  1. Discharged today. Doing better. Just a case of esophagitis held my discharge. still on clears. Get full fast.

  2. Hi. I post my update after surgery but could not find it. I was just discharged today. Had minor set back but not from the surgery or the banding. I had a bad case of esophagitis which was causing extreme discomfort when I started to take fluids. I had an upper GI plus an endoscopic procedure which showed the bad esophagitis. The banding was fine because the endoscope was able to pass through.<...

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Hi Finally discharged today. Doing much better. Started clears last night and progressed nicely. I am having lukewarm tea for gas and I cannot drink anymore, too much. I weighed in this afternoon before I left hospital and am down 13 pounds. Woohooooo. I will continue phase II on Monday is liquids, protein drinks, sugar-free pops, sugar free yogurt, skim milk, broth. For the rest of the weekend. just phase I which is strictly liquids. I go for my first visit with surgeon on Friday. Looking forward to more exciting news once I get on the scale. Good luck to all the new bandsters. Lydia

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Hi Thanks. talk to you soon.
  6. Good luck. My surgery is in a.m. I did not have to do liquid diet. I had veggie personnel size pizza, glass of sangria, Water and salad. It will be a very long time before I can sangria and pizza. I attended support group meeting tonight. It was a great motivator. There was a gentleman that lost 189 lb with banding. Another fella had dropped over 70 with banding. It helped me keep calm. Lydia

    "Skinny Bitch"

RN here too. Med-surg background, currently faculty and staff educator. Still keep active at bedside per diem. Looking forward to "being a skinny b***h" too, lol. When I return back to school in Sept. I want to look like a totally different person from the one who left on vacation at the end of the Spring semester. Make everyone think there is a new professor on campus. I am getting banded tomorrow, 7/26. Have to be at the hospital by 5:30 a.m. I am the first case of the day. My surgeon requires an overnight stay to make sure all is well and that I am able to tolerate 3-4 ounces of Fluid before discharge. Lyd RN

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Hi Juana, Doctor did not put me on any special diet. I did not require one but I have been careful. I just returned from Vegas yesterday. While there I had responsibly and did a lot of walking on the strip to the point that I had to buy a knee support band. I am trying not to get nervous or anxious. It is on my mind because I have a paper to write for school that I have been putting off because I cannot concentrate but have to get it done tonight. Many prayers tonight. I am going to a support meeting tonight to help me calm down. I am on the OR schedule as the first case. I am a nurse so yes I can understand what you are saying about worrying more about the procedure. We have to stay calm and pray for protection during our procedure. I will try to post tomorrow sometime or Wednesday once I have access to my computer. Lydia

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Hi Being banded tomorrow. Just got the call that I am the first case of the day [5:30 a.m.]. Now the emotions start full gear. Prayers tonight. Very confidence... God bless.
  13. Hi The diet is the hardest thing. My doctor and dietician were very adamant that I follow the diet to avoid any problems. I have practice being on liquids and I must admit that it is the hardest thing. I am determined to stick to it. I do not want to have any problems post op because I brought them on because I can't keep my mouth closed. My brother-in-law had trouble with the diet. My poor sister was the stomach police for one month. He did well, dropped 88 pounds. I have to keep busy not to think about food. I have cleaned my refrigerator completely of all ills. Just liquids, Protein liquids as per my nutrition booklet. Lydia

    August 2011 Bandsters????

Hello, My surgery date is tomorrow, July 26.
  19. Surgery tomorrow 7/26

  20. Hi, I am new to the site. I, too, am being banded tomorrow. I am waiting to hear from hospital with time. I am trying to remain cool, calm and collective, but it is still at the back of my mind. Trying to keep busy but still there. I am positive and will say prayer tonight for speedy recovery and protection throughout procedure. It has been over a year since I started the journey. I just returned from a trip to Las Vegas. I had a great time. I was very careful with what I ate and did a lot of walking. Good luck to all. I will try to post tomorrow night. My surgeon requires an overnight hospital stay. I have all my meds and Protein shakes at home as well as everything I will need. Stay positive. God bless. Lydia

    Dumping

Dumping syndrome does not occur with the band. This is more common with the Roux-n-Y procedure. Dumping syndrome is rapid gastric emptying as a result of consumption of sugars and carbs. It sets off a chain of events that is not very nice. Follow-up with your healthcare provider. Lydia

60 Day Liquid Diet - Countdown

When did you get banded? Was it recent? Good luck. From all that I am learning, I find that one of the hardest hurdles is the liquid diet. Lydia
