Yes!! Double milk saved me right after surgery when shakes were too sweet. I used Fairlife skim milk for even more protein than regular skim milk.

Did I overdo it at the gym?
ardelia replied to xtielynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my 2-week surgical follow-up with my surgeon, he cleared me to go back to the gym and begin lifting weights without restrictions. It was such a relief to go back!!! -
I have trouble with protein shakes being too sweet post-surgery. My savior is now my Nespresso machine!! I put ice in a glass, shake in some cinnamon, brew a decaf espresso (or 2!) into the glass, and then pour the vanilla Premier Protein shake (30 g of protein!!) on top. The coffee really cuts down the sweetness and it is delicious! Of course, you could use whatever flavor you like best, but the vanilla is really nice with the espresso.

What are Bariatric capsules made from?
ardelia replied to Abnormal Angie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Remember, though, that just because something is "natural" doesn't mean it is good for you or that it has been carefully evaluated in well-controlled clinical trials. Cyanide is natural, as is uranium, but you don't want to consume either. There are a zillion drug interactions between pharmaceutical products and "natural" things like grapefruit, Seville oranges, curcumin/turmeric, St. John's wort, black pepper, and so on and so on. Natural is not always better. Please be careful - and read your prescribing information. -
I use ferrous gluconate for my iron supplement, in addition to a bariatric vitamin that contains iron. I have no digestive issues.

I looooooove spicy food, but the texture of cooked peppers is practically vomit-inducing to me. I hate cooked peppers in my food.

Tips & tricks for the pre-op ALL LIQUID DIET!
ardelia replied to Vivis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the minority in that I despise Fairlife shakes. There's a taste in there that I cannot identify and my brain won't let me swallow it. One tip I have is do NOT buy a ton of ANYTHING because you think you'll want it after surgery. I lived on bone broth with cayenne and fresh-squeezed lemon for my pre-op diet (2 weeks). I had several boxes of it left over after the surgery and the mere *thought* of it post-surgery truly made me gag. Luckily for me, my neighbors are big cooks and happily accepted my offer of the bone broth. The protein shake that I've loved for years is made by Click. They're coffee-flavored. I know that they used to have a decaf version, but I can't seem to find it on their site now. You can have it hot or cold, even blended with ice to make a shake. You can mix it with water or milk, but the slight saltiness of coconut water as the liquid is suberb. They offer a 3-pack sampler with free shipping. NO, I have nothing to do with the company - I'm just a fan. -
lapband removed hoping to have bypass
ardelia replied to cindyn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm a LapBand to RYN person!! Am I a success? Well, I'm 4 months out and down 60 pounds, so I think I'm doing okay! RNY just feels "better" to me than the LapBand. I'm frankly shocked that it is still on the market, but that is not the point of this thread. Talk to your doctor and move forward. It is the best decision I've made in a long time. Good luck and good health. -
Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.
ardelia replied to Donna zariya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
After all I had to do to GET the surgery and all that I have to do to make sure that it works for a lifetime, you couldn't pay me to have a drink. I am following my surgeon's instructions to the letter and that means no alcohol. Besides, I'd rather chew the very few calories that I consume. -
Ugh.....my hospital bed was a freaking air mattress. Each time I changed position, the stupid thing would inflate or deflate. Annoying!
-
I feel slighted! I didn't have the fancy blowup compression socks (of any kind) at my hospital. I just got the cheesy socks with treads on the top and bottom...in a sickly yellow color. 😤

Laparoscopic vs. Robotic surgery?
ardelia replied to BariatricMD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon did robotic surgery for my RNY. I was disappointed that I didn't get to "meet" the robot. My surgeon does surgery with and without the robot. As long as the surgeon is comfortable using the robot, then I am fine with it. A simple Google search brings up risks and benefits of robot-assisted surgery and having read these (shorter hospital stay, smaller incisions, less chance of infection, etc.), I can't really see why people would prefer regular laparoscopic surgery. -
This is interesting. ELIQUIS is not indicated for use post-abdominal surgery. LOVENOX is.
-
Same! I had injections of LOVENOX while *in* the hospital overnight, but I did not have to do them after I left the hospital. Weird, eh?

Also, I find that "obese patient" is not right. It is like saying "cancer patient" or "cystic fibrosis patient". We really should be using terms not as adjectives, but as nouns: "a patient with obesity". Obesity (cancer, cystic fibrosis, etc.) is a disease, dammit. This frustrates me to no end. 🤬

I went for my 3-month post-op follow-up exam today. It went well and apparently I am very much on track. Yay, me! 🎉 Interestingly, however, I was informed that I was consuming too much protein. Really? The PA told me to hit 60 to 80 grams daily, but I've been averaging closer to 100 grams. I'll cut out the daily protein shake, reducing my total intake by 30 grams. This just seems odd to me, but I'm going to do whatever they tell me to do.

How soon after surgery did you risk trying raw veggies?
ardelia replied to FutureSylph's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
How funny to read this post because I was wondering the same. I'm a little past 3 months out and today I bought a bad of romaine lettuce. I am not a salad girl, but something compelled me to purchase it. I have not tried it yet, but I probably will tomorrow. -
Well, I hope so. 😊

Lunch idea after gastric bypass
ardelia replied to Jennifer ortiz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I guess I have been paranoid about what I eat after a bad experience with a few items: hard-boiled egg, salmon, chicken breast, and very well-done cauliflower. I'll peel an apple and SLOWLY give it a go tomorrow. Wish me luck!! -
Lunch idea after gastric bypass
ardelia replied to Jennifer ortiz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'd kill for a Granny Smith apple right now, but I think I'm not out far enough from surgery. Maybe if I peel it that would be okay? -
Does getting my eyebrows tattooed count (permanent makeup)? I'm more of a piercing gal than tattoos. I have 30 piercings. I'm nervous about getting my brows done, though. It is coming up in April.

Lapband revision to Gastric bypass/Bariatric surgery exclusion
ardelia replied to hollywrites2u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is simply stupidity. Your insurance won't cover bariatric surgery, but they'll be happy to pay if you have conditions resulting from your obesity like heart attack, diabetes, stroke, etc??? WHAT IS WRONG WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES IN THIS COUNTRY? 😡 I'm sorry you're having to deal with this ridiculousness. I wish you all the best.
