In nutrition, the diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. Although humans are omnivores, each culture holds some food preferences and some food taboos. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy. Proper nutrition requires vitamins, minerals, and fuel in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Dietary habits play a significant role in the health and mortality of all humans. Dietary choices can also define cultures and play a role in religion. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi all! I just thought I'd drop you all a line to tell you I made it to a support meeting and what it was like. There was about 15 people there. Four of them lost over a 100 pounds. Three or four of us were newbies. Everyone talked about what was hard for them. I talked about the fact that I had ate 2 pieces of pizza and tons of other junk last week. Everyone said that was normal. Oh...and the leader gave me a spoon and fork...it was tiny! It's to help teach me to eat smaller bites. The meeting lasted 2 hours. It was worth it and I enjoyed it. Very helpful. I am motivated again...LOL. One suggestion that I liked was that cooking in a crockpot helps make meats more tender, so that it is easier to eat. Some people were worried about not being able to chew their meat. I fixed some beef stew today...yummy! Another suggesion was that we eat Protein Bars for Breakfast or just some kind of Protein instead of a carb because the carbs will just make you hungrier the rest of the day. Low Low carbs...worked for all these woman the best. I can't think of anything else, but if I do I will update this. I went bowling last weekend and this weekend I took my kids to the skating rink. I am trying to exercise, but I hate to exercise, so I am trying to think of something I can do with my kids too. It was fun and they learned a little bit about skating. I didn't even fall. Hope any of this helps....stay warm! UPDATE! Another thing they were saying that will sound very weird is that they all have found that their noses run when they are full :speechles

I wonder if anyone else has noticed their there band gets tighter or any discomfort with you are stressed out? I think mine does.

Thank God! I thought I was crazy....I took a Lorazpam last night because I so stressed out and it was sooooooooooo tight.

I eat and eat all day long...I haven't got any control. I am noticing a lot of snacks between meals. Now my doctor and the Lap Band information booklets says we need to stick to 2 too 3 meals a day. NO SNACK or eating between. HOW?

I was told the pain was from them moving the liver around to get to the stomach. It has been 9 weeks and I still feel a little bit of discomfort when I do to much lifting.

April 2006 Bandsters - Running weight loss totals
prbrooksie replied to Bostongurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello everyone...I had the band surgery on Nov 2nd. I want to be rude, but more curious as to why some people are lossing over a 100 pounds in the 8 months and some only 15. I am starting to wonder if I did the wrong thing. I am expecting better results than only 15 pounds and I would finding out why from the doctor. Should have we got the bypass surgery? Are we wasting our money? I was private pay. Tell me how you guy feel about these results. I don't understand why it isn't working for everyone. -
Is any vomiting or PBing? I haven't since a few weeks from surgery. I just feel like I am eating too much.
-
I feel the same as you! Last night I was full full full and it up around my breast I hurt hurt hurt. It is hard to tell when your full..if your regular stomach is hungry. I think I am going to start drinking a protein drink to fill up the lower part before I eat food food.

Hi, I read this post and another on the missouri thread. You probably are a candidate for surgery. My BMI was 36. I am diabetic too. However, I was private pay. My insurance would not pay for it. So, if your insurance has certain rules than you need to check with them first. Dr. Malley did my surgery and I was wonder why you said you wouldn't go to him? I have not found anything wrong with or his office yet. In fact, you are welcome to come to a support meeting tomorrow at the their office it is for anyone. The meeting is at 10 a.m. Let me know if you are interested. It might answer a lot of your questions. I have not been to one yet, so this is a first. My surgery was about 9 weeks ago. I am down about 30 pounds. Oh and please do not go to the WLS unless you have any other doctor, but Dr. Nigro do your sugery. I work in the health field and he serious problems. Enough to get kicked out a hospital. Malley Surgical Weight Loss Center 5820 Lamar Suite 200 Mission, KS 66202 (Our office is located on the second floor of the Brill Eye Center)

One of the things that keeps us motivated is success stories. I know there is a Before and After thread, but I like to hear about the success too. So many people could benefit from reading about your success. I am still working on mine being just a 8 weeks post-op. Thank you! Tell us... When? Why? Who? Insurance or Not? How it felt? What has changed? Pictures!

Buck Rogers had Gastric surgery. I just watched it on Discover Health last night. He got up over 300 pounds. -
Hi...Tracy, I made it through the day the next Monday, but I was slumped over and exhausted by the time I got home. There is no need on rushing back to work, if you have the time to take off. As far as the next comment goes...I can't imagine anyone needing 4 to 6 weeks off work. Yes...I can...if you have a job that you are moving and lifting...you would need to take off.

My surgery was done on a Thursday morning 8 a.m. They kept me until Friday around 10 a.m. All of my doctors patients stay overnight. I was in pain for a couple of weeks, but I have sit down job in front of a computer all day, so I tried to go back to work the following Monday. I was internally screaming for doing that...I was sore and still tired. I then stayed home Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday I was feeling better. I really felt good the next Monday. In 10 to 11 days! Probably the worst thing for me was getting in and out of bed to go to the bathroom, but I made it. I am diabetic too. I have been insulin dependent for about 18 years. My blood sugars have not changed that much yet. It could be different for you.

What's the worst thing someone said to you?
prbrooksie replied to annieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No no no...my dad was being sarcastic. He has also called it a Lap Dance...making fun of it. If he knew how much I had to pay for this surgery he would flip out. He didn't ask and I didn't mention it. The other thing is that he was talking from my step brother house. My step brother was kind of in a three way conversation with us (in the background) When my dad laughed about the lap band...so did my step brother. It's all a big joke to them. -

I had just posted this on the November Bandsters this morning. I don't know if this the post that got this started, but here it goes... Something happened last night. I've been on a binge for last week. I've ate pizza, tacos, Cookies, cake, chinese food, anything I could get my hands on. I have gained 2 pounds this week. But to top things off I got a call from 78 years old father. He asked me how I was feeling, etc. Then he was talking about all that he ate for dinner and afterwards...he giggled and said that maybe he need the "lap band" ha ha. I blew it off, but by bedtime I was laying there and started crying. I guess my feeling got hurt. He was making fun of the lap band. I just thought he understood, but apparently he doesn't. I am still bummed out about it. You want your parents approval for everything you do. I have struggled with my weight all my life and he knows this and he knows that I am diabetic and struggle with it too. He doesn't make fun of the fact that a walk around everything 24/7 with an insulin pump attached to stomach. Man...I am sooo hurt, but I won't say anything. He is my father! This is just one of my stories. I also have to deal with my daughter who is only 6 years old and has told me that I am fat for a couple of years. It hurts too, but I do have to remember that she is right and only a child. I can relate to every story I have read so far. <!-- / message --><!-- sig --> -
Thank you...I will take all the advise I can get! I am like a child...tell me over and over again until it get through my thick head.

Thank you so much for your story...it really helped me this morning. I have been kind of down about this whole thing. I been thinking it doesn't work and we are just guinea pigs.
