Please forgive me for sounding ignorant, but you have lost your motivation? 35 lbs is a measureable amount. Get help with the problem in your head, if that is what you think it is.....I am not ashamed to say it, I go to counselling. Not for my problems with food, but other things, that help me to turn to food. I too occasionally get stuck and throw up...more than others! Take your time, think about what you are doing...keep a journal. Stop eating JUNK. WORK YOUR BAND, it wont work for you. Use the tool that you spent 20K on, and good luck!

I would call my doctor about the motrin. I was told (and this by not only my doctor but at the surgery seminar) that we should not take motrin/ibuprophin. They also told me no aleve. I have been banded 10 months almost...and sometimes what I wouldn't do for a motrin or two!

Can someone give me some pointers?
kellyjoiii posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I went on Wednesday for a fill. I haven't had one since August, and told my Doctor I just wanted it tweeked a little. He put in 1cc and had to remove .5cc because I was too tight. I stuck with the liquids, mushie schedule he requires for two days. Yesterday, I had oatmeal w/flax for breakfast (oat revolution pack one serving) and I was hungry again almost an hour and a half later. I had cheese for lunch (mozarella stick) and I was hungry again about an hour and a half after that. I am eating little portions so as not to throw up (Yes, I have had problems with this in the past-hence the long time between fills) and some soup for "lunch2". I cannot seem to keep ful for very long. Is it because about thirty minutes after, I start drinking liquids again? Basically, washing the food down? I know oatmeal and soup are typically mushies and sliders...but come on!? Less than two hours? I need to stick with more solid food? Protein, this I know. Should I wait longer to drink? I know I am not getting my recommended liquids in the day. I have been banded for almost 10months now, and this is the first time for this to be happening to me. Any recommendations? How much protein/food should I be eating at a time? About three quarters of a cup of food, i.e. 3 ozs. protein, and 3/4 ozs of veggies? HELPPPPPPPPP?! I have 6.5-7.0 ccs in my band. THANK YOU for any help in advance! -

Thank You, I guess I should have mentioned that. I hit 70lbs lost yesterday (although I am back up a lb...water weight and such, yes, I am a scale "whore" and use it to keep me on track). I know, nothing to shake a stick at. I lost two lbs since my fill (those stubborn two I have been gaining and losing since Thanksgiving) and will just keep on keepin on. I was able to eat an egg this morning (something I haven't done-basically it was a poached egg without any bread) and I will just eat when hungry. Small portions in keeping with the protein majority. 3 meals, or 6 meals, as long as I am losing...I will be happy. I am coming to the end though too, where it will be a little more difficult to take off..those last 20 stubborn lbs Thank you ladies! -
Stuck at current weight
kellyjoiii replied to tmphillips's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you sure you are getting enough calories in? Stoke the fire a little....up your calories (smartly) for a few days and see if it starts coming off again. And true, it does take your body a little bit to catch up. And I am not sure how tall you are ....but 184...the lesser you weigh it seems the harder to come off (IMO). I have been wrestling with the same four lbs since the holidays....Good luck. -
Shout out to ElfiePoo aka Melody
kellyjoiii posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Melody, I was reading some postings baout someone hating their band and got through page four or something before I hit your post. I am almost nine months out and 65-67 lbs down since getting my band. Something you said resonated within me so profoundly and I want to thank you. I have always said, my band is a tool....not a miracle cure. I always took that with a grain of salt, and reading your post....you stated (an I didn't copy and paste but) that once you stopped thinking the band was a replacement for a diet....it started working for you. THANK YOU. I never thought of it in that sense....I knew I could eat the same way as previously and no, I try not to, but that hit me so profoundly and I thank you for it. My day will be better, and better choices will be made. Have a wonderful day and again, Thank you. -

I have not been through this...But I have two questions for you. What do you have in you band? (CCwise) and would a fill help? Don't feel that way about your doctor...you are only defeating yourself. Good Luck.

Why so many Pre-Ops in the Post-Op section?
kellyjoiii replied to sekinj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree...we are here to support everyone (and recieve support from everyone). I was a "troller" as I wanted to know what to expect, see the type of experiences that others have or are having. It is about the information. Troll on! -
My Surgeon is Anti-LapBand or Anti-Me?
kellyjoiii replied to AmyC315's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As for you not knowing what band you have.....I thought your band was actually "registered". I recieved a packet and a card (temporary) that I actually went in and registered with lapband....it states that I have a LAPBAND AP STANDARD....10cc. Also a system id. DEMAND this info...for yourself. GET A NEW DOCTOR. I agree with the last poster...it is a science, NOT an art. Although I have not seen my doctor since a week after my surgery, I know I could if I wanted. I deal with his PA for fills and question...and the office is great at answering anything I may ask. If they do not know, they will find out. You should have some kind of a relationship with them. Honey, find a new doctor and let them know what has happened thus far. This should be a good experience, not a bad one. AND a fill WILL help you. -
Is My Nutriionst keeping me fat part 2 (Help)
kellyjoiii replied to rosstheboss's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Forgive me for looking dumb, but how are you eating 1800 calories a day with the band? I cannot eat any where around that unless the food is fat ladened or smothered in something. -
Lets do this for thye FINAL time.
kellyjoiii replied to ashea0515's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am with HummingBird on this one. I love my band and all the great things it has brought me. I think there may be different issues for different people, but all in all...if you ask any one of us..we would do it again. Me, I would do it twentyfold. Th little things in life that I didn't realize I was missing, or was just too blind ot see them. My self confidence is through the roof and my boys (ages 9 and 6) are able to put their arms around me and touch their hands now. Little things. I have issues with my band being that I don't tolerate many meats and stuff, but have to say that other than a little puking....I have had no problems. Even with the hair loss and such. (Other than no clothes to fit me But this is a good thing) Good luck! -
What about Booze after a LapBand?
kellyjoiii replied to BobBigBoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink. I get drunk. Lmao. I think they tell you that because of the calories. I do liquor with no calorie or very low calorie mixers...i.e. diet cran, crystal light. No beer or soda for me. Some people's doctors allow it though. I do not drink as often as I did before...used to do the same thing as you, a drink after a stressful day, but usually lead to more. I might have a drink (did last night) but only one. We are supposed to eat our calories...not drink them. And I suppose it may be the unhealthiness of it (not the red wine but the liquor). Also, with a buzz typically it tends to uninhibit you , which leads to mindless eating. -
New Biggest Loser 9/21 - Lapband Failure Contestant
kellyjoiii replied to vikki99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I said before, Allie had the gastric sleeve, and two other girls..burgundy and jessica had the lap band. The sleeve is the one where they cut most of your stomach away, and leave a banana shaped pouch, however, there is no rerouting/bypassing done. I'm curious, did they (J and :rolleyes2: have their bands removed? Probably, I would think. As for Allie, she was voted off this week, so she isnt even a factor anymore. I think that it is a little unfair, if their bands are still in place, as "some" restriction.... you would think....would be there. I LOVE my band. And success that is with me..is because I am working with my band. I would do it a hundred times over. -
New Biggest Loser 9/21 - Lapband Failure Contestant
kellyjoiii replied to vikki99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three of the girls did have weightloss. Allie was the VBGS and Burgundy and Jessica had "failed" lapbands. I personally think its a crock of bs, that they had "failed" LBS. I agree with the person who said it before in this thread.........that the band did not fail them, they failed their band. As for eating and exercising, the Biggest Loser is giving them a jumpstart and tools....seriously, none of us have 6 hours a day to workout, or BOB and Jillian there to "motivate/terrorize" us into exercising, but the idea is to give them the tool to continue after they leave the ranch. I watch the show and have since last year, but I KNOW why I am fat. I DID IT to myself. I chose the LBS and if it doesnt work for me, I am not allowing it to, or making the right choices. That's what makes me angry. I must admit, it is quite the motivator though, as I got up and exercised for the first time in a LONG while. (again, my choice). I hate to hear fat people sit around and say "I don't know why I am so fat". Jillian explained it last night. Calories consumed vs. calories expended. Simple math. Did anyone see those sandwiches? I could have torn one of them up. See? That's why I was fat. My choices and decisions relect upon my success. ME. *stepping down from my soapbox now* :::::::This post is not to offend anyone::::::: Oh and I am going to be so freakin p'd off if Tina walks out next week............. -
Actually, according to most, and going by my doctor and a few friends doctor..no, pcos is not a comorbidity. Usually most insurance companies only list diabetes (not pre diabetes) high blood pressure and DOCUMENTED sleep apnea. Correct me anyone if I am wrong....and then of course is your BMI. If it is over 40, you almost always automatically qualify. Sorry and good luck. Kelly

Hi everyone. I just have a few questions. I am four months out (April 29th) and to date have lost 39lbs. I just had my third fill on Wednesday of last week. I have 6.5ccs in my 10cc band. Here I go, did many of you find that you cannot eat alot of the foods that you did previously, after you hit (Sweet Spot) a majority of your band? I have a horrible time lately (the last week) with meats and grains. I try to eat a little grains as possible, but this week, none. They just will not go down. I eat some meat and I am wondering...Am I overeating? I stop when I feel the full feeling, but the pressure just builds and builds. I have thrown up a few time over the last week (at least once a day, maybe twice) due to the choices I am making. I have no problems with liquids, soups and mashed potatoes but am not having luck with much else. Am I too tight? Have I just not given the band enough time out from this last fill to "kindof loosen" and give it a few more days? Will it loosen a little? I decided today to start back on protein drinks and I am taking my vitamins. I woke last night almost choking and coughin (just once before I took a few sips of water) and then awoke again almost choking on the water that came back up. Is this the "dreaded" night cough? It has only happened once, so I guess in order to know or not, I'll keep an eye on it the next few nights. Anyone have any insight? Yes, I could call my dr and will in a bit. I just hate to drive four hours up....for a false alarm. Thank You for the help.

No offense, but I beg to differ here. It can and sometimes does flip. There are some people on here that it has happened to and I know someone personally it has happened to. As for the reason, I don't know, possibly the stitches cam loose? Do a search for some previous posts about port flipping and see if that helps! Good Luck!

Very good question. I look forward to the answers that come with it. I think I may be at mine, but alas, my brain hasn't caught up with my band. I am having a hard time, and am going to stick to liquids and protein shakes to see if I can get the swelling down (if that is what it is) and go from there. There are not many foods I can tolerate as I did before. Meat is almost a no go for me (at least this week) and I am afraid that I may be too tight. Who knows, this is such a learning process that it is almost overwhelming. Good luck!

Four months out..three fills..few questions?
kellyjoiii replied to kellyjoiii's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
THANK YOU, I never had it explained to me that way  I am going to be very mindful of myself today and beyond. I had a protein shake this morning..it went well, and no problems...so it must be my habits. They are so hard to break. -
Joonbug, I am sorry to hear this...but I will say and many others will tell you, it does get better. Many of us had that "What the EFF did I do to myself?" moment and some of us still do. Everyone who knows about my band find it funny that I always comment...."Man, it's times like this that I wish I had my "big" stomach!" Honey, work with it, and your band will bring you all the possibilities you will allow it. Use your tool and allow yourself your healing time..before you make up your mind.

I too am a 38-40DD and wish someone would have told me not to bring an underwire bra to the hospital, however, mine is because of my one incision, nothing else. It was bad for the first week or two, but it gets better. I have no problems now

I like alot of the other banders also leave the bread behind as well as the fries. When my family wants mcdonalds, I eat a mcdouble..no fries and none of the bread. It keeps me full for a while although I am going for a fill on the 25th. I can eat more than I should, but stop...because of overeating, learning my lesson and throwing up. I may get hungrier earlier than three to four hours, but stick mostly to the protein portion and less "smart" carbs. The more slider foods I eat, ie. cottage cheese, yogurt and such (sweets included) do nothing for me but make me hungrier in the long run. I have 5.5ccs on a 10cc lapband. I have lost 35lbs since April 29th (some of it gain/lose over and over) and as of yet, I have not started exercising...except more walking like at shops and parking lots. I eat what I make my family, but have made smarter choices for them also. If we have pasta, it is smarter filled with fiber (not the ww because we dont like the texture) and I may take 1/4c of it. I eat mostly my protein first. Try that.....solid protein stays in your pouch longer and also stick to the drinking rule, nothing 30 mins before -and I go 45-60 after eating as not to wash my food down...so to speak. Good luck! Let us know how that fill goes~!
