about it constantly) than it is after... trust me. Don't be scared
  3. Erin, I know you must be totally frustrated. It sounds like you are really stressed out with school and graduation. Try to look at the positive side-- you already have the band in! you've lost 40 lbs! Sooo... once you get a fill you'll be back in action. Maybe ask your doctor if you can set up some sort of payment plan for the bill. Then, you can pay it off in small doses. What do you think? Until then, take a deep breath, and give yourself a break! You're doing great :scared2:

    4th of July Challenge!

I added myself to the spreadsheet! I'm going for 25 lbs... hopefully it'll be more

    4th of July Challenge!

I want to join!! But I need help on deciding what's a reasonable goal! I just had surgery May 3rd... any suggestions? My BMI right now is 39... Is 40 lbs too much to go for? Probably...
  6. I've been having this side ache pain on my left side when I take deep breaths for the last couple of days. I had surgery on Monday. Has anyone else had this? Is this still the "gas" pains? I don't have any left shoulder pain. Could this be my version of it? haha. Is this normal?!

    very BLOATED!!!!!

Neyad- How long did it take for your bloating to go away? I'm day 5 and I can't stand the bloating. I've been walking around quite a bit, but I haven't been going on designated "walks". Any light at the end of the tunnel? When will I feel normal again?? haha.
  8. Okay, I have TWO important questions here. 1) I had surgery on Monday, and I am moving to San Francisco on June 15th (I'm in southern california now). Does anyone know of someone who takes new patients?? 2) Since I am moving up basically right AT the 6 week mark, what should I do? Should I have my current doctor give me my first fill, or should I wait until I get up there so I can have all my fills with the same doctor? What should I do???
  9. Sooo... I had surgery on Monday (it's now Wednesday). Saturday until today, I was on purely clear liquids. I weighed myself this morning and I haven't lost ONE pound. Is that just because I'm still all bloated and puffy from the surgery? Was it dumb for me to weigh myself so soon?? Will it start to come off again?? I'm probably just being impatient...
  10. Sashay02!! I am TOTALLY in the same position as you! I'm turning 26 on the 28th of this month AND i just had my surgery Monday. My family is insane with the parties and the DRINKING. Only my parents know about the surgery, so I'm hoping I won't have to see anyone until the "solids" phase. haha. PLUS, my soon to be mother-in-law is basically Julia Child and cooks a feast EVERY SINGLE TIME we go home to visit. I'm afraid she'll be offended when I only eat like two bites. haha. Anyway, if you need a friend, message me!! I need some more people my age to talk to :bored: Plus... I live in Riverside!
  11. Hey guys! I'm feeling about the same as all of you! Although, I want to burp more! haha... I feel like I need to, but can't always... when I do it feels pretty awesome. I just started on my protein shakes... I have NO appetite. Which is kinda great! Keep me posted :bored:
  12. With my surgery tomorrow, I am totally freaking out, too! I know I am doing the right thing, but I can't believe I'm having surgery in less than 24 hours... I definitely could use some words of encouragement!!

    Easy Way Out....

I had the same experience at work the other day! I was talking to a "friend" of mine... who probably has as much weight to lose as I do. She was saying how she lost 13 lbs in TWELVE weeks on WW. I've done that... and gained it all back with a couple of bad weekends. So, she started talking about another person we work with, who had gastric bypass. She thought she had the lap band. She was saying how she thinks she's a cheater, and how she's not even happy for her, and how she hopes her "band bursts". I was standing there, nodding, not saying anything. She has no idea I'm having surgery (tomorrow!). She started getting really emotionally charged when talking about how it's cheating and how she looked into it because her husband wanted it, and how it's totally ridiculous. It blew my mind, because she is in the same boat I am in. She really really needs to lose weight. It was weird how bitter she was about our co-worker. This is exactly why I only told my parents and two close friends who I KNEW would not judge me!
  14. Hey everyone! I'm also May 3rd... I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow. I'm pretty nervous about the whole thing. But, there's no way I'm chickening out. I want to be healthy again so badly!! :scared2:
  15. Okay, so here is my problem. I am on my pre-op diet (surgery May 3rd), which consists of Protein shakes twice a day and a high protein dinner with greens. I've been doing it and have no problems (down 9 lbs, in fact). BUT, I am going out of town this weekend for my friend's going away party. She is moving to Singapore for 3 years. All of my college friends will be there and they all like to drink and have a good time. AND, they're going to want ME to drink and have a good time (I don't get to see them that often). I know what you're thinking, "just say no". I plan to. But I don't want them to know about my surgery and me not drinking at my friend's going away party is suspcious. I could probably get away with drinking one night and be fine for my surgery, but I want to do everything right. Here is what I need: A medical excuse (nothing drastic) that I can use to explain why I'm not drinking. Maybe a medical test I would be having the following week that demands I don't drink. Maybe I've been having acid reflux and the doctor wants to have me not drink for 2 weeks? Two of my close friends who will be at the party know about my surgery, and once I get my story in line, they will back me up and it will be easy not to participate. I just don't want to look suspicious! If any of you have had to do the same thing, please, please help me out! Thank you!!!
  16. Thanks for all the great advice! Any idea of what specific medications can't be mixed with alcohol??? Or that would be really really bad with alcohol?
  17. Hi! I'm getting banded May 3rd and could really use someone to buddy up with! Have you started any pre-op diet or anything yet?

  18. Hi! I noticed on the may bandster forum that we have the same surgery day! I could use a buddy during this process :) Are you on a pre-op diet?

  19. Is anyone else getting banded May 3rd? I was hoping I could meet some people who are my same path! I didn't have to start my pre-op diet until today, but I did it last week, too (not over the weekend, though). Let me know if your surgery is May 3rd, and we can help each other through everything! Other things I did today to prepare: 1) Bought a journal to start writing down what I eat and how I'm feeling about everything. 2) Bought a food scale so I can start carefully measuring my food. 3) Cut up my chicken breast into little pieces and counted to 20 every bite! Not very hard, but it took forever!
  20. So this is my first time posting on here. I've only told my fiancee (obviously) and one friend about my surgery (may 3rd). I KNOW my parents will flip out if they know. I don't want to tell them because I know they'll freak out. BUT, I don't want to lie to them and have my mom figure it out and find out I lied about it. What do I do? I have NO doubts about what I'm doing. It's just the judgement from my family I'm worried about. Any advice?

    Emotionally Tied to Food

I felt the same way!! I'm having surgery in a few weeks and have to go to a friend's going away party a week before the surgery. I'm not telling people, but it will look suspicious that I'm not drinking! BUT, like someone else already said, after a while you can still drink... but we won't have to drink so much to get drunk! Brilliant!
  22. I share everyone's pain on this thread. I haven't experienced the airplane extender belt... but there is barely any slack!! As a teacher, I often hear students make comments. BUT, two things come to mind :sad:I have a picture on my desk of my fiancee and I at a high school dance. Many kids have commented on it, but one kid picked it up and said, "is this you?? you were so pretty"... WERE... when I called him out about the "were" part, he tried to say I'm still pretty, but I didn't buy it. :sad:Everytime I get my haircut, my hair stylist (who is also a friend) makes comments about how I can lose weight. He'll tell me about something another client of his did, how he's worried about me, etc. It wouldn't be so bad, but everytime he says stuff it's when my fiancee is also there getting his haircut! I know my fiancee doesn't care, but it's still mortifying. I can't wait until May 3rd!
  23. Hi! I have sleep apnea, and had sleep studies done. You absoultely can have the Lapband with apnea. In fact, it is a major comorbidity that will help get you approved with your insurance. You'll have the test and then you'll get a CPAP machine. It kind of sucks, but you really do sleep much better. Plus, you don't feel bad snoring all the time!

    Parents...

Thanks for the advice. I emailed my mom and she immediately responded and was really supportive. I feel soooo much better about everything.

    Parents...

Thank you guys. I know that telling them is the right thing to do. But I'm terrified. Maybe I'll just tell my mom... haha.
