GOOD MORNING everyone. I feel like a kid the night before Christmas. I'm anxiously awaiting my gift tomorrow! I'm really busy at work wrapping up some lose ends, so that is helping me get thru the day. I've got a splitting heachache but besides that, I'm doing great! I'm ready for the surgery tomorrow and ready to be an official Janaury Bandster! I thought I would remind everyone who is having surgery today - Enterprise01 – <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:date Year="2007" Day="17" Month="1">1/17/07</st1:date> Revolution – <st1:date Year="2007" Day="17" Month="1">1/17/07</st1:date> Prissever – <st1:date Year="2007" Day="17" Month="1">1/17/07</st1:date> <st1:date Year="2007" Day="17" Month="1"></st1:date> <st1:date Year="2007" Day="17" Month="1">Good-luck - I know you guys will do great! Tomorrow is my Day! My Band Birthday!
tonya66 commented on tonya66's blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
Tomorrow is my day! I'm so excited, I'm nervous a bit, and I'm anxious. I'm anxious to get it over with! I will have to be at the hospital at 11:00 am, my surgery time is not until 1:00. The only thing I am worried about is my low profile port. I hope they ordered it! -
Oh bummer! Well, again, the most important thing is getting better! You would not want the band and be sick at the same time, it would not be good. Even though your not having surgery today, we'll keep you in our thoughts & prayers for a speedy recovery from the horrible gastritis you have. Are you recovering? Doing better?

Hello, I was in the same boat. I work for a very large National Long Distance Company. I am always at work, I sometimes work on weekends. I am private about my health and I didn't want to tell my boss, my friends or anyone about my surgery. Well, it turns out I have a hiatal hernia, so I just told them I was taking off to have a hernia repair. They are repairing my hernia at the same time they put the band in (48 more hours to go :clap2: ). The hernia saved me from lying or having to tell them more. If I had not had the hernia, I was going to tell them I need off because I have some stomach issues and leave it at that. If they asked more questions, I was just going to say politely but firmly I didn't want to discuss it. I don't want to be the office gossip so I chose not to tell anyone here at work, Maybe down the line I will tell, but for now I'm keeping it private. I wish you the best!

I received a call from the sleep study center and they have my 2nd sleep study test results back. They said the doctor is recommending 12cc's of air/oxygen per night and the national average is 8-10 cc's, so I'm just slightly above average. Marjon9 - what does this mean exactly? I know your having surgery today, so when you get back and feel up to it, maybe you could explain this. Anyhow, I'm headed to pick my cpap machine up and they will show me how to work the thing, and clean it etc. She said I should heal faster with the machine. Today, Pinky12202 (Linda) – ,Marjon9 – Sula (Shawn) – Reesh - Not sure if Reesh is having surgery, she mentioned that the doc was putting off because of some blood work test??? Reesh, how are you? Lets keep our bandsters in our thoughts today. I know you guys will do fine, we can't wait to hear from you!

Update on Sleep Study Test
tonya66 commented on tonya66's blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
I received a call from the sleep center and it turns out the doc is recommending 12 cc of oxygen/air for me everynight. She said the average is 8 - 10 cc so I'm slightly above average. Not sure what that means?? They will call me back later today to get me set up to come pick up my cpap machine and show me how to clean it etc. They want me to have it before my surgery. She stated that I would heal faster with the machine. -

I wanted to clarify my comments about me taking 2 or 3 weeks off work, the only reason I'm taking off that long is because I can. I might come back at 2 weeks, but my company pays 100% of your pay up to 16 weeks off of work. And I figure, if I got it, might as well enjoy some time off! Plus, this will give a chance to be off liquids and be on mushies before returning to work. I know my friend was back to work in 5 days. So I think a week would be okay to take off. I'm just taking a little longer so I can enjoy my time off

I can't believe I only have 2 more days until banding! 48 hours to go! This liquid stuff is about to kill me. I'm always hungry and I want to eat damn it! I am ready for surgery so I won't be hungry any more. My DH made fried catfish last night (he makes the best in the whole world!). Gosh, I went into the kitchn and there set a huge plate of it, so I ended up taking a piece. Yes, I cheated - AGAIN. I've got to stick to liquids today, no cheating!:help:

My experience with the sleep study center
tonya66 posted a blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
Thursday night I headed back to the sleep study center for the test with my Cpap machine. I started off with a full face mask, I tried really hard to get used to the mask. But finally after much tossing and turning, I could not handle it and rung the bell for my tech. I told them I just couldn't do it. I felt like someone was trying to suffocate me, then I started feeling like I couldn't breath, and then I felt like the mask was making my face sweat (which it wasn't) They then brought me in a mask that was much smaller and didn't cover my entire face, it fit right underneath my nose. Ahhhh, so much better. It was hard getting used to the air blowing up my nose, but I decided that I would do it. It is suppose to help you lose weight too, so I'm all about that! The night started off good, there was just a light air blowing from the machine. At some point in the night, I woke up to go the bathroom. I noticed the air coming out of the machine was much stronger than it was earlier, I ran for the tech to help me "untangle" the wires that were plastered all over my body and head. I came back and went right back to sleep. It turns out, they kept adjusting the machine thru the night to give me just the right amount of oxygen to make my sleep apnea disappear with the machine. The tech came in at around 5:15ish to wake me up, they unhooked me and told me the results would be in either Monday (today) or Tuesday and they would schedule me to come back again to pick up the machine. I noticed as I was driving home that this was the first time I woke up without a headache. Anyhow, I went home and crawled back in bed for a few more hours. When I woke up again at around 8:30ish, my headache was back. I'm interested to get my machine and sleep with it and see if it cures my headaches or is just my imagination? The benefits of having a cpap machine if you have sleep study are, I should feel a lot better sleeping with one, I won't feel as tired as I usually do in the mornings, and it should help me with my headaches. Also, the doc said that the oxygen will help speed up my matabolism and should help with weight loss - I LOVE THAT. I am really going to try and stick with the machine and see what happens. Also, my DH will love the fact that I won't keep him up snoring! Although I'm worried the sound of the machine might bother him, but we'll see. In about a year, I will have to do another sleep study and if I lose weight, I should be cured from the sleep apnea. Well, thats my experience with the sleep study test......... -
I know what you mean, I come back from the weekends, and there is TEN pages to read. But all the post are so good and encouraging, I spend an hour every morning at work reading them. LOL I feel the same way! I feel the band is that extra power that I need to succeed! Amy - Congratulations! I know you must be so thrilled! That truly is a victory! I personally cannot wait to get to 189. I've been trying for years to get under 190. Seems I can get to 190, but never break the 190's then before I know it, I get discouraged then back up to 230lbs again. Its a vicious cycle!

My last meal was Saturday night at La Mansion restaurant. I was extremely hungry and looking forward to a good Mexican meal. My dinner started off with a basket full of warm chips with extra salt sprinkled on them, and a bowel of salsa. I order a cup of smoked white queso to go with my basket of chips. I studied the menu really long and hard, decided exactly what I wanted. I decided to go with the Enchilada supreme dinner. It came with 4 enchiladas, a beef, chicken, bean and cheese. I asked for a shrimp instead of the bean and paid the difference. I also got a quacomole salad with my dinner. Normally, when I eat a large mexican dinner like this, I have leftovers - but not Saturday night. I ate every bit of it and was practically licking the plate for any drippings left behind. I came home stuffed clear up to my neck, and ended up eating an oreo cookie. I was so full but totally satisfied. I felt like I truly enjoyed my "last supper".:hungry:

THANKS! Wow, just look how many January Bandsters we have now. The list keeps growing and growing!

Yes, we are using the exact same surgeon. He is pro gastric bypass and has been doing them for years, however, he has done over 1000 lab bands as well. So he does both surgeries. I am not that impressed with his bedside manner, however, I am impressed with his knowledge and his reputation. My mother will be able to help me out, and I have my husband as well. My kids just think that I am having a hernia repair (which I am getting my hiatal hernia repaired at the same time). I didn't want to tell my kids about the surgery because I didn't want them to feel they had to lie or not be honest with other members of the family. I felt it was unfair to tell them something and then tell them not to tell anyone.

I am in the same boat as you, so far here is who I have told, my husband, my mother, and my best friend, that is it. My mother because she is going to be with me, my best friend (who is also my cousin), because she just went thru the Gastric Bypass. I have not told my kids either. You sound like you have a great surgeon, so that is reasurring. Look at all the people who have been bandid this month alone and how great they are all doing. Yes, there is a little pain that comes with it, but it is short, so have faith and you will be okay. I know how you feel, because I am freaking a little, however, I know it will be okay. Its only natural to feel a little freaky the closer we get to surgery! Hang in there!

I tried to google it and find any information on this, but could not. I do know there is a medical alert card you can get, but I haven't seen the bracelet. Please let us know if you find one and how to get it.

Jen - I just emailed you the master list so it would make it easier to update the list. Let me know if you did not get it. I hope everyone is doing great, - IntheBreeze13, how are you doing now? I have a feeling I might have to spend the night in the hospital but not sure. So sorry you had a lot of pain, are you doing better? Texasbighair - I love your name. Everytime I go to my hairdresser, I always tell him, I want the Texas big hair! He laughs everytime I tell him that, I tell him, I'm not joking, I love big hair! LOL I'm on day 2 of my liquids, and today seems to be going a little better. I'm running to the bathroom every 30 minutes, but not too hungry today, so that is better. I'm so ready for my surgery, I'm just ready to get it over with! Audree - thanks for sharing the info on erosion, that is one of my biggest fears! Okay, I've got to get work now, busy week for me since I will be taking off for a few weeks, I have a lot of work to catch up on. Talk to everyone later.
