Woo Hoo! Just had my first meeting!
Betsyjane replied to Betsyjane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Shawn. We need a rich benefactor who will foot the bill for all this stuff! Think we can do that too? Reading this site allowed me to ask intelligent questions of Dr. Spivak and crew. Yep. I'll keep hanging around. -
How many calories a day do you eat?
Betsyjane replied to Sammysue78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I guess WHAT you eat, whether it's a cup or a half cup, is going to be the biggie. He gave me a list of nutritional guidelines and recommended alot of resources. It may be what everybody else has gotten too, but I'll figure out how to summarize all that stuff and post it. -
How many calories a day do you eat?
Betsyjane replied to Sammysue78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Last night, my Dr said to eat 800 a day, 3 meals of 1 cup of food each. The other bandsters that were there were surprised that he said that. they are succeeding, and are eating 1200. -
For Slow Losers - Excellent Info
Betsyjane replied to BeacheeGirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm curious. And does the band help with your Cushings symptoms? -
No meaning to food....Wow. Wouldn't that be nice.....
-
So what proteins do you usually eat after you've been banded for awhile. I eat alot of chicken breasts now, and I have been reading that chicken is hard to eat after banding.

Dr. Pyhil is a guy who makes a great living saying all those things we'd all like to say to people...but don't....whether it's helpful to them or not.

For Slow Losers - Excellent Info
Betsyjane replied to BeacheeGirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it's like anything else. Lots of good info, but also overblown promises because it's the new craze. By the way, the Dr that wrote it claims you can email him, so I did-twice-about gaining wieght and asking for advice. Never got a response. Maybe too busy at book signings..... -
For Slow Losers - Excellent Info

I read and followed Ultrametabolism. The recipes are so yummy and healthy, but I gained weight with all those beans! No used to all the carbs! Otherwise, I felt like the book was a nice summary of knowledge about healthy eating. His theme is very similar to Suzanne Somers' new book, and Life Extensions company's supplements. I love Life Extensions.... -
Was at the store, and saw the Country music theme of this week's People. Is that the one?
-
Do you all have meals together? Maybe they are afraid they'll lose you. My dear Mother talks about food all the time...what's in the store, what's in her fridge, what's on Food TV, recipes..... She feels useless if she can't feed everyone in her life...alot!
-
Wow. You look HOT! So what words of wisdom do you have for us newbies?
-
I watched it. Dr. Phil should be embarrassed. It was so contrived, and he was full o' bull.
-
Thanks! I'll get a copy. And thanks Susan for the info on drinking Water with food. That makes sense. I am but a newbie!
-
Aw, my fat family has never been able to be supportive about food issues. We all struggle. I have to just let it go in one ear and out the other, go my own way, and love 'em anyway.
-
Good try, Libra! I wonder if she would respond if we wrote to her website on behalf of us bandsters, er and future bandsters.
-
Let's all just stop responding to this thread...now!
-
the only thing I can add to Telly-Vision is to do the final exercise at least 3 hours before bedtime or for some people (me) it will be harder to get to sleep.

Apropos of nothing: Don't try to teach a pig to sing. It won't work, and it annoys the pig. I have a question. If dringking Water while you eat isn't a good idea because it fills you up too quickly, then why wouldn't that be a good strategy if you hit a plateau and aren't losing weight?
-
That's great. I'm a will power failure. I'm so grateful that this site exists for tips, coaching, support, and sharing.
-
I ain't gonna judge your parenting and I don't want you to judge my fat. We'll just all do the best we can, and if we can help each other, let's do it. I know people who are just as adament that I could lose this weight if I just....(fill in the blank). It's too superficial for me. People have depth and complex reasons who things happen. I'll cheer you on when I think you're doing things that are good for you. I'll help. I won't do sweeping negative generalizations. I don't have more answers than I have questions in life, although that would be a relief...and maybe boring.

We all have free will, at any age. Children that are brought up well are still not in their parents' sight all the time and as youngsters, are still developing and can be tempted. Parents have a big responsibility and should step up to it. And even then, things can happen. I just don't see the world as such a black and white place. It stifles my ability to engage in critical thinking. If everyting is only right or wrong with no gray areas, then I get the chance to be perfect! And I'm not. I'm human, hoping someday to be in a perfect
