  1. I was not expecting much pain following surgery because of stories I heard from 2 of my close friends that had already had their surgery. They both only complained of gas pains for about a week. My surgery was on Jan 8, and for the first 2 days, I had more pain than I expected. Getting in and out of bed was very painful, and even shifting position in bed hurt for those first 2 days. I still have some pain at the port area and muscle pulling when I stand up or sit down. It isn't too bad now. But I definitely was not expecting to hurt as much as I did those first 2 days. I did not expect to have the swelling that I had either. My swelling was to the degree that my skin was stretched tight all over my abdomin. I did have a c-section and don't think lap band hurt anywhere as much as the pain of that surgery. Lap band was painful for me, c-section was very painful. I would not want to scare anyone, but I wouldn't want to sugarcoat the recovery process either. Just telling it like it is. Everyone is different, and hopefully your recovery will be a breeze. I know I would have the lap band again in a heartbeat!

    January Bandsters???

Add me to the list! Surgery was January 8, and so far I'm doing pretty good. I'm a little sore still, taking Gas-x and walking as much as possible. Glad to join all of you! Just wanted to add my only pre-op diet was to restrict red meat, pasta and carbs for a week before surgery. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight day of surgery. That's it. Post surgery I haven't had any problems with liquids. Starting the mushies today. Peace and blessings to all.

I was banded yesterday (Jan 8) and have not had any hunger pains at all (yet). I am still on liquids, and after about 4 oz I feel full. I do have some gas pains, and a swollen belly. Although most surgical procedures can have some risks involved, I chose the Lap Band over bypass because the complications appear to be more serious with bypass. The complications with lap band are usually easily resolved, some are relieved by diet change, other with minor surgery (such as a flipped port), and those with slipped band resolved with removeable or replacement. I personally felt that the risks I have from my co-morbidities (high blood pressure, GERD, coronary heat disease) are real higher risks, that can be improved with weight loss using a lap band. I am certainly no expert, but have joined this group to learn more myself.
