  1. Last night I went to the gym, and I was meeting a friend to take a "salsa" class. I didn't know how much the salsa would really work me and I wanted to make sure I burned some calories, so I jumped on the treadmill for 30 min at a high steep. I burned like 180 calories before the salsa class. I was not expecting the salsa class to be such a workout, OMG. That lady worked my butt off! I was sweaten and my face was beat red! Today I'm wondering "why is my outer thighs/butt so sore?" It finally hit me, the Salsa class. She had me working muscles in my butt that I didn't know I had - LOL. I think I will be doing the salsa class again, it was such a fun workout! Plus, I learned a few new dance moves! So far, I've excercised 2 x's this week, but plan on exercising tonight, Saturday and Sunday - which will put me at my 5x's. My weight loss seems to be going slow, I bounce back from 201 to 204, a little discouraging, but not totally. I also think its because TOM is about to visit. Once he is gone, I think I should be able to drop again. I seem to be holding Water. I think I will focus on upping my water! Everyone, have a great weekend - and remember, Exercise those bootys!

    Out of Surgery

I had horrible gas pains from my gall bladder surgery, they had to dope me up with morphine, but nothing worked as good as walking. Even if its just up & down your hall, she needs to walk. She won't feel like it but that is the only thing to get your body to absorb the gas, when she starts walking, she'll start (passing the gas, and burping) feeling better, promise. It can take up to 4 weeks or longer to get rid of it all, so the more she walks, the better. PS - What a sweet carring boyfriend you are!

Breakfast - Tea, a handfull of almonds - about 7 Lunch - Went out to eat with an old friend - thai b-b-que, had 2 tiny spring rolls, 2 pieces of grilled shrimp, bite or 2 of rice, and 1 roasted chicken thigh (ate way too much, a little nauscious - Oh, by the way, my friend said I looked wonderful!) Dinner - Went out with friends about 7 hours after my lunch, was not hungry, but ate one of my daughters chicken strip (they were breaded - but only ate one) I was full. Exercise - treadmill 50 min - 381 calories, 2.60 distance, 3.5% incline, speed varried from 3.1 to 3.3. Notes - Feeling really bloated today, feet a bit swollen, I think its getting close to TOM. Due around the 18th I think, but I'm so irregular, you never know when it will come and visit.

    January Bandsters???

Congrats on another 2.5 pounds lost forever. It takes a pound to make 10 lbs, so every pound counts! Also, did you weigh after your Margaritas? I find that when I drink, I tend to hold water a bit more, therefor, making me weigh more, so you might up your water to flush out the water retention. Yum, Margaritas! We are going on a cruise in August, and I can't wait to have a Margarita at Jimmy Bufetts Margarittaville in Jamaica!

    January Bandsters???

I eat baked fish with salsa poured over it, I buy the boneless, breadless, chicken tenders that are preflavored hot wing style and grill them on my little george forman grill, I love them. I also eat a lot of sf yogurt (has 9 grms of protein in it). Lots of salads, dressing on the side. No rice, pasta, bread - but occasionally I slip and have a cookie (sweats my weakness - working on it everyday and getting better and better). I'm going to cook a roast Sunday in my crock pot, let it cook all day. I love roast - I love steak too, but haven't tried to eat steak since my band - but will give it try at some point.

    January Bandsters???

Amen - it is a long process, I lost a lot in the beginning, and now, going sloooooow. But, I'm in it for the long haul, so I plan on it taking me a good year or longer to get to my goal weight! Congratulations on the jeans fitting - awesome!:clap2:

    January Bandsters???

The treadmill is very good exercise, but you have to remember the first priority is your health, so if the docs say you can't do aerobics, then you stick with the treadmill - so sorry to hear about all your troubles. I hope they can get you back & running soon! Well, bummer about your fill, but you just have to take it one day at a time, try and make healthy choices, have a great time on your vacation!

    St Louis, Missouri/UHC

I have united Health care, choice plus. They required BMI of 40. My doctor submitted my paperwork for insurance approval around the end of November 2006, I was approved 12/7/06, I think within 2 weeks. Everything has been great with them.

    January Bandsters???

I love mine - I bought it from Avon. It shows every ounce you lose, even if its only 1 ounce.
  14. I'm trying to get my hubby to exercise with me too! After he has all of his heart test and the doc okays him, I think he'll be ready for an exercise program. I ate too much yesterday, Or should I say, I ate the wrong things yesterday so I made myself do an extra time on the treadmill last night.

    1 egg = 14 grm of fat!!!!!!

its the egg yolk that is full of fat - try some egg whites or I buy the egg beaters or pure egg whites in the carton and make omletts.

    I cheated myself!!!

Its very well can happen! Especially if you are following liquids. I lost approximately 20 lbs in 3 weeks. But - I stalled from 4 to 6 weeks, then started losing again, so be prepared for some stalls - but enjoy your ride - it sure is a fun one! I'm almost 2 months banding and down 46 pounds!

    Advantages of bypass

My WLS surgery list these advantages over Lap-band - Quicker weight loss absorbs few calories (also can be a disadvantage) Dumping syndrome (this is also a disadvantage, but most bypass patients like this fact) There were a few more listed in my book from my doctor, however, I can't remember all of them. I considered Gastric Bypass too, but DH was so against it, and then I found out about Lap-band and figured this was my answer after much research. I'm so happy I chose lap band

Being banded IS the easy way out!

That is the reason I chose not to share my story with people. I just didn't have the strength to argue my reasons in getting the band. Its not easy, although, I find it easier for me to stick to healthy eating. The head hunger is a daily battle for me, however, it is getting easier to deal with. The thing I like about the band vs diets is the growling belly pains is gone. I eat a little and they disappear. So, I don't feel I took the easy way out, I feel I took the smart, well educated, time to change, get healthy, way out.
  19. I've used my card a couple of times - my doctor has a list of restraunts in our area that take the card. But one of them I tried to use it at told me they no longer accepted it. My in-laws do not know that I have the Lap-band, so on Friday nights we go out to eat with them, I am not able to use it since it would create a scene. I usually just split a meal with my DH and tell everyone that since my "hernia repair" surgery, I havent been able to eat much. Obesity Help has a list of restraunts that accept the card - but they also say that some of them are individually owned and may not. I think it would be best to call ahead and explain it to them, ask to speak to the manger. http://www.obesityhelp.com/magazine/RestaurantCard.html

    Unexplained restriction? possibly caffeine?

And to go along with that, if your are going to the bathroom a lot, restriction will also be tighter if your a little on the dehydrated side. But, It could be that you are late bloomer!

Breakfast - 1 container of SF Yogurt with granola mixed in Lunch - 2 chips & salsa, a taco salad (just ate the grilled chicken off of it) and a small portion of quacamole (we went out for lunch to Mexican) Dinner - 5 little mini sugar free brownies - the new girl scout ones, 1/2 cup of salad, 1/2 cup of popcorn - I know (where is the protein?) Had a bad problem tonight with just putting stuff in my mouth - see notes Exercise - Treadmill (PM) 50 min, 359 calories, 2.48 miles, speed varied 3.1 to 3.2 mph. Notes - Didn't weigh this morning:clap2: - I was glad I had enough will power to stay off the scales - I dont ever want to see 200 AGAIN, so I'm waiting until I know I'm down to the 190's before stepping on my scale. Hopefully by Monday I will feel skinny enough to step on them. Okay - I noticed tonight I was eating every time I turned around, was I hungry NO. I figured out tonight that I must work on this "grazing". I need to not eat just because its "dinner time", but wait until I'm actually hungry I think. I'm not sure why I was eating, I think it was out of boredome, or just the need to put something in my mouth. I will be making a conscious effort to not graze and not just put JUNK in my mouth.

  23. Gigi - You go girl! You are rockin & rollin! Nicknack - don't let me stats scare you, they include my preop diet as well. I think I lost about 10 - 15 pounds before my surgery. I was down 20 before my surgery, but then, you know the last supper syndrome kinda hit me and I was eating a lot! So I gained some weight back. But I don't just count my day of surgery weight - I figure I weighed 248 the day I went to the doc and he submitted my insurance, thats where I started at - even though I didn't have surgery for 6 weeks after that. My weight yo-yod back and forth - I don't want anyone to feel bad that I've lost more than them - Your doing really good - to me, any loss is a loss and should be congratulation - ESPECIALLY 25 or more pounds you've lost! I'll gather some information on the BFL and email it to you.
  24. Nope, the program is free - the only thing you might want to buy is the Body for Life book, but you really don't have to. Who knows, we could be the next winners of the $40K, lol. Actually I think they lowered the prize to $20K, but heck, I'll take it! I read thru the rules and there is nothing about WLS or being disqualified for having WLS. let me know if you want more info and I'll send you some stuff.
