    November Bandsters!

FullofGrace and anyone still thinking about surgery! Hi...thanks for the response to my post. I was too scared. I am still scared. I am scared that I will have complications, etc. This is a huge decision in your life. It's not like getting your hair cut short after having long hair all your life. You know, one of my doctors told me that she was very very happy that I had made this decision. She has recommended it to patients before and of course their excuse is they don't have the money or insurance. She said to me...I see people in their fancy cars, fancy trips and fancy houses. They think more about material items than their own health. To me that tells me that she totally recommends it! For me this will decrease my insulin in take or possibly put my diabetes in remission. I hope to be able to live a longer and a healthier life for the two children, which I adopted. When I did...I just wasn't thinking of them...I was just thinking of me, but now I have to think about them. I just wanted children. I can't leave them planning their own 16th birthday party...LOL. You know what I mean. I have been over weight my whole life. I started dieting at the age of 10 years old. At 13 years old my mom took me to a doctor with pills in jars. Caffeine! I always lost weight and then gained it back. I am praying for an answer this time! It just has to work.

    November Bandsters!

Hi...everyone! I am still having pain today, but I am at work. I started taking extra strength Tylenol (liquid) instead of children's liquid. It works better. I called the doctors office and talk to the nurse today. She said everything I am feeling is normal. My lower abdomen is swollen and my left side hurts when I walk or breath. All normal. She did suggest I go ahead and eat some cottage cheese...and...oh my god did it taste good. However, I got the hiccups and some of it came up. THERE'S YOUR SIGN! I stopped eating right away. I was not able to see Oprah yesterday, but I heard that there was a young lady on there that lost 170 pounds...half her size. Did anyone see it? Happy Tuesday! 5 days post-op!

Today I am back to work. I think I figured out why my left side hurts worst than anything else. I think it is the port. I am only taking children's liquid tylenol today, so still have some pain. I sure this will get better with time. I'm not sure how much to eat and when to eat. I feel like I should eat, but I haven't been hungry today. PS...Stay away from people who make you laugh...it hurts! :heh:

    November Bandsters!

I had the surgery thursday morning. It is now Sunday. I feel ok today, but still swollen. I think I pulled a muscle in my side getting out of bed and my back is hurting just from laying down for days. I totally forgot to have my husband take a picture of me before sugery, so I will today. According to my scales I've have dropped 15 pounds in 4 days. Doesn't that sound like too much? it doesn't feel like it though because I am swollen. My doctor only requireds clear liquids for 3 days after surgery, so today I had some Gerber's oatmeal and apple sauce...yummy! My blood sugars have been mostly under 150, but I am still having to take some insulin and probably will until I lose more weight. I am planning on going back to work tomorrow. I don't see a problem with it. Here are some of things I found out that help...make sure your sheets are tucked in good use them to pull yourself up to get out of bed...big help. Have some sugar free candy to suck on or something the first and second day...it helps the dry mouth. Other than that your sore and tired for a several days...but you get over it.

    November Bandsters!

Two days! I have not heard anything from the doctors office about my test results. I called and left a message for the nurse yesterday and she didn't call back. I told my dad and he is worried sick. He doesn't understand why I need this. I just don't want any negative around me. I explained that it will help my diabetes and help extend my life span, but he just said why can't you eat the right things on your own...etc.

    November Bandsters!

:help: Three days until surgery...I HOPE! I am sure today I will find out if my blood work was too jacked up to do the surgery. Oh...and I feel like I am getting cold. What should I do? I guess Vitamin C? Because it is getting so close to the surgery day I am having my doubts about all this. I've failed at so many diets that I am worried that I will fail on this too. Plus, I am worried about long term problems. I try to keep thinking that this will work and hopefully put my diabetes into remission. Don't get me wrong...I want to look good, but I also want to feel better. Also, I've told my mom about this, but not my dad. He is 78 yrs old...good health, but I don't think he will understand. So, I am trying to decide whether or not tell him? Any words of encouragement? Reg

    November Bandsters!

I just found out that the nurse and doctor were not in today, so I won't know whether or not they will approve me for surgery until Monday. Here are the things... RBC 5.18 H Hgb 15.4 H Poly 73 H Lymph 21 L Alkaline Phos 131 H A1C 10 H Everything else was within range. I have a friend who can read some of this stuff and she said it kind of looks like liver or gallbladder problems. Wouldn't you just know...something would have to get in the way of my sugery. Well...nothing for sure. I'll just have to see what they say on Monday.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    November Bandsters!

I'm scared...I just know they are going to cancel my surgery. I just got my blood work and it is a mess. I work in a hospital and a friend of mine who is qualified took a look at it and said it looks like I having something wrong...like my gallbladder or liver. Plus, my A1C blood sugar average was 10 which is really high. I am just sitting here waiting for the doctor to call and cancel.

Today I got my blood drawn and had my EKG. The EKG results were good. I'll know tomorrow about the A1C. I'm just crossing my fingers at this point.

    Diabetes

I am getting ready for my sugery on November 2nd in Kansas City Missouri. I had to call the hospital for a pre-equal. The nurse was not sure they could do my surgery because my blood sugars have been up. My last A1C (average) was 9.4, which is around 250. That was about 4 weeks ago, so it might be down now and I have to have it retested tomorrow. She said it has to be below 150. Now...I do have a little bit of beef with them because if I had to have my gallbladder removed or something else...they would just do it. I also have to have a EKG now. The doctor didn't order this or say anything about the blood sugars being a problem. Did your doctor or the hospital tell you this? Current weight: 252 Height: 5'10" BMI: 36
