I am Type 1 Diabetic and over weight. I have the Lap Band. Is anyone else Type 1?

Good Morning! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking after my post yesterday. Yes…I was a little offended by the comments that were made to me about my struggles with my eating. <O:p I know a lot of us want to find out the reason why we eat so much that it has created our weight problems. I do too, but I believe I could never find out the true reason. I think one doctor might say it was because of this reason and another might say for another. Heck, since I was a 9 month old baby doctors were saying I was too fat and telling my mom to put me on skim milk. <O:p I am not super obese, but I do like to eat. I have controlled my weight some or I would be. I just like food! I like to cook it and eat it. I do believe that our senses control a lot of it…which trigger hormones that tell us to eat. <O:p 1. It could be because of a medical condition. I am diabetic that I can’t process the food intake like a skinny person 2. It could be because I see, smell, and taste food that I am overweight. <O:p3. It could be that I don’t get enough exercise because my internal body doesn’t use the food I consume as energy…etc. <O:p What I eat has this powerful ability to influence on me. We all know too that carbs trigger something to make us hungrier and I love my carbs! Even when we are stress…our bodies react by telling our brains we need this and that. <O:p Obviously, we have to eat to survive. It’s not the same as an alcoholic or drug addict. We can’t take the drug away and it will all be better. I could wear a clothing pin on my nose all day…LOL. <O:p It’s not that we don’t have the will power or that our physics are so weak that we can’t control our hungry. I don’t think I had physiological problems at 9 months old. I think we all have physiological problems to some extent. I find the best person to talk to about a problem is some who is going through what you are going through. I hope that you guys are my support? <O:p I can't think of myself as thin because I never have been! I know the band is working…I am far from eating the way I use too. I am just the type of person that has a hard time waiting for anything. I want to wake up in the morning and be thin. <O:p Thank you for support! We are all in this together or we wouldn’t have gotten the band! <O:p

Good Morning everyone! I am still struggling. I feel like I am working against this band. Why do I do this? I was down to 225 on my scales this weekend and now up to 229. I can't seem to find the place to stop eating, so I end up PBing at almost every meal. I wake up every morning and say that this is the day I am going to stop eating all this junk and then someone brings in homemade oatmeal cookies to work or my husband decides to make nachos at 9 p.m. It is so hard for me to believe that this band is going to work...since nothing has work in the past. Some of you have lost 60 plus pounds and had your band after me. I'm jealous! I want your motivation and strength. I keep thinking of excuses to eat...it's the weather, it's my horomones..etc. Then I eat and the next thing you know I'm running down the hallway to the bathroom. Thanks for letting me vent...it helps me! Maybe today is the day?

Question about the 'port'
prbrooksie replied to GC53's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off...go to Lapband.com and read about it...very informational. My band is placed below the breast and before the waist line. Closer to the waist line. I have only been banded for three months. -

Hello...everyone! I've been reading and I too had my 2nd fill last Tuesday. I have been Pbing...until yesterday. I was able to eat a small piece of chicken with out having a PB. Then today I ate a couple things. I even ate two Poppers...yummy. I know...I know...not healthy. For some reason the band was very tight and now it has loosen up some. Unless I have more problems I'm keeping it. I want to lose weight and if it is too loose I will eat and eat. Isn't that what we got these for? I weighed in at 232 at the doctors last Tuesday and this morning I weighed 225 (7 pounds). I'm LOVING IT!

I was at a support meeting this weekend. There were about 3 woman there that have lost over 100 pounds. I thought it was interesting that they all said that they notice their noses running when they are full.

Newbie...here! 2nd fill having a lot of PBing...., but all that really comes back up is this clear thick gross stuff. Question...is the clear gross stuff SLOBBER? One bandster suggested drinking Hot drinks before eating.
-
I know I am not eating too fast, possibly to tight, but because I am new at this...I am not sure. Sorry for the descriptive stuff...but I am wondering if this normal? Heck...speaking of descriptive...have you seen some the PIC on this site? They are more descriptive than i am.

Thanks for all your help. I am sorry that some of you are experiencing the same as me, but it helps to know that someone is. I tried to eat lunch today and after about 5 bites of mixed veggies and a baked potato...it got stuck and up came the gross stuff. What the heck is it...slobber?

OK..I got my 2nd fill Tuesday. I thought I was going to be ok and I am hoping the first couple of days is just tighter. I can't eat! I am PBing...a lot. Not to sound rude and but here is what is happening... I cough...spit...choke and then a clear thick crap comes up. Not really much of the food. All I tried to eat was a baked potato and cream of wheat. I'm going to give it a couple more days. What do you guys think?

I went to the doctors yesterday afternoon. Since my last visit about 1 month ago I had only dropped 1 pound, so he did another fill. Ok..the first fill I didn't feel anything. When he pushed that needle in and started digging around..I FELT IT! I'm pretty sure I he got it because I could eat last night. I even tried Tomato Soup. I didn't throw up all of it, but some came back up. This morning I am eating a packet of Cream of Wheat and it feels ok. I serious wonder if he hit the port on the first fill because I just didn't feel full. Plus, there was a big difference in the way he did this fill and the other. Anyway, I am thankful now that I feel something. I hope it works!

I tried Medifast...just get one of there packages. I only lost 14 pounds on it, but I have a hard time sticking to anything. I used the left overs after surgery too. Personally, I wouldn't go to the this doctor if he is tell you have to lose 10%, unless he needs you to lose it for safety reasons during the surgery. Have tried another doctor? I only had to do the liquid diet before surgery for 1 day and if I could lose weight on my own...I would have gotten the band. My doctor knows this and has told me this too. He knows we all binges...etc. Anyway...Medifast is ok, it's not great, but ok.

Since, I am doing so terrible at my meal planning and everything. I was just thinking about something. If I start counting my calories...1000-1200 a day and only three meals (no snacks), which is what my doc wants me to do. I can have 333 to 400 cals a meal. Some of you might be doing this now...I just haven't really thought about it that way. So...I had 2 boiled eggs and 2 slices of bacon, which was around 200 cals. I should go ahead and eat another 200...maybe I wan't be so hungry all day. My yogurt is only 90.

I'm glad they figured it all out. I can't wait to get another fill. I can eat anything. I already had 1.25cc. I hope he give me atleast 1cc the next time.

New Yorker Michael Hebranko poses another medical mystery. Twenty years ago, at 1,100 pounds, he was considered the fattest man in the world. "I could eat two dozen eggs," Hebranko said. "Thirty-six pork chops, 24 frankfurters. I've eaten two dozen bagels at one time with two packages of cream cheese. I'm never full. I'm never, never, ever full." Then, in the late 1980s, with the help of celebrity dieter and exercise coach Richard Simmons, Hebranko miraculously dropped from 1,100 pounds to 200 pounds — in only 19 months. He became an overnight success, appearing on a Simmons workout video and becoming a motivational speaker to the super obese.

I don't believe he had the gastric bypass surgery. He lost it on his own. I'll check into to it though.

I don't know...I had my surgery 11/2 and my first fill 12/13. They only put 1.25cc in in my 10mm band. It doesn't feel like I am restricted at all.

Below is an email from the Nurse at Dr. Malley's office. I had asked her what size band I have..... Regina, Your lapband size is 10cm. There are the 3 different sizes and he chooses a size based on what he sees when he is doing the surgery. The main concern is that the band is big enough that you are able to drink the next morning with the swelling from the surgery. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks Nikki Dennis LPN Bariatric Nurse

I hope it is only too full. Please let us know as soon as you can.

You are doing so well... I am trying willpower, but it is hard...just like always.

Sharon...I didn't go bowling for weeks after the surgery I had my surgery 11/2 and it was 12/30 for the 1st time, but I only bowled one game and my left side started to hurt. Then the 2nd time was 1/6. I bowled 3 games and I made it. I guess it would just depend on you, but I would do it for a couple of weeks.

My doctor is going so much slow at these fill. I had my surgery 11/2, first fill 12/16 and I don't have another one until 12/23.

Tracy...that was the first one of Dr. Malley's Support group meetings I had been too. Here is some of the other things we talked about. I am just copying and pasting from another post... There was about 15 people there. Four of them lost over a 100 pounds. Three or four of us were newbies. Everyone talked about what was hard for them. I talked about the fact that I had ate 2 pieces of pizza and tons of other junk last week. Everyone said that was normal. Oh...and the leader gave me a spoon and fork...it was tiny! It's to help teach me to eat smaller bites. The meeting lasted 2 hours. It was worth it and I enjoyed it. Very helpful. I am motivated again...LOL. One suggestion that I liked was that cooking in a crockpot helps make meats more tender, so that it is easier to eat. Some people were worried about not being able to chew their meat. I fixed some beef stew today...yummy! Another suggesion was that we eat Protein bars for Breakfast or just some kind of protein instead of a carb because the carbs will just make you hungrier the rest of the day. Low Low carbs...worked for all these woman the best. I can't think of anything else, but if I do I will update this. I went bowling last weekend and this weekend I took my kids to the skating rink. I am trying to exercise, but I hate to exercise, so I am trying to think of something I can do with my kids too. It was fun and they learned a little bit about skating. I didn't even fall. Hope any of this helps....stay warm! UPDATE! Another thing they were saying that will sound very weird is that they all have found that their noses run when they are full :speechles <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
