    I get banded 8/6/07--Nervous

I don't think you'd be human if you weren't nervous before having surgery, any surgery, but I promise you that it is the best decision I have ever made. I went to Mexico to have it done and I was scared to death, but my sister went with me and I had done my research and was very prepared. The staff also made it so much easier for me as well since it was so well orchestrated. I didn't have to think about a thing except getting to where I needed to be, and they even arranged all of that as well. Waiting to be taken back for the surgery took longer than the surgery itself. Once it's over and you've spent your night in the hospital, just make sure to do exactly what they tell you and you'll be fine. I also made sure that I had everything I needed at home when I got there so I wouldn't have to worry about it, plenty of water and Isopure and clear soups, etc. Also try to get liquid medicine, if possible, and if not, get a pill crusher or splitter to help with that. I wish you the best of luck and I'll be thinking about you. Stay on the forum, too, since it is such a great source of info...
  7. Hi All: I was banded in Mexico by Dr. Rumbaut on September 28th, 2006, so tomorrow will be my 10-month anniversary. I am happy to report that I have lost 110 pounds thus far and am looking forward to losing more. I have had two fills in my 9.75 band and they total 2.5 cc's. For me right now, that seems to be plenty. I have a hard time getting anything down in the morning and sometimes at lunch. When dinner time rolls around, I am ready to eat, but can only do 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food. I stay away from most starches and certain meats, but I try to get in whatever Protein and veggies and fruits that I can. I also do Soups and Protein shakes so I can get the nutrition that I need. I also work out at least four times a week. The band has been a great tool for me, but I have to remind myself daily that it is only a tool. I still have "head" issues with food that I am working on by going to a support group meeting once a month as well as a weekly group therapy session meant for weight loss surgery patients. It has been a long time coming, but I am very, very happy with my decision and at this point in my life, I cannot think of a better way to lose weight for me. It has truly been the answer to all of my prayers my whole life, since that is how long I've been heavy. I wish everyone the best of luck and I wish you all the greatest success and I hope to be on this forum fairly frequently now. I find the best help to be the support one gets from others.

    Mexico

Just to put my two cents in, I was banded on Sept. 28, 2006, in Monterrey, Mexico, at the San Jose Hospital by Dr. Roberto Rumbaut. It was a great experience. And, yes, I was scared to death when I left. My sister went with me and thank goodness she brought a box of tissues with her. I cried at every step of the way thinking that I was making a huge mistake. I couldn't believe I was doing this in Mexico. Well, four months later and 57 pounds gone and I'm here to tell you it was not a huge mistake. Definitely do your research and find who you're comfortable with, and remember that when you get there, if you're not comfortable, you can always turn around and come back home... Best of luck with your decision!!!
  9. Hi, All: I am new to this, so please bear with me. I was just banded by Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey, Mexico on September 28th. The first week was rough, but now things are much better. I've lost 30 pounds as of today and am feeling good. I know I'm going to have lots of questions, so I hope there will be some experts out there who can answer them for me. Thanks...
