Thanks guy's (and gals) for all of the support. I have lost weight on several occassions before, (100lbs plus) and on my weight loss journey's I have actually had McDonald's salads followed by an ice cream cone...and still lost the weight. It was going back to eating a double quarter pounder with bacon and cheese with a large fries and coke and a large flurry that was the problem...always. I am sure I will be okay. The problem I always seen was when I cut verything out is when the urges became too great and hence the "yo0yo" dieting I have been doing for years now!!

So my doc was pretty vague on what I can eat now. I got creamy soup, cream of wheat and mashed potatoes. Can I eat canned brown beans, refired beans etc...? I am 11 days post op.

2 corrections needed: 1. I am a "He" 2. I am in the full liquid/mushy stages now
-
besides the higher carbs....McDonald's ice cream has the same nutritional value as 1% milk. On the liquid diet my doc encouraged me to eat lots of creamed soup and potatoes, which are high in salt, fat and carbs, so the more I think of it I am sure I will be okay. I had a can of tuna with some split pea soup for supper...so my total calorie intake today was around 800 and lots or protein!! Going out for an hour walk now to burn off that devil's potion (ice cream) :-)

It is funny the differences in replies...some supportive...some like I beat my dog with a stick :-) No worries. the key with any diet, lap band, life style change is to have anything, but in moderation. I will make this my monthly treat, and move on. There is not much I can do about it now, but move forward and learn from my mistakes!!

can you buy the protien snickers bars online?

Subway here does not sell yogurt, there are no Starbucks, and yes there is a MacDonalds, but they do not do yogurt here either. I live in a city of 18,000 people in the Canadian Arctic. Things are hard to come by at times here. Besides the high calories (400) the soft serve ice cream is close to yogurt in nutrition anyway (protein, carbs and fat). I was not really craving ice cream, I was craving something to eat, and what can you get when you are running between meetings in this place??? Not much, but I need to come more prepared I think is the big thing!!

Trust me i would have rathered Subway or something more healthy, but I am still on my liquid diet and my options are pretty small. I was going to grab a soup at Subway...but they had none left. Should be more prepared from home next time. I thought ice milk would be the best bet, but I guess I was wrong!!

Ok so yesterday was my first day for some mushy foods. I am now 9 days post op, and I had some instant mashed potatoes (made with skim milk and one tablespoon of Olivenia margerine). I ate about 1/2 a cup and on top I put low fat cream of mushroom soup. I see a lot of people on here say to stay away from potatoes as they are fattening, but if that is the only solid I have in a day and eat half a cup (140 cal) and some mushroom soup (200 cal), should this not be okay? I had a Boost high protein for breakfast. I am still having a hard time getting 60g of protein a day. I might be around 40-45grams a day!!

I had it off and on since surgery last friday. Maybe just gas??? I am not sure!!

I am on my liquid diet for 2 weeks after surgery. I am looking forward to something decent to eat besides a crappy shake. I almost caved last night to a small pudding, but it is not on my approved list. I licked the spoon, it tasted great, and then thought to myself....what was I doing. Even though some people are okay with pudding this soon after surgery, I did not want to chance it, and wanted to make sure I follow the doctors directions to as "T"!!

I certainly hope you are right. I was just banded last friday and the more I read, the more nervous I get!!

Well I had my surgery done on Friday. I spent 8 hours on a plane yesterday drinking plenty of water and apple juice to stay hydrated. Today I have had water, juice, skim milk and some broth. I am not getting any good calories or protein at this rate. I cannot stand the thought of another protein shake. It make me sick even thinking about them. I have had nothing but some water and juice for 6 days now and I am down over 20lbs in the past 2 weeks. What can I do. Should I take a liquid vitamin? How do I get some protein in me???

Just checked and Bariatric Eating will not deliver to my address....ARGH!!!

Well I bought some Boost high protein last night and had my first one for breakfast this morning. They are not that great either, but at least did not make me sick. I am chewing sugar free gum like mad and drank one large gatorade this morning and now onto straight water. By the weekend I will be able to eat some mushy foods like cream soups, lentils etc... so I can make it through until then I hope :-)

Well I tired a bit of pudding tonight...it is not on my diet menu but I thought it might be okay if I can hold it down. did buy some high protein boost shakes tonight, and I will see how those go. The thought of the taste of Whey makes me sick. I live in a small town and can not really get anything else for a shake besides what I have.

I was given Supradol (toradol in the USA) to take for pain on my trip home to Canada tomorrow. I have a 6 hour flight and then a 2 hour flight. I have read some negative things about the drug online and that some people get really nauseated and sick from this stuff. I think I would rather sit in pain for 6 hours than spend the whole trip throwing up and risk my band slipping. Any advice out there?

smilinginside...where did you get your band put in? Where are you having your fills? -
Hey folks. How did your banding procedures go? I had mine done yesterday with Dr. Verboonen and I have no complaints at all.
-
Well yesterday was the big day. I got my band. I was almost ready the day before to back out and not have it done...but pushed through. Once I got to the hospital I was a bit nervous, but the staff were awesome. I was banded in Cancun, and must say it has been a great experience. My surgery was at 6:30pm and was awake in recovery by 7:40 and wanted to get up and walk around. Went to my room, watched some tv and went to sleep. Woke up this morning at 7am and took a shower and did some walking around. I am now back at the hotel enjoying the nice warm weather before I catch my flight back to Canada tomorrow!! All is all so far a good experience!!

Isopure Protein Drink
x96oun replied to BandedBelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am currently using the ISo Sensation and it is pretty good. It does leave me feeling full. The flavour I have is Banana. Does not taste like a pizza, but fills the void when hungry :-) -
I was told by my doctor to have only protein shakes and clear liquids for 12 days pre op. My surgery is on friday. I asked why for example I could not have white fish or tuna as they are high in protein and have NO carbs or fat. Then out of the blue she tells me today I can have it (fish and green veggies) yesterday and today, but back on the pre-op diet 3 days before. Does this seem strange to anyone else that she would change her mind? I did have tuna steak tonight and some jumbo shrimp and last night I had mahi mahi and shrimp...but for some reason felt guilty even though I was told it was okay. She told me pretty much EVERYONE cheats on the pre-op diet, with some eating high carbs etc...!! I ordered a sald tonight but only ate like 1/4 because it had olive oil on it and I knew this would be a no-no!
