    November Bandsters!

My doctor didn't require pre-op testing of any kind, or a pre-op diet. He put me on liquids for 24-48 hours and then on to mushies. I feel like I've really had it easy! I hope I'm not missing something that it would have been good for me to do. I specifically asked him about a pre-op diet, and he said it's too hard to stick with one, and he can't figure how people who are major eaters can accomplish it.

    The downside of being banded.

That's a great idea! Donating back to the Thrift Store! Not having all those sizes in your closet! I'm going to do that! Ebay's a good idea too. I buy all my DKNY flat shoes on ebay. Hope they'll still fit, but the most I've ever paid for them is $19. Also big clothes sell well on ebay...another way to get rid of stuff. Hey I thinI just had my first punishment. I thought I ate slowly, chewed alot, and had the right portion, but I see somewhere between nauseous and drooling. It's minor, but I think it was a warning.

    November Bandsters!

Hi everybody! I was banded on Monday. I have Lupus, and my doctor was nice enough to arrange for a bandster who has Lupus to come talk with me and husband in pre-op. Nice touch! Here's what I experienced immediately after.... I was groggy and nauseous after the surgery and anaesthetic. I had slip on shoes with me, and a pillow. At home, I slept most of the afternoon, and then felt clear headed. I was NOT inteerested in eating, but had a no sugar added popsicle and some Imagine boxed broccoli soup. I couldn't lie down, so I slept in a recliner. I didn't need the gas-x (didn't work), the stool softener, the toilet tongs mentioned eslewhere, or the dressing changes. I've had bad trapped gas and pain, and I do deep breathing exercises and lots of walking-both of those seem to help. I can't bend in certain ways comfortably due to the incision, but otherwise, I'm peachy keen. Not accomplishing much in life at the moment but am really just taking the time to learn....crushed pills go down best with applesauce....getting enough protein is a challenge but I want to not lose my hair later so I'm sipping on protein drink. My best friends so far are my tiny plates and shot glasses, and my tiny cappuccino spoons. I'm just beginning my new relationship with food and am thinking of it more as medicine...making sure I get the right doses and the right balance, even on mushies. I appreciate this site so much, I felt well prepared.

    The downside of being banded.

I have enough sizes in my closet to get me through anything, but as I lose weight, I know I'll want to celebrate with a few new things. Will probably rely on Walmart for awhile. It's a great problem to have!

    Gas Pains....what a pain!

My Dr. has me on mushies, just 2 days after the surgery. I'm not hungry, but I feel like I could eat by habit alot and not be bothered by anything. It's weird. I was hoping to get an assist from the band!

    Breathing problems post-op

Yep. I have the incentive spirometer. I started at 1000 and have now gotten it up to 1500. Thanks for the explanation about the gas. It makes sense. Gas-x doesn't seem to do anything, and I suppose that's because the gas is dispersed in places the gas-x doesn't go. I'm walking and that seems to help some, but I'm so slow since I can't get a full breath. This morning I started some "deep" yoga breathing. It's interesting-nothing else seems to bother me. Once I get rid of the gas, I should be feeling darn good, except when I bend wrong! I'm on my way.

    Gas Pains....what a pain!

Gas pains are pretty yucky. I haven't felt like throwing up yet, but I also feel like I could eat anything with no restriction. That's scary.
  9. I was banded Monday and was on liquids for just 2 days. Not I'm on mushies. I haven't felt any restriction, but I sure haven't tested it. Are all bands unfilled during surgery?
  10. Wow. Thanks for all the help!

    Gas Pains....what a pain!

My Dr. says to walk a minimum of 30 minutes a day, and that staying out of bed is the best remedy for gas. (I just got banded yesterday...Yea!)

Don't you miss veges and meats? I'm not much of a creamed this or that person.....
  15. Aren't there more childen being brought up in single family homes now than two parent homes. That seems like a meatier issue than gay marriage. Pun not intended.
  16. Seems to me that a big part of the change for me will be in pushing away from the TV and computer, where I usually eat nonstop. I keep trying to envision what my life will be like, and what I will be filling those particular times with..... Anybody have any encouraging thoughts?
  17. HAHAHA. I'm sure there are people on cell phones who would be totally embarrassed if they saw themselves on camcorder.
  18. And people don't realize that they are talking loudly FACING me, so I am sure they are talking to me. Some actually look like I'm being rude by listening. I was in La Madeleine one day, and a woman was at the next table alone, facing me and talking in her phone all during lunch. I went to her table and asked her to sit facing the other way so we couldn't hear her. She looked totally surprised, and complied. She looked like it never occurred to her.
  19. I want freedom from rude cell phone users. Although I have a good one. I was in a store and a teenage girl was flouncing around next to me talking loudly to her firend on the phone. She said "I'm gonna dump him. I'm too God D... F...ing classy for him." I fell out.
  20. What if I want to do something illegal that would enhance the rights of others to keep their money? If I were, say 90 years old, and on lots of meds and in and out of the hospital, and I chose to kill myself to stop using up our Medicare benefits that others might need, should I have the right to do so? (I am not anti-old people. This was from a discussion between old people recently.)
  21. So theoretically I have the freedom to stand toe to toe with you and say I am taking money out of your pocket legally. The fact that I can do that and that you will subsidize my risky behavior means that to have a free society there must be a socialist underpinning. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need...." I'mm OK with that. Just adds to the paradox.

Nearest beach to main airports. Need help please

I agree.. for just me, the keys would get my vote! Or Sanibel.
  23. It depends whose rights you are wanting to emphasize. If siblings marry and have children knowing the risks, and then my insurance premiums go up to cover the cost of their children's medical care, and my property taxes go up to cover the extra care needed in schools, and so on, then the parents have taken money from me, violating my rights. Do I want to legislate against bikers who don't wear helmets, people who smoke, and anyone who eats trans fats? No. But by advocating freedom, I am subsidizing people who have the freedom to do risky things.... Freed om at any cost can mean the freedom to do things that impinge on other people.

Here's a list of Florida airports and the hotels near them. http://www.officialusa.com/travel/airlines/florida-airports.html
  25. The "another sick turn" was about legalizing marriages between people and animals. Read sentence that follows that. Ggive me a break!
