I use WW as another tool to get the most nutrition for the calories, etc and find it is helpful. I won't pay online or go to meetings, but the ability to use their new Points Plus method for calculating calories, fats, fiber, carbs, and protein to make for a balanced plan ... just don't use the full number of points suggested. The food is good, the nutrition has been proven over and over the years, and ANY food can be converted to points plus. The frozen dinners etc are convenient and already calculated....nobody said you have to eat everything all the time. Good luck.
  5. Hi all, Today is day post-op day 6 (one week ago was banded), and today is the first day I really feel better...no more shoulder pain and still needing narcotic every 12 hours or so....feeling "full" and uncomfortable most of the time, trying to get all the liquids and Protein in is most difficult. I thought I would be feeling better by now than what I am, but at 63...not as quick a recovery as when younger.... hope to return to work next Monday...we'll see. I can be on soft regular foods now (eggs, cottage cheese, etc) but nothing sounds good and broth is easier than sweet shakes for now. Hope everyone is doing well...keep posting and we'll keep track of all of us. Best to everyone, Carol:unsure:

    Greetings from Oregon

I was able to have the Lap Banding done on 4/19 and am doing well...sore and stiff, but not as painful as yesterday. I am able to get all the fluids down and protein (drink 2 protein shakes from Costco with 30gm EACH and 11 oz each)...I feel comfortable eating a whole package of cream of wheat, a 6 oz yogurt, etc so don't feel any restriction or swelling restriction yet....I'm trying to limit the quantity so I don't stretch out the pouch....my surgeon keeps on the "slip and slide" yogurt, puddings, all liquids, cream soups, etc only for the first week and then advances to "regular" foods and I'm afraid I'll stretch the pouch out before my first fill on May 18. No nausea at all, and am not really hungry. Let me know how you're doing. Carol:thumbup:
  7. Day 2 is wonderfully better...sore but not as painful and gas is going away. I found that I only need 2 of my protein shakes from Costco (at 30gms protein each and 11 oz each) to meet my protein requirements and I also used Wonderslim tomato soup and hot chocolate (each with 15gm protein and 6-8 oz fluid) and that makes it easy to meet the requirements. Am on "slip & slide" for a week with cream of wheat, yogurt, applesauce, puddings etc and then can go on whatever is tolerated...will keep up with shakes and soups while trying other foods...no portion restriction feeling but it may come or I may have to wait for first fill in 4 weeks. Thanks for all the support. Carol:thumbup:
  8. Made it! Am sore and stiff today, but holding a pillow to tummy when walking and sitting straight up really helps. Am doing well with fluids and Protein (thanks to Protein shakes and protein soup). Dr. said would feel some restriction right away, but I don't really notice anything different yet, but the swelling is just starting and feels like a chest tightness or "stuck" feeling if I take too big a swallow. First fill will be in 4 weeks...then I'll know what it's really all about. Glad to be a part of this group and anxious for the restriction to become a part of my everyday life. Walking and sipping all day and resting in between right now. Carol:thumbup:
  9. I was on the operating table undergoing proposed gastric bypass last week, when they found some diabetic cirrhosis of my liver and had to stop...doing nothing but some liver biopsies....hoping to see the liver specialist next week and getting cleared for a Band instead. I was very upset and disappointed as I had been working for almost a year to get this done....I'm ever so grateful now that there are options out there and hopefully, I will be able to get banded and use this tool as effectively (though not as rapidly) as I anticipated the bypass. My best to all, Lilhoot

    Greetings from Oregon

Hello...also from Oregon Will find out on Monday if my surgeon can do a Lap-Band after starting and then cancelling the gastric bypass last week due to finding diabetic cirrhosis on my liver. Let me know how you are doing ... have you noticed any diffierence in "fullness" since before surgery even without your first fill? I was so set on bypass that now I am trying to learn all I can about the band. Best to you, Lilhoot:thumbup:
