Thanks for the info. I live in the Canadian Arctic. I had my surgery done in Mexico and I need to fly to Calgary to get my fill done. My next visit, I will explain my feelings with the doctor and see his take on it. He told me before I went down for the first fill he would take me to 6cc's, but only actually took me to 4.5cc's for some reason.

As a wise man once said...MMMMM, BEER!!!
x96oun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I know that most docs do not recommend drinking beer because of the carbon in the drink. I am curious if beer like Guinness, Bass etc... beers that have little or no carbornation are okay? I asked my doctor the day after surgery about "never having a beer again" and he said that is not the case, just in limited moderation. I am a bit confused by it all. -

Not that I want a lot...but a cold Guinness on the patio with my buddies would be nice. I know mixed drinks just do not do it for me and usually have more calories than most beer from the sugar content. I will try sipping a beer and see what happens I guess. With no fill or restirction yet, probably not a hell of a lot will happen to me right now!! -
Okay so I am 7 weeks post op now. I have my old appetite back and have no food restriction (except heavy breads). I can eat whatever I like and also small meals do not fill me AT ALL!! I know I need a fill, but it may be a couple of weeks before I can get one, as the closest fill centre is a 2 hour ($500 flight) from me and they ONLY do middle of the week (Wednesday) fills. Anyone else have similar issues, and how did you cope? My wife is giving me grief that I wasted the money havign lapband done, because I can eat like I did before (although I am making healthier choices. I have gained 2 lbs back (did this while on a 2 week vacation). I am getting a bit fustrated, but I hope the fill will help me out soon!!

Blowing it out if proportion???

I think the biggest issue is trust. I would not marry someone who did not trust me in the first place or vice versa. Also I do not check my wife's email or even have her passwords. If someone really wants to cheat, the computer is not the easiest way to do this. Does he sit with you at work all day, follow you to the grocery store, go out with yourself and your friends. Unfortunately the internet has received a bad rap, but there are other ways to be unfaithful to someone than posting or blogging on the internet!! -
So I have been reading through a lot of posts and see that slippage and erosion are possibly more commen than I thought. The stats say like 1%....but is it just me or does it seem like 90% of peeople have issues of some sort???

What is the cutoff for morbidly obese for BMI. I just hit 39.9 today...what is this? -

Betsy...you must be an American?? I am not saying that to offend you or anyone else, but I forgot when I lived in the USA and ordered chicken breast it was a whole (butterfly style), and in Canada when we order chicken breast...we usually get a half breast portion! I knew Canada was bad with portions, but in America it is so true that many believe "bigger means better" with portions!! I got to experience it first hand. That being said American has a lot more variety with food, and some cool options...like Olestra chips. Some people could not eat them, but I never had any issues!! -

So I am 3.5 weeks post op. I have not lost a pound in 3 weeks. Actually I have put on 2 pounds. I have been eating pretty decent (high protein and low carbs and fat), but just cannot get the weight off now. As an example today I had can of chili for ounch, 2 chicken breats for supper and half a cup of mashed potatoes. also had an ice coffee tonight with skim milk. I am keeping my calories under 1000 most days and I think once I went to 1300. I can eat almost anything I like now and it goes right down with little or no restriction. I do not need to chew my food that thorough either. I have a 14cc Lapband and at surgery they put 3cc's in it. What do I do, I am so frustrated and to get a fill I need to fly 2 hours from home!! -

Let me just say as many people have in the past that being STUCK really SUCKS!!! Man the pain was terrible and I was hyperventilating. I was trying to throw it up...and nothing came but saliva. The 10 mins seemed like 10 hours!! I will need to be really careful for now on that's for sure!! I guess that's what i get for my post yesterday starting this thread :-) -

Also on a side note, when I weighed myself the other day I was using a diffeent scale. I used mine at home this morning and I am actually down another 4lbs....so 28lbs altogether since May 11th!! -
Do I need a fill....or what am I doing wrong
x96oun replied to x96oun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am staying in around 800-900 calories a day, so i do not think Overall I am overeating. I think more or less I am eating too many calories at one sitting and undereating at other sittings. Your argument on a non banded person not needing to lose weight eating a piece of chicken the size of a deck of cards is correct, but they could also have MORE than 1/2 a cup of mashed potatoes on the side. So this theory is flawed. Also the flaw in this is that we as bandsters should eat a 100 grams of Protein daily, where a non banded person to stay healthy should eat around 60 grams a day. As for my menu the other day: The chili is 350 calories and 6 grams of fat for the can. Each chicken breast (boneless/skinless) is 110 calories. 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes is 113 calories (made with skim milk at a whole cup of 216 calories). I also had a cup of cranberry juice at 125 calories. And to finish it off I had an iced coffee with some skim milk...so say 100 calories. My daily total was 908 calories!! I am not trying to just justify the decisions, I just think everyone needs the facts if they are going to comment!! -

x96oun replied to x96oun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I certainly do NOT think 2 chicken breasts and 1/2 cup of potatoes is overeating with NO restriction. I have been fighting to stay between 800-900 calories a day. I have tried eating one piece of chicken and 3 hours later I am starving again and a cup of sugar free jello does not cut it...so I usually go to bed!! What I am saying is that if this is a tool and I paid all this money to have it put in, then it should help out. I feel no better off right now than before the surgery. Saying that, I did have my first episode of being "stuck" last night. It was with a piece of smoked salmon at supper. Must not have chewed it properly. There is some restriction, just not near enough in my opinion. The issue I have with the size Lapband I received is that I was told that I was getting a small, and then I got the large because that is all the doctor had at the time of surgery!! -

I can not take another protein shake or I will puke. I do get lots of protein. I eat canned tuna, chicken, shrimp, scallops, lentils etc... I stay under 1200 calories all the time, and am most days in the 800-900 range!! -
No Restriction???????????
x96oun replied to roost899's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel for ya!! I am 3.5 weeks post op, and I have not really had any restirction at all except for some swelling a couple of days after surgery. My first fill is at 6 weeks and I need to fly 2 hours from the city I live in to have it done!!! ARGH!! -

x96oun replied to x96oun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I do not eat 2 chicken breats for supper, I will be starving at night and eat something else. I almost think that the Lapband AP they used (large size) was too big for me. I was originally told I would get the small, but ended up with the large. My understanding is they use the large with persons over a 50+ BMI...I was at a 42 on surgery day. I feel NO RESTRICTION at all!! -
Let's Play - What's your favorite Mushie?
x96oun replied to mmesmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in my second week and I am able to eat about a cup and a half at dinner. I have half a large can of soup for lunch and a Boost high protein for breakfast. I am eating 800-850 calories a day. Am I eating too much...looking at the small amounts everyone else was eating at the mushie stages. -
I am 11 days post op, and today I was hungry and needed a snack or lunch (as I was running in meetings all day). I had a lrge flurry from MacDonalds, but with no toppings just soft serve. It is high in calories (like 400), but has decent protein 16grams. It is all I have eaten today, do you think this is a big no-no? I feel guilty!!

The World record lake trout comes from Great Bear at almost 80lbs on a rod. There have been several trout over 100lbs caught in nets on the same lake. Click on this link to check it out: Fly Fishing Arctic Char Fly Fishing Lake Trout Fly Fishing Arctic Grayling Nunavut Arctic Fishing

The fish are HUGE at Great Bear Lake. Check out the lodge there. It is some of the most beautiful country in the World, and the fishing is out of this World. We had days last summer that between my father and I we landed over 100 lake trout before lunch. Average is 15-20lbs. A little pain while walking
x96oun replied to x96oun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I have been pretty good on drinking 64 ounces of liquids...mostly water but some crystal light and Gatorade G2 included. Yesterday I was down some on my intake...that could have been it combined with the gas!! -
so I am 11 days post op and have been walking most evenings. I went for over an hour tonight and found that I felt a bit bloated and had a little shortness of breath and some discomfort in my stomach and chest. I had some cramp like feelings in my shoulder. Could this still be gas surfacing from surgery?

over 700 views in a day...I wonder if it is due to the number of replies, or that the word "ice cream" is the title??? hahahaha
-
I got my lap band to help me with weight loss. If I wanted to cut everything out I enjoy for food, I think that is a bit extreme...forever. I know friends who still enjoy an ice cream or a burger, but do not do it very often, but still enjoy it when they can. These people are in good shape and exercise regularly. I do not think cutting everything out altogether is the proper format. My guilt was not over eatting ice cream, it was replacing a meal with it for lunch. The fish I caught was a lake trout at 45lbs at Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories Canada!!
