Dear God... I'm Always Freeeeeeeeeeeeeezing!
slikchik10 replied to nomorecupcakes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's all about burning off the body fat instead of burning up the carbs the carbs you eat. I froze after my lap band in 2007 and here I am again freezing my stuff off! Totally normal in the way the body processes energy and your metabolism. Welcome to the club. -

Question about feeling full in chest after eating
slikchik10 replied to OBXgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all. I would suggest being careful of the "full in the chest " feeling. I'm 4 mos. out from a lapband to sleeve revision and my Dr. told me that the full in my chest feeling meant the food was backing up in my esophagus. Since learning this, I pay much closer attention to my "full" feeling. Also, he fixed a hiatal hernia while doing the revision. So, all of this has helped me to eat slower and set things aside, trying to notice how food moves through my system. Best of luck. -
My understanding is that because your body is burning the calories on your body, not extra calories in food, that's why we're cold. I can always tell when I've eaten too many carbs because I get warm again. My ex hubs started getting cold when he had to start eating better to deal with his diabetes. It all boils down to how our bodies are now processing food. :-)

Extra fluids during the "visit" is a must for me. I can feel my skin get really dry and I become extremely thirsty. I don't have to bump it up more than 3-4 cups, but it means I'm sipping all day. That said....having some kind of loss after the visit is always guarenteed. :-)

To Flu Shot or Not to Flu Shot
slikchik10 replied to CarryOn7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like you I'm not a flu shot girl myself. The only time I have gotten sick is when I've gotten the shot. I would look at the Vitamin list on the Airborn and see if you can get the immune supplements another way. Or...just your fizzy one go flat...then drink away. Either way...hand washing, hand washing, hand washing. I swear by this....and I've taught in elementary & middle schools for 15 yrs. with little to no sickness. Hope this helps. Ps--follow the Dr. Advice and go with what works for you -
May sleevers results so far!
slikchik10 replied to lexi6510's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey...I'm right there with you. My date was 5/20 and I'm down 39# myself. However....I've not been this weight in 22 years! Also, I saw a former colleague today (who I had not seen in a few weeks) and her jaw dropped. I might not be seeing the scale move, but according to her the body/face are showing the change. So, YAY for me! Chin up....as long as the scale is moving down, no matter how slow, it's going down. Which is the direction we want it to move. :-) -
Got this from the Biggers Loser FB page....thought it appropriate for e times we may doubt our choice. Enjoy!

Has anyone on here HAD LAPBAND than had it removed and got the Gastric Sleeve?
slikchik10 replied to JewelJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yup...my band was in 3/2007 also. Lost 60 lb initially, gained 30 back. Sleeved in May and now I am past my lowest with the band. LOVE the decision to go sleeve. Good luck. -

"You're losing too much weight"
slikchik10 replied to Mrs_Ashley's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Ok, I understand people's perceptions....but I've been wondering/thinking lately that have we as a society forgotten what "normal" actually looks like....which is why so many people make these kinds of comments regarding losing "too" much. I have set mini goals for myself which are really when I was younger, at lower weights. I bet people would now say those were good weights, but back in the day I could catch a cold faster than a date when I was at each of those weights. I think our tolerance of being overweight has become more common place, thus the norm is now skewed. IMHO...just sayin'. :-) -
Feel like I can eat too much...
slikchik10 replied to sherrypep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too feel like I can hold more than I should...but it varies depending on the time of day. Also, I've had to learn what full really feels like compared to "band" full. It's different. Weight loss is going well, so I figure I'll just keep plugging along. -
If you had heartburn with your band, do you have it with your sleeve?
slikchik10 replied to ribearty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I too had my band for 6 yrs and was revised to the sleeve on 5/20. I had horrible GERD to the point of sleeping propped up 6 mos. prior to surgery and never full night's worth for about 4 yrs. (even though on Pepcid all that time). Surgery was all in one....band removal, sleeve, but the added bonus was finding a hiatal hernia I didn't know I had. Post-op my Dr. first had me on on liquid Zantac then Prilosec for a month (all about 2 mos. total). This all said, I feel GREAT! I sleep like the dead again and haven't had any problems since. Oh...I also had my gallbladder removed back in 2004...that is something that adjusted my eating before any bariatric surgeries. We're all different, but I wish you all the best! Take care. :-) -
"Why thank you!" . We've earned it. Enjoy the feeling.

Kaiser SO CAL? Surgeons
slikchik10 replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. is Evon Ebraham. My situation is a bit different because I had a lapband that was giving me major problems. There is a 12 week required set of classes that Kaiser will have you do. This is the best I've got for ya. Good luck. -
I wasn't sure where to post this, so here goes... I'm just 6 wks out and took a mini vacay close to home for the 4th. Now....any food suggestions when traveling (across country)? I'm going to visit family in a couple of weeks and will be in a rental car traveling around during a those 2 weeks; staying a couple of days with one, a couple with another until I fly home at the end of the month. Help! I don't feel I was a successful this past weekend as I could have been. My activity level as good, but food was a mess. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've been able to get most of my Protein from food with minimal coming from shakes. So...any ideas out there? Thanks!

This app bums me out!
slikchik10 replied to superstarsandi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl....we're doing well. I had surgery on 5/20 and am down 20. I'm not worried about others' results...just mine. That is a full time job! . My Dr. was very pleased with those results today at my appt. so I keep plugging along working the plan. I figure that weight is coming off...not going up, so that is good, right? I will say to keep myself from getting discouraged I find small goals I can meet. For instance, there is this really cute top I bought that was way too tight when I first bought it because the size tag was wrong. My mini goal is to be 'comfortably' in this shirt by vacay in a couple of weeks. I tried it on tonight and it's looser than it was a week ago! I'm super excited. Should be right on target! So, chin up....you're on the downward slide. :-) -
why do we get acid reflux post op
slikchik10 replied to huligoo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know that I would agree w/your Dr. I'm 5 wks out from band/revision and I've had NO issue with the reflux I had prior to surgery. In fact, he found a hiatal hernia & fixed it. He said that the reflux prob shouldn't be an issue any longer. -
5 Months and 94 pounds down (caution, underwear pic)
slikchik10 replied to mom2five's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks for posting this. I'm only 5 weeks out from a band revision and am almost to the lowest I ever got w/my band. I've been wondering if I'll actually lose any beyond that point. Seeing that it can happen lifts my spirits a great deal. People are asking me about my end goal and I've made an initial goal but have been half afraid of thinking of something long term because of how frustrating & disappointing life was with my band. Seeing your success gives me hope that is time my body won't stop and stall out. <hugs>. Thanks! -
Band 2 sleeve in 2days...anxious...and starving :-)
slikchik10 replied to ahsem2bme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 4 wks out and am glad I made this decision. There will be some positive things you learned with the band that you can use to build on. Right now, my mini goal is to get to my band weight again. Once there, I think the true test will begin; can I really lose using an effective tool. You'll do well. Best of luck! PS--down 20 so far.... -
Although I'm just a month out, my surgery was a band revision. I really came to this 2nd decision thinking on what did I at least learn the first time and what is STILL a challenge for me. Boredom eating is it. I've had a few evenings in the past week where I'll catch myself thinking like that again, but since it's in the evening, I go brush my teeth to try and curb the urge. I also participate with writing letters to the troops so I try to write letters when I feel like that since it gets me outside myself instead of focusing on me. The summer weather is full on here so the evenings aren't cooling off all that much...grrr. I also like the post the other day that spoke on how exercise for some just has to be the "job we do." So, on those moments of boredom, my Wii comes out and Just Dance 4 goes in to have a bit of fun, because it has to be my job...and I'm bored. Thanks for the discussion start. :-) PS--being a teacher during the day usually doesn't give me time to be bored at work. Summers can sometimes be my Achilles heel.

I use toddler items. Sippy cups (with enlarged holes) and tiny spoons and forks. These have taught me to think small so when I need to use regular items in public I know what size (sip or bite) to use.

My shoulder pain that lasted that long was from my drain. 30 sec. after removal, gone and haven't seen it since. Best of luck.
