    Post-op Challenges

Hi Ladies, Yes, it is a great feeling. It is great to have control over oneself. I am sure there will be many more challenges in the next upcoming weeks but I am ready for them. I don't ever want to see the numbers on the scale as high as they were. We can all do this ladies. It is being strong-willed and saying "No" to temptations by food or by friends or even loved ones who may taunt or tempt you; it is merely a test. Thank god I have great support system from my family. Mom was with me the first few days after I came home from hospital and she did not want to eat in front of me. I said, No way mom. You go ahead and cook something good for you. I will just enjoy the aromas. It did not bother me. I told her, eat the nice steak in the freezer since it will be a while before I can have any. It is all mind over body. Once I transition over to maintenance, I have already made myself a promise to follow a health eating regimen. I teach nursing and have a crazy lecture schedule, so I know that going forward this fall, I need to pack my meals so I have can eat without skipping meals and eating "junk" full of empty fat calories. A year from now I want to look back and say "I am glad it was worth it." So, my journey of a "thousand miles" continues forever. Have a great day. Lydia
  2. Hi Everyone is doing great. Banded 7/26, discharged 7/29 due to an esophagitis. All healed now. On discharge from hospital, weighed in reflecting a 13 lbs down [269 on admission]; I am down 23 lb. I stopped weighing daily until official weigh in on Friday; prior to that I had dropped weight because my weight climbed up to 275 from my original first visit weigh in at 253. In April, I started to diet and walk and dropped down to 265 then I went on vacation, I was careful but upon return the scale reflected 269 morning of surgery. My ankles kept swelling up. All of this has disappeared and my ankles look normal and thin. In total: 30 lb loss. Keep up the good work. Lydia
  3. This evening I met my first challenges. I had to attend a meeting and it was being held in an Italian restaurant. I arrived at the restaurant and no one had ordered. We started our meeting, I slowly sipped on my water. Before leaving the house, I took my protein shake, one of the recommended low-fat yogurts on my list and a bottle of water. Since I had travel time on the bus then subway, I sipped protein shake. After half hour, I had the yogurt slowly. This fills me up fast. We started teh me...

  4. I weighed myself when I left the hospital. I developed a bad esophagitis and needed to stay an extra two days for UGI and EGD. When I left, I asked for a scale and it recorded 13 pounds down [i had surgery 7/26 and discharged 7/29]. I weighed myself every day from the time I got home until yesterday. I will wait for the first official weigh-in on Friday morning. My scale is pretty much in sync with the scale my dietician used in the doctor's office. Weighing everyday can freak a person out especially if it fluctuates due to Fluid balance. By Friday I should be over the 25 lb mark. I can't wait until I am out of the 240's. Lydia

    "Skinny Bitch"

Hello guys, Banding went well, however, developed a bad esophagitis and discharge was held because I could not tolerate fluids. Had an UGI plus an EGD. Banding was fine, just the eosphagus was super inflammed. On medication and feeling better. I was discharged on Friday. Today is post-op day 4 and doing well so far. Still on phase I (all liquids) until tomorrow. Just making sure my esophagus heals slowly. liquids are second nature. Strong will power so far. On Monday, I will start phase II, full liquids, sugar-free. Have all the necessary items in house. I do get full fast. I sip two ounces at a time and every 20 minutes because I get full fast. If you push too much, it causes discomfort. Today, mom made me some homemade chicken Soup, she strained the carrots and chicken and just left me broth. I had half a bowl and could not finish it. Drinking my Protein shakes. I am using Uninjury which is really great tasting even when mixed with Water. On Monday, I can start skim milk so will mix with such. Great news is................17 pounds gone. I can see the face thining out. All clothes are big and pants are falling off.

  20. Hi NYBandster. I just had my banding done on july 26 by Dr. Gibbs. Her care was superb. I had to stay beyond discharge due to a bad esophagitis. The banding went well. I am on medication for the esophagitis. Still on clears. I had an upper Gi plus a scoping. Dr. Gibbs wanted to know why I was having discomfort upon taking fluids. I am home. Down 13 pounds this week.

    August 2011 Bandsters????

My surgeon requests UGI. I had both this week while in hospital since my discharge was held because I had difficulty with fluids. It was a bad esophagitis. The banding was fine and when the endoscope was passed, it passed through easily to duodenum. I am on medication for the esophagitis and clears. I get full fast. so far taking in 2 ounces the most and I am full. I am down 13 pounds this week...
