    Any Younger Bansters Here?

Hey everyone! Its good to hear from other Bandsters in their 20's. Im 26 and not banded yet but I will be this summer. I really cant wait to start losing. I am ready to become the athlete I am on the inside. There are so many things I wanna try/continue when I get to goal. Im a Big City girl who is in college in the boonies and I feel, now that I am graduating, that I have missed out on the outdoors. So many people here are into rock climbing, camping, hiking, rafting, etc. The list is endless and I want to try it all. I guess Ill have to do that from Manhattan. Good thing I have lots of friends from western NY. Im soo glad that I found out about the band. I have an option now. I spent so long hating the way I look and getting depressed after going shopping. Even though I LOVE lane Bryant, Im ready to move on.

I Know this is a BIG NO! But...????

According to my surgeon's nutritionist, a soda once in a while shouldnt kill you. but keep in mind that they are empty calories.

getting pressured to do bypass over band!

This is your decision and only yours. YOU have to live with your choice for thr rest of YOUR life. Dont be swayed if the band is what you, in your heart of hearts, want. My perspective is the doctors work for me and my health choices are mine. It was with that perspective that I got my PCP to agree to refer me to a surgeon. They can suggest whatever they want to but if you say "I want the band" theyd better come up with good reasons why you shouldnt get what you want. Dont be steamrolled into an RNY, the risks out number the benefits. (In my opinion and in my case) Whatever you choose make it your choice. Good luck.

How long until I'm not exhausted?

Honestly, you wont even notice it when it happens but there is this moment where you do the elliptical for an hour and still feel like you could do another one. Its a total epiphany and its beautiful.

Now I really want to strangle someone.

As a 26 year old Non-Trad-Undergrad who has worked as and educator, administrator, mentor, and de facto social worker at 2 very underpriviledged High Schools in NYC for 4+ years, I believe that I too am approaching this matter with more maturity than an 18-22 year old undergrad. I understand that Professors are people to, I intend to become one, but as a student I am saddened. The real matter is whether or not flaming and publicly ridiculing a student with a private communication (meant only for the eyes of her teacher) is a proper course of conduct for an educator, the ethical concerns are apparent. Secondly, familiarity with ones direct superior wont or shouldnt protect anyone from the Employee or Student Code of Conduct. These codes usually extend to outside of the campus, including the internet. These usually have very broad ethics codes which frown on "behaviour unbecoming" of a faculty/student/staff member. Thirdly, just because the student and the school are unidentified dose not remove the professional integrity that an educator should exibit. We shouldnt do certain things because they are wrong, not because someone may find out. I see that this board has the potential to become like the "stop having babies" board, mean. So, I am extracting myself from this discussion.

Now I really want to strangle someone.

Now from the other side: As an undergrad who is currently losing her hair, sleep, good complexion and patience with the world because it is final time, I feel for your student. Cut her a little slack, just because you know that her grade is what it is doesnt mean that she knows that. Secondly (this is to all educators and administrators in pedegogical settings), if its so unimportant why was it given? That is just sadistic. Thirdly, that little lab exam may be important to HER, she may hinge her whole identity and self worth on what her grades are. As an educator you know the pressure she and your other students are under, its the most stressful time of the year and their lives. Also I must say that if I were your student, and I came across this thread (murphy's law) I would report your comments to your superiors. It isnt cool to question your students' intellegence in so callous a manner and in such a public forum, with your picture next to it, not to mention the cut/paste from her private email. She may not be patient and she may be just a student but she is still a person and is thusly deserving of a modicum of respect and privacy. This comes from a student who goes to a school where EVERYONE hinges his/her self worth on measly quiz grades the same as huge exams. And in her defense you never got back to her. Im sorry if this comes off as a negative post but I really think that this board is going a little too far. I hope that it is understood that I dont mean this as a personal attack. It is in defense of that student who could be anyone of us. Honestly if I were she, Id be inconsolable.

    Surgery on 12-19-06!

Good for you. I have been thinking about getting braces to go along with my banding, for that full fledged "under construction" feel. Im also a lil afraid that when I loose my weight my teeth will look GIANT. I have a nice sized overbite thats hidden by my cheeks. I hope everything goes grat for you!
  13. *pokes head out from lurking position* Not to nit pick but in the US (where the Duggars are from), MOST Jews, Muslims, Atheists, and people of color arent foreigners. Im a couple of those and Im definately not a foreigner. Forgive this post if thats not what you meant. *bye*

    Who listens to what music?

My 2 favorite artists are Jay-Z and Bjork. If they made a song together I would blast into the sky. Between those two are Michael Buble, Sarah Mclaughlin, Beyonce, Postal Service, Jagged Edge, Lil Wayne and lots of Trance (BT, Motorcycle, Digweed, etc) and Trip-Hop (Portishead, Tricky, etc). Plus I LOVE ALL 90's rock like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, NIN, Bush, Orgy, The Foo Fighters, The Gin Blossoms, Weezer...OMG the list is ENDLESS! Im a child of the 90's for sure. So that means Disney movie tunes too, yes I have Mulan songs on my MP3 player! My MP3 player is a manic mixture of the damnedest tunes. It is CRAZY!

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Jodie I hear ya. Gay guys LOVE me too. I cant hook a straight one who is not sketchy, old, too short, or a houdlum for the life of me. I mean, I have a HUGE range of types I find attractive. All races, ethinicities (there is a difference), nationalities, and religions (as long as they dont want me to convert). I dont even require that they are taller than me. Im 6'1" its a lot to ask. I mean really...WTF! Maybe I not "out there" enough and maybe Im a little stuck up but whatever, its all because I have a poor self image. Tehehehe Im not banded yet but I am definately expecting a beast to be unleashed when I start losing.

    Discrimination Over Your Weight

I have experienced tons of weight discrimintion but the one I really need to vent about is not about me. My best friend (lets call her "T"), who is my twin from another mother, we look very much alike. She's 6'2" Im 6'1" and are usually with 20lbs of each other. However, when she became pregnant her weight (obviously) increased. She went from around 340lbs to around 400lbs. Yesterday, in the Labor and Delivery wing of the top hospital in NYC one of our friends (lets call her D) overheard "T's" personal nurse (good insurance) and another nurse discussing "T". It went like this: T's nurse, who should be ordering a larger bed for the OR, says something inaudable. The Other nurse says loudly, with arms out stretched: Who the Big Fat one? :faint: And T's nures responds seeing D: Shhhh. D called the nurses out saying "Is this patient confidentiality? Do you gossip about all of your patients? You should not be discussing her with her she's not the doctor!" Im not really sure if T heard D retell the story when D returned to the room but I did and I will def make sure heads roll. How dare they behave so disrespectfully. My mother who works in the very same Hospital says that what they did is illegal. Furthermore, this is not the behaviour one expects in the Top Hospital in NY from the staff of its top OB team. This is the hospital I considered going to for my Band, good thing I chose another. This all happened yesterday morning around 4:30am and after having a C section (for which the idiot nurse order the bigger table) T delivered a 10lb 6oz baby girl. I am offically a godmother.

    Shrinking Feet?

Ive been lurking for a couple of weeks, not sure if I ever posted. But I must respond because this makes me quiver with excitement. I love shoes and I too wear a big ole size 11, which isnt bad cuz I'm 6'1". I can relate to the shopping frustration. I would freak if I went down to a 10. Im not banded yet but hope to be very soon. HOW exciting.

    Dr. in Rochester NY area?

hey, dont know of any Dr's around ROC but you can use the Dr. search tool on Obesityhelp.com. Thats how I found my Dr. It gives you patient reviews on most Drs and their affiliated Hospitals or clinics. If you are a selfpay Ive read that there are some good ones in Toronto. Do you know of any support groups around Roc? Im in Geneseo so somewhere in the greater Roc area would be awesome.
