Surgery date in Mexico is 4-15-2010

Just had my surgery 3/25/10 in Monterrey Mexico. I wasn't "fat" enough for a US surgeon to band me, so I went to someone who would. Are you going with a companion? I would recommend that. I went along and my novice Spanish didn't serve me well when I was coming out of anesthesia. Definitely do your deep breathing post op. It's not easy but I found that the more I walked, the better I felt. Seriously. The surgeon did a great job. I don't regret it. I have already emailed back and forth about 5 times and I've only been home 2 days. I was back to work today - 4 days postop as a nurse for 12 hrs on a busy floor. You'll be fine!

    A VERY big problem...HELP

I'm 4 days postop and can't burp. Do the yoga position "downward facing dog" and it will help the gas come out your other end. And wiggle side to side to help it out. I know it's not lady-like at all, but it's so painful otherwise! If you can, sleep on your left side, it helps the gas get out easier. I'm a nurse and when we have to give enemas, we make patients lay on their left side - helps things come out easier. Good luck!

    Post-Op Heartburn/Acid Reflux?

I have never had acid reflux before. Apparently when my surgeon went in, he found a hiatal hernia and repaired it. Now I have very bad heart burn (not so much burning, but pain like knives). If I drink anything more than a 1/2 cup of water or fluid. I'm still on clear liquids and can't wait to drink milk to counteract this. I'm thinking about taking Tums. It's awful!
