    Gaining weight

You have just put yourself and your body through a major ordeal. It takes a while, and not to mention the fluids they give you, the amount of fluid you are retaining...and albiet, the weight will come off...it is not instantaneous. Hang in there. Focus on healing and not so much the scale. It will happen, I promise

    Low fat soup ideas?

One of my favorites...and easy at that..is a can of refried beans and a can of chicken broth. Whisk these together while heating...top with some cheese and it is almost a mexican soup. I also add some salsa and sour cream to it. Very filling!

    Labor Day Challenge

I am in. I got back on the wagon today after fluctuating a few of the same lbs this month. I have restriction..Im sure I could have a little more, but I am still restricted enough and started exercising today too. Low carbs (not no carbs) and I usually have carbs in the evening with dinner....it has worked thus far with a loss (101 days since my surgery) of 30 lbs. I have a formal to go to On September 24th. That is 6.5 weeks. I hope to be down at least 10lbs by then. Exercising and mindful eating. Good Luck!

    How can this be???

I have 5.5ccs in my band too. Just a question, what kind of food are you eating? I find that if I eat protein and "solid" food, then I am not too hungry but if I eat softer food...I get hungrier sooner. Not much help I know.....I'm sorry. Are you still losing?

    Alcohol post-op?

Shoot, I didn't even catch that! I agree completely!

    Alcohol post-op?

In my opinion (totally my opinion) I think that the affect is felt more because of the deficit of food calories we consume. I don't think that the effect is felt because of metabolizing or anything else but the lack of food. Before my surgery if I barely ate (and anyone can contest to this) my buzz was MUCH faster than if I ate before going out. I will say that my alcohol consumption has cut down ALOT...and it does only take a small amount of alcohol to get me tipsy. I have to watch it, I will be stumbling drunk by the second drink (I drink liquor not beer).
  7. Celeste, I was thinking the same thing.....Adagrey, help a sista out  lol. Interesting read please share! K
  8. How many of you have had experiences with throwing up since your banding? Is it something you do after a fill? Have you ever? What are the chances of slipping due to this? (THESE are all questions regarding getting stuck..not bulimic tendencies :grouphug: )Thank You for all of your help! K

    Stomach Irritation or Slippage??

Ashley, Glad to hear that. I know what you mean about the time to get to your doctors. Mine is almost three hours away. That time in the car for a fifteen minute appointment sucks. Good luck and keep us posted on it!

    Stomach Irritation or Slippage??

Ashley, I hope it is getting better. I just wanted to say that maybe it is irritation from the motrin? I was given a laundry list of meds not to take and first on the list is mortrin/ibuprophen. Aleve and naproxen was on there also. I would call your doctor and see if a small unfill will help. Good luck!

    Nothing stays down

You need to go to your doctor. Maybe a slipped band, or eroded? Good Luck! You should not feel like this!
  12. Pickles, Sometimes it is good for some of us to see the hard task of living with a band. Letting US know that it is normal to have problems, to have second thoughts and to know that it is normal to have these things. I LOVE MY BAND, that being said, I have figured out how it is just as hard work with the band as without. I am glad you got your port fixed and wish that it hadn't taken so long for you. Kudos to you for the losses...and I must say, you are an inspiration. I get stuck more since my fill last Friday (I have a total of 5.5 in a 10cc band) and thought for a day or two that maybe I had a slipped band. I have taken a step back, and taken a stand to stop rushing. I think my problem is eating too fast and too big of bites. It's hard. Just as hard as with traditional weightloss I think. Have a great day!

    Scales

Ok, I just weighed. According to my scale, I am 224.5 (I have already drank coffee and eaten today..so that is normal) and my BMI is ready??????? 49%. ALWAYS 49% and the last time I weighed at 240..it was 49%. SO I say, spend the money on a good digital, but don't worry about BMI. The lower your weight, the lower your BMI. Take it with a grain of salt!

    Scales

PuppyBandit, I have a tanita (albiet an older model) and bought it for the BMI. I will say though, I'd have been just as good with a regular scale, that doesnt do BMI. It is very iffy, and I say there is no way I am 49.5 according to my scale at least the last time I weighed. Hmmm, I think I will go see now what it says.
  15. Let me start by saying..totally my opinion. That being said, if you are eating, and chew chew chewing your food as you are supposed to (soup with bits in it-I know..hard to CHEW soup, right?) and you are full, with no pain afterwards (pain being that overlyfull feeling some may experience with overeating at a...say...all you can eat buffet, you should have nothing to worry about. I have heard this and that regarding streching your pouch, some saying it is a myth, some saying it is not. Not sure what to think on that one. If you are satiated and not overly full, don't fret- (I say). Just watch the fat and calories in that soup..might be a little high? I do not know..as I have never been to a panera. GOOD LUCK!
  16. I agree with Me3, when she says that you need to be 1000% honest with the process. As for the BMI and co morbidities....I think every dr and even insurances have different ideas as to what exactly they are. I wish you luck.
  17. So today, as usual I stepped on the scale. It read the numbers I knew it would...a loss of 24lbs. AWESOME? YES! Sometimes though, it is discouraging. I am a compulsive weigher and that will never change. It keeps my eating into perspective...(yes, my band does the biggest part of the perspective part) and that will never change either. I took my measurements a while back after my surgery. I thought to myself today, let me see, although my clothes fit differently, and I am in between sizes, and some STILL do not fit, let me see what kind of change my body has done. I couldn't believe it, after measuring all the parts that I did before...I have a total loss of 30 inches. This is fantastic for me. It keeps my spirits up and I know I have made the right decision. Do I slip up sometimes and eat the wrong foods? YES. Who doesn't? As I said in a previous post, it takes a while to reprogram years and years of bad choices and eating. I am 55 days out and loving my life AND MY BAND. I wear better clothes, I am more active, and I cannot help but be so very excited for what is to come. I would make this choice 100 times over again. I LOVE being a BANDITA!

    Embarassed

I too have done it, more than I care to admit. HOWEVER, I will say that sometimes it is because of the "overeating" sometimes it is because of the consistency, and sometimes...it is just because I want the taste. OCD? Maybe. Will it stop? For me, probably not, but I get all my other calories and such in daily. As for the cheetos, watch them. I found out in the way beginning, that they were one of the first foods I could get down. Sliders, fat pills...whatever, I ate them. I only hurt myself. I do not buy them anymore for my boys because of it. Good luck with everything! AND remember, it is a VERY big adjustment, and it takes time to reprogram yourself of 20+ years of eating badly or wrong! One day at a time.

    1st visit didn't help

First off, let me say that you DID do a good thing! As for your appt, I am sorry it went so badly. Let me ask you this, have you been taking the pills whole already? If so, than I say continue on. If you haven't, are they something that you ABSOLUTELY NEED? Forgo them all together. I don't know of anyone who stops their meds for a week and then goes back on them (at least I dont know any..not saying there arent any). As for clear liquids.....did your doctor tell you when he did the surgery or before.....what the time frame is with liquids and purees and such? EVERY DOCTOR IS DIFFERENT..but I will say, I was on liquids (NOT CLEAR) from the day after my surgery, soups and such, and I was told a week out, I could start soft and pureed foods (not in that order lol). BUT as for the sweets, everything in VERY LITTLE moderation I say, it is also why I chose the band. Not that I want to eat all that, as I realize that most of THAT was what contributed to my weight problem in the first place. I have had sweets...small amounts and it has not affected much of my weightloss. I would say (and this is just me) I would start having liquids other than clear....soups (without meat chunks, or puree them) and protein shakes, applesauce, jello, puddings...just make sure you are liquifying those things before you swallow. I wish you luck, and say you did the right thing, don't let that oof bring you down.

    Cocktails anyone???

I thought I was the only one who did this! My friends laugh at me..(but they don't mind drinking it!) I also use diet cran, and some orange vitamin zero....with vodka. YUMMO!

    Soda soda soda

I had diet soda this past Saturday. I haven't had it since my surgery (4/29). It was nice...HOWEVER, I shook it up until ALL the fiz was gone. Sometimes you just want some diet soda. It didn't affect me AT ALL. If you just gotta have it, and you dont mind it, shake it up.....still get the flavor, with none of the hurt! :smile2:

    Post First fill Hunger

*according to my doctor* and I say these words with the most respect....a half a cup of food should last about four hours. Obviously PROTEIN first, then non starchy veggies. I would say that you are almost to your sweet spot, but that is just me (and I am fairly new.) Good Luck!
  23. I agree with everyone else, about the depression and therapy. I think you need to talk to someone. Maybe an anti depressant would help you. As for the ADHD, not trying to sound rude, but most of the ADHD medicines are a type of amphetamine, thus the hunger loss associated with it. I don't think that this is her problem. I too have PCOS. Are you on metformin? It can help with alot of the side effects of PCOS and help to level out your body. ALSO, the band sister that said carbs are not her friend....this is true with most PCOSers......we typically have syndrome X or insulin resistance that interferes and helps us to gain weight or keep weight. The metformin can help this also. I say try to cut back your carbs...and seek some help with your emotional eating. How much support do you have? (At home or in person?) I too am worried about you. Keep us posted.

    April bandsters

Ravyn, Without sounding rude, let me point out to you that you are at a lighter weight than many of us who are losing consistantly (or should I say those others losing consistantly..for I am stuck at 20 lbs lost in five weeks) disappointing yes, but less than I was before. It may take you a little longer to lose. How many calories are you eating? I think I havent been losing because I shocked my body into starvation mode. I am eating what I want but MUCH MUCH smaller portions and sticking to better choices. Good Luck and I look forward to hearing about your progress. Hang in and stay for support!
