  2. Ok. Lots to think about. I'd vote for 2 meals a month since we're adding in Tai Chi. And I'd vote for 2 Tai Chis a week, but I'm open to whatever you guys are doing. My ideal would be Mon and Wed 5-6 PM Tai Chi, and dinner after Tai Chi 1st and 3rd Monday. But I'm open...... Aand Sat AM OA for whoever wants to go...... Now about that dietitian.... I understand Northeast Hospital has one who does community stuff....but I've also eaten the hospital food, so I'm leary....

    Dr. Spivak's patients .....

Regarding nausea, I had some right after surgery befor I left for home, and they had the antinausea patch on my. It didn't last long... I'd be surprised if Texas used a different anaesthetic than the rest of the country.....

    Dr. Spivak's patients .....

I didn't ahve to do anything...no pre op diet, no testing. Self pay. Certainly speaks to the individuality of this journey.

    Does age matter?

I've talked with a number of people in our age group, and so far the concensus is that we lose more slowly. I suppose it has something to do with metabolism. Other than that, I know of no difference. I'm really glad I had it done. I'm 57.

    Sugar Addiction

I didn't realize I had a sugar addition until I was banded! The artificial sweetener in protein shakes set off binges for me! If I don't have the shakes, I'm pretty OK. Or if I haven't had enough protein for the day, and have a shake at night, I'm OK.
  18. Kathy-Do you want to get together for a cup of coffee or something? I'm a Spivak baby too, and I'd love to cheer you on. I'm in northeast Harris County and can travel. Anybody else? Maybe somewhere on 45 south of downtown Houston? I hope that's not too forward of me, but I sure would have liked to ask a banded person some last minute questions before my surgery. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself.....

    Sugar Addiction

It's so easy to feed the addiction now since sugar goes through the band so easily. In addition, artificial sweeteners do the same thing to me...make my blood sugar go up and make me crave sugar. I find that I'd just like an alcoholic. I can't touch sugar or I binge. I have to cold turkey off of it until the cravings pass. Then sometimes I fall off the wagon and binge. Just like an alcoholic....

    November Bandsters!

Hey, I want to have lunch with some November bandsters! Anybody in Houston want to go have a bite together?

    Newbie here and sad

The nice thing is, once you get banded and get used to it, all those uneducated people out there don't bother you much. They're on their path and you're on yours.

    discouraged

I didn't feel restricted until fill #3, and I watched others losing. All I can tell you is that we are all different and we all go through stages. Your stage is called Bandster Hell. It will get better. For now, just learn as much as you possibley can, and practice it when you are able.

Where are you? Let's see if we can find you a cheering section.....

    Newbie here and sad

wow. Your exact words used to come out of my mouth! And my PCP said all I needed to do was eat smaller meals and I'd be fine. I should say my ex-PCP. I'd suggest you find a lap band Dr and go to their seminar to get information. And congrats on the insurance. I had to self-pay mine. And worth every penny. Find a local lap band support group andf start going there for support. And then slowly begin to educate the uninformed around you. It takes awhile. Change (in you) is as scary for them as it might be for you.
