  1. So, it's been 3 years since I got my band. I started at 249.5 and today weighed in at 190.5 (my lowest was 163) but from what I have seen and heard, almost everyone either levels out, or becomes complacent and gains some back. That's me, Mz. Complacently.....who is disgusted with herself. Today is a new day, and one to make better choices. I will get back to it, one better decision at a time, and stop being so hard on myself. I refuse to be a statistic. Thank you for listening
  2. I have recently found carb masters yogurt. Flavored for 4grms carbohydrate....and 8 protein

    Failure......but today......

Amberd0717, Good luck. We can and will succeed. Maybe you should look into a fill? It's a new day. Make one small change at a time. Stop drinking with your meals. I too do it sometimes we can do this!!!
  7. I haven't seen my original surgeon (Miami) in over two years. My replacement (South Carolina) was SO much different from my original. He would do any fill, told me to go on no BRPP (bread rice pasta potatoes-quinoa and so much more was a nono also) and I felt like I failed every time I slipped something in my mouth. I lost 90 lbs doing it the first time without this second guy.....OK, I'm getting off topic......STRAWS were a no no as well as CHEWING GUM. I need to make an appointment to see my new doctor (Houston, TX) and see how he is

    Failure......but today......

See, this is what I am talking about this support! Kris150, while reading your post, I got chills. It's amazing to connect to someone in the same boat (and I am aware there are so many of us). My chills were from your very last comment. The guilt trip. The guilt is the worst, and when it is so engrained in your head, and heart....it's hard to let it go. Which brings me to my title. Failure.....I know I am not a failure, but when you are continually picking yourself up after "breaking" your resolve to do something, it gets a little tiring. THAT BEING SAID, I will be a cheerleader for us all...(all of those psych classes in college bring out the counselor in me ) continually picking yourself up from "falling" is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. It shows that we are not failures, but actually fighters. Fight on my friends, because you have shown me what it is that helped me make my decisions in the first place. Strength! I now would like to know, what kind of eating plan, many of you follow. I always always always go back to low carb. Which I am following now. I almost exist on dairy ALONE...cheese is a big part of my diet, so no paleo for me. But I DO utilize ALOT of their recipes because they tend to be "low carb". My favorite snack/meal is thick cucumber rounds (about 10) patted dry, with cream cheese (2 tbs) a heavy sprinkle of Greek seasoning by Cavenders and sliced kalamata olives (9) on top.....mmmmmmm, I know what's for Breakfast (126 calories, 6 carbs-1 fiber=5 net, 3 protein) K

    Failure......but today......

Thank you everyone! It's not how many times we fall, it's about how many times we get back up and dust ourselves off. It is a wonderful day, and I refuse to give in. Especially with such wonderful support like y'all. We can do this!!

Starting over, 5 years after surgery

Wow, I think I could have written that post myself! Same thing happens to me. We all fall, it's just how fast we pick ourselves back up

    5 day pouch test

Stept04, It is something that veteran banders do to get back to basics. You should not be doing it until you are at least a year out. I started it today, but next Monday marks three years for me. I have never done it, but am before my husband comes home. We all fall off "the wagon" here and there...and so many of us learn to eat around our bands (e.g. slider foods, and junk food) and supposedly, it is. Reminder to utilize your tool and get back to eating the way we did/do at the beginning of our journey. THAT being said, I am SO glad for the first two days I was not planning on going far from home!!

Starting over, 5 years after surgery

Hi ladies! I need to come more often there are many more things I SHOULD do. I started the 5day pouch test today. I am. Horrible with sticking to things.......but alas, I WILL do this. I started at 187 this morning. We shall see. My husband comes home Friday, and I will then be on solid protein, that is day 5. I made an awesome broccoli cheese soup in my vitamix a few minutes ago. I swear nothing but junk food shrouds every show you may be watching. It is rather disgusting. We shall see how this test transpires the rest of the week. Good day y'all!

    Help

I too agree with the last two girls, I have had my band for almost 3yrs. I vomit, have 7.4 ccs in my band and haven't been filled in two yrs or seen in over a yr.my band was fine, and I have no problems at all. You should have researched the surgery and asked more questions before making the decision to have a MAJOR surgery. It should not have been taken lightly.

Susiecat, I actually have a "hard time" with pasta. And rice, and bread...but I have 7.4 (or did) in my band. Mashed potatoes were a staple for me back in the beginning, but yes, I realized fast what sliders worked for me. I know several people who have the band and we all have accommodated our bands and learned certain ways to "eat around" it. Shameful yes.

Starting over, 5 years after surgery

Ugh, starting over. It is something I do ever day. EVERY day. I need to get back to it. I have the stuff, I just need to wrap my brain around it. I find that I cook for my family, what it is that I "can't" or shouldn't have. I just wish I could get back into the mindset of it all.......I am a total emotional eater.

Starting over, 5 years after surgery

I have spent the last half an hour reading this thread. Very glad I found it. I love my band. I hate my band. Would I do it over again? Absolutely. I haven't had a fill in almost two years and my bandiverssary is on the 29th of this month. Three years. I originally lost 86 but gained about 30 back. I am back on the down but eating low carb/lots of protein and lc veggies. It is working. I will post more after work, but I love hearing all the support that is here. Have a great day y'all!

Why is the band so unpredictable?

Make sure, when you are allowed to eat solids, your meat is moist. Pork also gives me a hassle, often it comes right back up. Try everything ! It changes from day to day.

    5 Years Later

I am so glad I did get banded. I started at 249.5 and currently weigh at 187.5. I hate when drs won't give a fill. I had a problem with the last dr. It's the whole reason I got banded also.

    5 Years Later

I had mine two and a half years ago, and haven't had a fill since March 2011. I too, was wondering the same thing. I need to get a referral, to get into see a doctor here in Houston. The last doctor I had wouldn't even talk about a fill. He was all no starches, bread, grains......I have slowly gained weight also.....good luck, keep me posted!

    Despetate Newbie

I agree, you should be drinking protein drinks, relying on those the most. Take tiny sips of anything you are eating or drinking. And as everyone else said, instructions are different with every dr. I was onto foods by day five. (albeit soft foods!) nothing bigger than a pencil eraser and chewy chew, chew. Measure your food. No more than 2oz at a time. If you are truly hungry when done with that, add another oz. but make sure you are truly hungry. As for the discomfort, in your esophagus, maybe because you are "over eating or too fast" take your time. Remember that things are swollen too....and after you have any kind of incidence with being stuck or such, you also swell. Just slow down, think and drink your protein shakes. (low sugars) and get ahold of the dr. They should be answering your calls!
