Hi all...My name is Sue and I am about to undergo a change of a lifetime!  Lap Band surgery.  I am excited, scared, a little emotional, and everything in between.  Big step to take.  Some people say this is the "easy" way out.  I've heard it again and again.  Well, for those that say that...walk in our shoes for a day and that concept will slowly go bye-bye!  My highest weight was 252 many years ago.  Right now I was weighed in at 229.  I am 5'3 and will be turning 59 in Sept. 2010.  I may be an oldie to most, but still a goodie.  I was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and to be perfectly blunt...I cried and cried.  I live a very very FULL life and this just brought me to my knees. When my doc said I had to lose some serious weight, I knew that all the other "diets" I've been on just didn't work long term!  You all know the drill.  20 lbs off...15 lbs on.  And so on and so on.  As Dr. Phil would say, "IS it WORKIN' for ya?"  True to myself the answer was always, "NO!"  Soooooo, research I did.  For 3 years!  After much soul searching it was between the RNY or Lap Band.  I finally decided, because of my age group and the amount of weight I need to lose, I would go with the Lap Band.  I am scheduled for May 10, 2010.  I will try and post everyday to share my progress with all.  I am a very open and brutally honest lady and will always tell it like it is...never sugar-coat (no pun intended!) I have gone through most of the pre-op testing...Psychologist consult, Nutritional consult, Lab work, Abdominal Ultrasound, Cardiac consult, 2 seminar attends. Left is Upper Endoscopy (this week) Pulmonary function test...and lose 10 lbs by surgery (down 9 lbs already) AND the biggie...PCP clearance one week before (nerve-racking, to say the least)  Sooooo, there ya have it.  I will be posting many questions and maybe a few answers once I start my journey.  AND...WHAT A RIDE IT IS GOING TO BE!
