Carnation Instant Breakfast?
muddieguryl replied to jamelyn1979's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use it and add protein to it. 1/2 serving of Dutch Chocolate Cake protein from Bariatric Eating. It wasn't available for me until the 3rd week. But enjoyed it! -
Looking for a good tip for the first two weeks post-op
muddieguryl replied to sunnysandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take it slow and listen to your body. No means no more! Stick to your post op orders, they are written based on experience. Best of luck! -
Can you feel your stomach and your band?
muddieguryl replied to hotsexyrunnerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Nurse Bandsters?
muddieguryl replied to rkwilliams1013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing most of these replies had in common was that everybody was afraid of becoming a stereotype. I am a CST and for sure, I always felt like I didn't fit up at the table. Like some of you, I have seen what biscuits can do to a belly, back, bones, feet, and oh the hernias that I have seen in larger patients! The ulcers, the hardend vessels and plaque removals, oh and the bypasses.....Like you, I just didn't want to be one. Knowing all about general surgery, staples and roux en y surgeries (which aren't just done for weight reduction) I was terrified of the risks. Lap Band, while rather new to me is the best choice I have made. No regrets, no depression and no struggles with food. No cravings and little hunger. I feel blessed! Congrats to you who feel the same. I was back at work within 5 business days. My only issue is trying to get in the H20 while being scrubbed most of the day. Any suggestions? -
Post op constipation
muddieguryl replied to gloglo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have one for a week and wasn't constipated. Just a liquid diet day before surgery along with a bowel prep and clear liquids afterwards...there wasn't any substance to form stool! Once I started eating mushie....I started making poo! -

Swimming, taking a bath?
muddieguryl replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post op instructions were not to swim or take a bath for 6 weeks. Blah! My incision has closed nicely since July 21. Not quite sure about why the wait for the bathing but the swimming is because the cut through my abdominal muscles. They need time to heal. Oh, and the stitches....they absorb with in 2-4 weeks, depending on what kind they used sub-cuticular. -
Sure do microwave eggs and egg beaters. I put mine in a mugg with a squirt of milk, pepper and zap for 40 seconds, take out, stir, and zap again. Quick and easy. If you are worried about the salmonella...don't be. Salmonella is found on the egg shell, not inside the egg. So, if you wash up after cracking you should have no problems.

woo hoo 1st NSV
muddieguryl replied to azarellanos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait to start a regiment of exercise. My band was installed on 7/21 and I was told no exercise for 6 weeks. I have been doing dancing from Just Dance, the Wii game but nothing hard core. Doc will be pissed if I bust my stitches which should all be just about absorbed by now. -
Enjoy the Versed! Best wishes! Mine was last week and I haven't thought once that it wasn't worth it. Hugs!
-
Karma! I am with you too! I had my band installed on 7/21. I was sooo thirsty at one point and I started drinking small sips...then the nausea came, then I vomited. Won't do that again! I have made ice cubes from crystal light.....and the sugar free pops have held me up. Jello too since I can savor it before I swallow. Good luck!

Yes, we had the same date! I was thinking of you on surgery day and hoping your recovery is going smoothly. Hugs!

How much support is your spouse giving you?
muddieguryl replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with poster above. While he will support you because it is what you want to do, surgery could be scary to him. It is drastic to have surgery to lose weight (not saying I don't believe in it). If he doesn't understand the procedure, he might be worried but not want to share it with you for fear of looking unsupportive. Remember in the late 90s there was a lot of news on the death rate of gastric bypasses (2.5%, and as high as 5%)....well, when I told my hubby that I was choosing this option, he responded the same way. He just thought all bariatric surgery was the same. Even with approval, he responded the same way. I couldn't get him to perk up. A friend of his had a sister who went though bariatric surgery and struggled to regain health. He choose not to educate himself and just had this horrible picture in his head that I was going to croak on the table. He even asked me for my life insurance information twice! I told him to stuff it, that the procedure was easier than a gall bladder removal and that knew because I work in the OR! He put on a strong face the day of surgery even though I could tell he was frightened. He perked up after surgery (when he saw that I didn't die) and has been supportive since. best of luck! I love my choice! -
Pressure from Others
muddieguryl replied to KimmyTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I am going to say is it isn't up to them what a phenomenal number is, it is up to you. And 40 pounds is a phenomenal number to me! Think of 40 pounds of ground beef, or 160 sticks of butter, or 3-4 clothes sizes........Don't let them tell you what significant is. Your goals are your goals....... Sending hugs and courage! Question""""
muddieguryl replied to dreamsrmadeof?'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 7/21 (last Wed) and I plan on going back to work next Wed, 1 week. While you are still bloated and fully on intra-operative gas, your body is still tired and will want a nap. I did drive 2 days out but had problems checking over my shoulder. Your post op care instructions should tell you that you have to be cleared to return to work. I would also suppose it depends on what kind of work you do. I went to the movies yesterday and almost blew up sitting still for 2 hours. Gas was killer! (not the kind Gax-X helped either) Take care! -
I had my surgery July 22, 2010
muddieguryl replied to craigmorganfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band was installed on 7/21. I was in and out in a flash. Lots of intra-abdominal gas from the surgery which of course got stuck in my shoulder. Most of the gas is gone today, 4 days out. I am able to flip and roll myself in bed, get in and out of bed, sit down and stand up just fine. Not a lot on incision site pain. Still to chicken to put down on my jelly belly and find my port site. I haven't felt hungry yet which is a blessing. I am taking in 75 grams of Protein a day but having a hard time getting in some Water. I was a big, big water drinker before the surgery. I am fortunate to get in 64 ounces a day now. No more clear urine for me! Best wishes to all! -
Are unflavored protein powder truly tasteless?
muddieguryl replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being with band for only 4 days, I can only share you about the Pure. I use the unflavored and right now I am mixing it with juice and drink sticks like Crystal Light. Pure (a BA product) is pretty tasteless, has a small foaming quality and a smell that I cannot put my finger on. Is it replusive? Not right now. Ask me in two weeks when I am coming down from my liquid diet! -
How painful was your surgery on a scale of 1-10
muddieguryl replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me, I had surgery yesterday. I don't feel my incision site or my port site. The trapped gas was a 7 - 8 yesterday and a 5ish today. Deep breathing helps with the exchange. Won't lie, the trapped gas has been pretty bad. If you haven't had the surgery yet, imagine trying to pass intestinal gas....but you can't pass it. It will stick under your ribs and move up into your right shoulder. Sucks but it will be totally worth it when I can wear a size 10 again! -
I couldn't be more excited. Since I work in the OR, I am comfortable with going in. I have been on clean liquids since yesterday and I am starving. Of course, not really starving but it feels like it. Getting ready to get in the shower then head off to the hospital. Eeeekkkkkk! (girly scream) Say a prayer for me today! Muddie

Today is my day!
muddieguryl replied to muddieguryl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am up! So my mom, hubby, cousin and neice arrived at the day surgery desk of the hospital at 5:15 as scheduled however there wasn't anybody to check us in until 5:30. No sweat of of my back. Checked in, gowned and sitting in bed while my pre-op nurse comes in to tell me that my 7:15 surgery is delayed due to an emergency case who spent all night in the SICU and needs immediate attention. No big deal again. They move me to a private room verses a curtain partitioned room. My boss calls me via the pre-op nurse phone just to tell me she is thinking of me. This is sweet because she and I work in a hospital across town and she made some calls to find me! 12ish, the CRNA comes back and tells me it is almost my turn. Whew! I liked her, I really did like her. She came recommended to me and let's face it....I wasn't having just anybody monitor me while I was under anesthesia. That stuff is what scares the crap out of me. Around 12:30 I got some versed and by 1:00 it was lights out for me! I woke up around 2:00 and with terrible nausea and gas pains. Made it home but don't remember the ride. Slept, walked and pee'd until around 8ish. Now I am awake. Still no incision pain, just gas. Deep breathing exercises for me. Now, I just am excited to start getting my old life back. Before the fat, I was thin. Here I come! Thanks for the prayers ladies! -
I wasn't getting any hits on the other board. I need to purchase some more Protein powder and wasn't sure which direction to go in. Which have you tried? I purchased the plain protein isolate which was pretty impressive. No taste, no smell, mixed well with Crystal Light and Water, also mixed well with milk. Also purchased the Dutch chocolate Cake mix. Best mixed in milk, just OK in water. Let me know which you have tried, how you mixed it and was it tasty! Thanks! Surgery is on Wednesday (July 21) and I need to order a few more options.
