I started Low Carbing it the second I got of the scales at the doctor office during my 1st consultation. I figured, the more I lose before surgery, the less I'll have to lose after surgery.(I've already lost 19 lbs since 11/22) My doctor wants me to follow a Low carb diet 3 weeks before suregery, then total liquids 48 hours before surgery. My surgery will not be until 1/18. Every doc is different, but you should follow YOUR docs advice. Just remember that this is for the surgery and it is only a short time. Next year you won't even be thinking about the liquid phase, you'll be thinking, "Wow, look how good I look":wow2:

That is great! I too got approved yesterday!!! I'm with United Healthcare and my paperwork was submitted somewhere betwwon 11/22 and 12/1, and it they have already approved me. I'll be a January Bandster too!

Based on that, your BMI is 44. You would qualify for surgery, now you just need to find out if your insurance will pay for it. Call them and ask if they cover it. Then seek out some information thru local seminars in your area. Good-Luck.

Call Aetna, and ask them if they cover CPT 43770. Most insurance requires a 40 BMI, your BMI can be figured here: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ It depends on your height and weight. Some insurances will cover you if your BMI is 35 or above and you have some existing problems, diabetes, High blood pressure, etc.

Depends on which insurance you have, and if your employer has written an exclusion for WLS in it. I would call your insurance and ask them if they cover Lap-Band surgery, and if there is an exclusion. I have United Health Care, no exclusion was written and I found out yesterday I was approved. They required a 40 BMI and mine was 41.2.

Hi Patti, go see another doctor. You should be able to get the surgery if you have a BMI of 39 with diabetes. These are not the only doctors. Go out to obesityhelp.com and find another doctor in your area. Don't give up, you deserve this. This doctor was obviously not the right doctor for you.

Lauren, this is your time to decide if the surgeon is right for you. Take a list of questions to ask him. Your hiring him, let it be your interview! There is some great questions on this forum to ask the surgeon, I believe its under the pre-0p sight and I think Penne is the one that started it. You just want to make sure that you feel comfortable with the surgeon and that you both have the same goals and that he is supportive of the Lap-Band. Many are pro RNY and not Lap-band. Good-Luck!

Okay, Dave Ramsey has a book out called the Total Money makeover. He always lsays ive now like no other, so you can live like no other later. His moto is out of debt and have financial freedom. I bought his book off Ebay and have been following his rules. No credit card usage at all, Its hard to explain in one paragraph, but he has helped MANY get debt free in a short time. i bought his book for $5.00 off Ebay and it was the best $5.00 I have every spent. He has saved me $100's so far.

First of all, you need to attend a seminar. go to Obesity help.com and find a doctor in your area, attend several seminar by several different doctors and choose one you feel most comfortable with. This is the very first step. Then read all you can, make a list of questions to ask the doctor. i.e. does he do the fills with or without flouro, how long does it take to get into him to get a fill, etc. I went to my first seminar on 11/11, I went to a support meeting the doctor offered on 11/13, he was there too. Then I had my first appointment to see the doctor on 11/22, I just found out today 12/11 that my insurance approved me for surgery. I plan on having my surgery 1/18/07 because I want to wait until Jan. to have my surgery. This is a very big step for anyone, and you need to research everything. Most insurances will cover the surgery if your BMI is 40 or above. however, some employers have an exclusion where you cannot have WLS. So check with your insurance company and ask if they cover lap band surgery and if there is an exclusion. I felt the same as you, that this was my last chance. However, you need to remember that the Lap-Band is a tool to aide you in the weightloss, it will not do it for you. You have to make correct food choices. I hope I helped to answer some of your questions.

All these statments make confirm to me that I'm still not telling anyone yet about my surgery. I've mentioned it in the past to people, and they all say, Oh, I know so & so who had that done and now they regret it (they all think its the same as RNY.) Anyhow, I don't want to be watched like a hawk and don't want to hear everyones negative comments, so I'm not telling anyone at work or my friends. My DH and my mother are the only ones who will know about it. Geeze people are just so rude sometimes.

I received a call today from my case worker at the doctor office and she said that she was notified by UHC that I was approved. She told me she would hand my file off to Linda who would be calling me to set up a surgery date. Now, I'm just waiting on that call. I am trying to schedule the surgery for January 18th and return back to work on February 14th, this will give almost 4 weeks off of work! I should be able to eat regular foods by then. No one from work knows I am having the surgery, they just think I'm taking off for a hernia repair (which I am doint that too). I'm so excited, I want to tell someone, but I can't since no one knows, so I'm yelling it in my journal. Yay!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I went to my seminar on 11/11, I met with the doctor on 11/22 and the case worker told me that day they would begin filing my insurance and since it was right in the middle of the holiday time, they probably wouldn't get my letter out until the 1st of December. She also told me United Health Care insurance takes about 30 days. Well, today I received a call from my insurance with the news that I was approved. So it took just around 2 weeks from the time they submitted me for approval. They are going to call me back to schedule my surgery date, however, I don't want to do the surgery until January due to finances will be available in January. So when they call me back, I'm shooting for January 18th. I think things are moving really fast for me and just as I had hoped.

I'm in the same boat you are. I'm not telling anyone either, mainly for the same reasons you stated. I'm sure my friends & family will just think its another attempt to lose weight and think of all my past attempts. I did however come clean with my husband. But I wasn't completely honest with him either. I know, shame on me. I told him I was getting a hernia repair (which I am) and at the same time they are going to place a lap band to Help me with my reflux. Although not exactly the whole truth, they are actually doing a lap band on me and fixing my hernia while they are in there. Anyhow, I haven't been banded yet and got my approval today, I suspect I will have my surgery In january, I am waiting for the docs office to call me so we can set up a date. I wish you well!

United Healthcare Approved Me!

Sheila, I just got my call a few minutes ago from my doc, UHC approved me too! It seems to be moving really fast for me. I had my seminar on the 11/11, went to a support meeting on 11/13(required from my doc), and went to my first appointment with the doctor on 11/22. Due to the Holidays and horrible weather, they didn't even submit my paperwork to be approved until around the 1st of December, and they just got notification I was approved!!!!!!! I feel the same way as you, I'm totally excited, but really nervous and scared at the same time. But I think I'm more excited now than nervous!

My nickname has always been Sunshine, my dad called me that all my life. Mom used to sing you are my sunshine to me all the time. And the 2 comes from another site I treid to register for (lowcarbfriends) awhile back and there was already a register user by the name of sunshine, so I typed a 1 next to it, and it said the same thing, so I typed a 2 next to it, and it took it. So, in order not to confuse my blonde self, I use sunshine2 for everything when I register for something. My real name is Tonya, I live in Oklahoma, and I know all about the OU Sooners, however, I'm an OSU Cowboy fan .
